Disqualified Traitor

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich posted on social media today that pop star Billie Eilish can’t run for president because she’s under 35. The Constitution says so. Arnold Schwarzenegger can’t run for president because he was born in Austria. The Constitution says so. And Donald Trump can’t run for president because he engaged in and supported an insurrection. The Constitution says so.

The Constitution makes it very clear that Donald Trump is unqualified to run for president because he engaged in an insurrection. Yesterday, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that he can’t be on the state’s primary ballot. But he may remain on the ballot depending on what the U.S. Supreme Court does, especially considering it’s not just a court with a conservative majority, but one with three justices who were nominated by Trump. In a bit of irony and hypocrisy, one of the justices is married to a person who helped Trump engage in an insurrection.

Clarence Thomas is unqualified to rule on this case but he will anyway.

Republicans love to say they’re “strict constitutionalists,” except when they’re not. Most have only read half a sentence in the Second Amendment. For those who haven’t dived deeper, let’s point out the part that disqualifies Trump.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states:

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

I’ll dumb it down for you. If you previously took an oath to defend the Constitution then engaged in a war against your country, you’re unqualified for any office. When Donald Trump was inaugurated in 2017, he took an oath to “protect and defend” the Constitution of the United States. It’s on film. He did that. On January 6, 2021, he instigated an insurrection and then assisted the insurrection by failing to call in the military and even tweeted helpful information to the terrorists about Mike Pence being disloyal, and then they all started chanting, “Hang Mike Pence.” According to witnesses, he sat on his orange ass all day drinking Diet Coke while watching the attack on TV. Witnesses say he was very giddy about it.

There are two arguments that this rule in the Constitution doesn’t apply to him. One is that he was not an “officer” of the United States. This is a stupid argument. How do you argue that the president is not an officer of the United States or that it’s OK for a president to engage in an insurrection? The section doesn’t specify “president” but the legislators who wrote it in 1868 greatly underestimated the stupidity of future generations.

The other argument is that Donald Trump didn’t engage in insurrection which is a bunch of flaming stinky bull hockey. The riot on January 6, 2021, was to prevent Congress from implementing a duty mandated by the…wait for…United States Constitution, which Donald Trump advocated for terminating months ago.

The 14th Amendment was added in 1868 after the Civil War. The part about insurrectionists not being able to hold any office was added after someone thought it’d be a really bad idea to allow someone like Jefferson Davis to run for president. And by the way, if engaging in an insurrection against the United States disqualifies you from holding office, then it should probably also disqualify you from having schools, streets, and military bases named after you as well as no statues erected to honor your legacy.

Former New Jersey Governor and current GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie argued against this saying, “I think he should be prevented from being president of the United States by the voters of this country. … And I don’t believe it’s good for our country if he’s precluded from the ballot by a court.” Except Trump was NOT prevented by a court. He was disqualified by the Constitution. Again, you guys are constitutionalists except when it comes to reading the damn thing.

One statement from the Trump campaign called this political interference to help President Biden and argued it was preventing the majority of Americans from voting for Trump, neglecting to mention that the majority of voters rejected Trump in 2016 and 2020 and will most likely reject him again in 2024 because we’re not all a bunch yeehaw fuckers.

Donald Trump is disqualified for the presidency. He’s not just unqualified for Colorado’s ballot, he’s unqualified for the other 49 states’ ballots too, and toss in Washington, D.C., and the territories.

Don’t take my word for it, take it from the United States Constitution.

  1. For those of us who think that the SCOTUS is gonna overturn this, we must consider the likelihood that SCOTUS is beginning to realize that, since they are one of the Co-Equal “Checks and Balances” Branches of Government to Dictator Bonespurs, they will be First Against The Wall on Dictator Day Two. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  2. “I will defend the Constitution, so long as, the Constitution is, in favor of me, and, once it isn’t, I’m, totally, opposed to it,” this should be, the, sworn and, official statement of Trump, in testifying toward the insurrection of 2021. All Trump cares about, is what benefits him, he can’t even, run his own business well enough, and the people believe that he can, run a, country???

  3. I believe the phrase is strict constructionist. It’s more than a distinction without a difference. They are believers in the philosophy that the documents should be interpreted as though it were still 1787, that it is holy writ – except when it isn’t.

Of course, Jefferson believed that is should be entirely re-examined every couple of decades as we learned more.

Today, the sun stands still. Enjoy the solstice holiday.
