Disqualified Voters

The 14th Amendment states that anyone who engaged in an insurrection after swearing to protect the Constitution is disqualified from holding future office. So far, two states have read this correctly and have removed Donald Trump from their ballots because he engaged in an insurrection. The Republicans howling response to this is that Colorado and Maine are taking the decision to send Trump back to the White House away from voters.

No, Trump took that decision away from voters when he engaged in an insurrection. Donald Trump swore to protect the Constitution and instead, he violated it.

Donald Trump argues that it was his job as “president” to steal the 2020 election. No, his job as president was to protect and defend the Constitution, not piss on it.

The rights of voters are not being violated by removing a traitor from ballots, but Republicans are failing to recognize their own hypocrisy with this argument.

Just a few weeks ago, the majority of House Republicans voted for an impeachment inquiry into President Biden despite there not being any evidence of a crime. They’re trying to impeach the guy only on the basis that they don’t like him and they still have a stick up their collective ass over him winning the 2020 election. Marjorie Taylor Greene entered Articles of Impeachment on President Biden’s first day in office.

After Donald Trump fairly lost the 2020 election, Republicans in at least 34 states rushed to enact new laws making it harder for people of color to vote. They based this on lies about massive voter fraud in the 2020 election. They also used the generic claim of “voting irregularities.” The fact is, more people voted for Joe Biden than voted for Donald Trump. More people voted for Hillary Clinton than for Donald Trump. Republicans have only won the popular vote once in a presidential election since 1988. Instead of trying to appeal to the majority of voters, Republicans would rather make it more difficult for people to vote who disagree with them.

Donald Trump lost over 60 court cases trying to overturn the election and no massive voter fraud was discovered.

And after the election in 2020, instead of standing up for voting rights, Republicans helped Donald Trump violate them. Donald Trump attempted to violate the rights of 81 million voters. He specifically focused on violating the rights of voters in Black and Latino communities. Many of the Trump campaign’s legal challenges and voter fraud allegations in the aftermath of the 2020 election centered on invalidating votes in cities and counties with large Black and Latino populations, such as Detroit, Philadelphia, and Georgia’s Fulton County.

In Georgia, the Republican majority legislature focused on changing voting laws that would affect Fulton County the most while Texas Republicans focused on Harris County. Guess what those two counties have in common.

Donald Trump spread lies about voter fraud with the help of his minions. Trump tried to install fake electors. He called Georgia’s Secretary of State and demanded he find him 11,780 votes which was the number of votes he was trailing behind Joe Biden. This was the same as demanding that 11,780 votes be taken away.

Today, he’s shitting on Truth Social about Biden bringing in millions of immigrants across the southern border just so he can register them to vote.

And on January 6, 2021, 147 Republicans voted against certifying the 2020 election. On the day of the insurrection, 147 Republicans supported the white nationalist terrorists attacking the Capitol and voted to violate the civil rights of over 81 million Americans. If you’re a Republican, don’t talk to me about voting rights.

If Republicans had their way, there wouldn’t be fair elections. If the GOP had its way, only white people would be allowed to vote. If the GOP had its way, red states and gerrymandered Republican congressional districts would have more voting power than districts that vote Democratic (I have heard this argument). In 2021, they tried to throw out the election and install Trump as an unelected Oompa-Loompa dictator.

When Trump “won” the 2016 election with help from Russia, Republicans didn’t want to investigate Russian interference. Instead, they investigated the people investigating election interference. Republicans don’t care how they win, just so long as they win. If Republicans were a football team, they’d be the Patriots playing with deflated balls.

Donald Trump has promised to be a dictator for his first day after being returned to the White House. He’s also promised to weaponize the Justice Department against his enemies, much like Vladimir Putin does in Russia where there are no voting rights. Will Trump jail every challenger or will he just ban elections altogether? Trump has argued that he deserves three terms, but stop there?

When Republicans howl, “Let the voters decide,” they only mean white voters.
