You Could Do Worse

Republicans have nominated Louisiana representative Steve Scalise to become the next Speaker of the House.

Scalise is a typical Republican in today’s world. He condemned the attack on the Capitol while refusing to admit Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. He condemned Liz Cheney and helped oust her from GOP leadership for voting to impeach Trump. He voted against establishing a national commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the Capitol despite calling it an act of terrorism. And like today’s Republicans, Scalise is a coward who is afraid of Donald Trump’s wrath.

Scalise supported Trump’s ban on Muslims entering the nation. He opposes a national healthcare system. Scalise has received an A+ rating from the NRA for opposing any type of gun legislation despite being a victim of a shooting himself. He gets an F for opposing equality for LGBTQ people. He believes Climate Change is a hoax.

Steve Scalise is a liar. He lies about scientists predicting “global cooling” in the 1970s. He spread a doctored video in 2020 making it appear that Joe Biden supported defunding police, which isn’t true. Scalise’s spokesgoon defended the manipulated video as “common practice.” It is common practice for Republicans to lie.

In 2002, Scalise spoke at the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, a white supremacist group founded by former Grand Wizard David Duke. After it was made public that Scalise spoke to the white nationalist group, he played dumb. Scalise said he wasn’t aware that he was speaking to white supremacists even though he’s from the same area as David Duke and is familiar enough with him to once tell a reporter that he’s “David Duke without the baggage.”

I too am from Louisiana but you don’t have to be to know who David Duke is. But, it’s difficult to believe that you didn’t know you were talking to David Duke’s hate group when you’re from Louisiana. Even with his plastic surgery, you know you’re talking to David Duke.

Politicians don’t accidentally speak to the wrong groups. You don’t see Donald Trump accidentally speaking to an anti-rape group. You don’t see Ted Cruz accidentally speaking to a gun control organization or one opposed to licking Donald Trump’s ball sack. You don’t see Mike Pence accidentally attending a Village People concert. You don’t see Stephen Miller accidentally speaking to a pro-immigration organization. You don’t see Marjorie Taylor Greene accidentally speaking to a science club. You don’t see Matt Gaetz accidentally speaking to a group against sending money through Venmo to underage girls for sex. You don’t see Lauren Boebert speaking to a group against grandmas giving handjobs in theaters. So call me jaded, but it’s hard to believe that you’re not aware of who you’re talking to when you’re in a room full of Klansmen.

So this lying racist David Duke wannabe without the baggage will probably eventually become the next Speaker of the House…after he makes the kind of deals Kevin McCarthy made that guaranteed him to become the worst Speaker in history and ultimately sealed his doom. Is Scalise as stupid as McCarthy to make those deals? Yes. If Scalise wants to be Speaker bad enough, he will give Matt Gaetz the power to remove him from the position the next time Gaetz feels he needs media time.

But at the very least, the next Speaker will not be Jim Gym Jordan. Thank the lord up in Heaven because even a lying gaslighting racist David Duke wannabe like Steve Scalise is better than that lying sack of crap Jim Gym Jordan.
