Birthday In The Hoosegow

I deserve a cookie. Why? Not just because it’s Father’s Day and I’m a father, but because of how hard I worked yesterday after the Sloop John B train ride from Hell, also known as Florida. And, after I had worked late on Friday night after getting in town from that train ride.

I drew this cartoon yesterday, which was a Saturday and when most cartoonists aren’t drawing cartoons and instead are watching Netflix, eating ribs, and thanking their lucky stars that they’re not me. So I drew this cartoon and then realized, I think I did this already, or at least something similar. Did I? So I googled myself which is the easiest way to research my own work despite all the files being on my computer, and I had done something similar. Drats.

In a cartoon from last October, I had Trump deliver a cake to Bannon in prison, and there were files in the cake. So I put this cartoon aside and told Alexa to remind me to draw it in a year. I figured that’d be enough time to pass between cartoons and it’d still be relevant. Hell, maybe Trump will actually be in prison in a year. Then I showed this cartoon to proofreader Laura along with the Bannon one and she said they’re not that similar and I should go ahead and publish this one now. So I took her advice. My only concern is that when Alexa reminds me in a year, I’m not going to know what she’s talking about. Hell, that happens now. Once when I told her to remind me to upload a cartoon to GoComics, she told me to “upload to goats.” I don’t even own a goat less enough goats plural.

Anyway, I hope you don’t think I’m too lazy for using the cake idea again or think less of me. Remember, I don’t take days off, not even when I’m on car and tree-hitting trains. Plus, it’s also difficult for me to resist drawing Donald Trump in prison. But, will he go to prison?

Nobody can predict how much time Donald Trump would spend in prison if found guilty. There are 37 charges in Trump’s indictment. The Espionage Act carries a maximum sentence of ten years. The Tampering and concealment charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The Scheme to Conceal and False Statements carries a maximum sentence of five years. These are all guidelines and there are other factors to consider in sentencing, like being a first-time offender, remorse or lack of it, his goading others to commit crimes, and biased Trumper judge, etc, etc.

But the case in Miami isn’t the only one Trump is facing that can give him prison time. He’s still facing potential charges in Georgia over election tampering and for his actions in the January 6 insurrection attempt. Trump is going to be charged in those cases and will face different juries and judges.

I’m cynical and won’t believe Trump is going to prison until I see it, but I know that Donald Trump deserves to have the rest of his birthdays in federal prison.
