Cheer Up, Sparkles

I realize the majority of my readers, those who receive emails each time there’s a new blog post (when the WordPress system works) and followers on social media, agree with me. Most of the time, I’m preaching to the choir. Well, there may not be much singing today.

There is one area where a lot of my readers disagree with me and that’s on Bernie. No, it’s not that I don’t like Bernie or support him. In fact, I love Bernie. I would love to see every policy Bernie pushed be passed by Congress.

I don’t believe free college and healthcare for everyone are pipe dreams. I know they’re very realistic. What I don’t think is that they’re possible with the public and lawmakers. At least, not at this time. While I think it can be done financially, I don’t think they can be passed, even if Democrats control both houses of Congress. But you know, maybe one pandemic can put socialism over the top.

Where a lot of my readers disagree with me is on supporting a candidate who is not Bernie. Hey, I get it. I’m more liberal than the majority of the nation yet also realize I can’t get everything I want. And I don’t think I can get what I want by embarrassing you in a shopping center by dropping to the floor and start kicking and screaming.

Where I really piss off Bernie Bros is when I point out they’re a lot like Trump supporters. How so? First off, they participate in online smear campaigns, they lie, and they don’t deal with facts very well.

Yesterday, I watched one Democrat tell a Bernie supporter that if he stays home or refuses to vote for Joe Biden, then he’s helping keep Trump in office. The Bernie Bro replied, “That’s where we have to disagree.”

No. You don’t disagree with facts. If you don’t vote for the Democratic candidate, you’re voting for Trump. End of case. End of story. End of the United States of America. You might as well wear a MAGA shirt and buy some $15 pencils at the Trump store.

Remember when President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court? A lot of lefties weren’t happy. He wasn’t liberal enough. He was male. He was white. Bleagh. Boring. And what they got was Neil Gorsuch. Happy?

Or better yet, remember when you rejected Hillary Clinton so you got Donald Trump?

I am not excited about Biden. In fact, if I was to be a baby about the Democratic primary, then I would have had my first fit over Kamala Harris, my second fit over Elizabeth Warren, my third fit over Bernie, and then my final fit after you reject Joe Biden and keep Donald Trump in office. But trust me on this, you’re going to like Joe Biden’s judicial appointments a lot better than Donald Trump’s.

Grow up. It’s not about one person. When I refer to one person, I’m not talking about Bernie, Biden, or Donald Trump. I’m talking about you. It’s not just about you.

You’re not enthusiastic about Joe Biden? Me neither. I’ll give you something to be enthusiastic about: Getting rid of Donald Trump and listening to him bitch about it for the rest of his life. Listening to every MAGAt bitch about it for the rest of their lives. Can you get enthusiastic about the shit fits to be thrown by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Donald Trump Jr? Can you get enthusiastic about making Matt Gaetz cry?

I don’t care if the Democratic nominee is a chunk of yellow snow someone put their cigarette out in. I’m enthusiastic about getting rid of Donald Trump and every sycophant in his administration. Fox News can’t hire them all.

Vote for Joe Biden. Grit you teeth, hold your nose, and vote for Joe Biden. It’s not just about you, so get over yourself.

Tip Jar:

This pandemic is hitting everyone, including your favorite goofy cartoonist. I have lost clients and I’m afraid I might lose more. The PayPal button has always been included here for those who can and want to voluntarily support what I do. I understand this time is hard on everyone. If you can’t, don’t contribute. Take care of yourself and your family first.

But, all and any help is greatly appreciated and it helps keep me going. Think of me like a street performing busking out tunes on a corner (I won’t play “Wonderwall.” I promise). If you like the tune, or in this case, toon, throw a buck into the tip jar. It’ll help me play another song, draw another toon, write another blog, make another video, and post another snarky post on social media. It’ll help keep me alive. You can also order a signed print for $40. And if you don’t like the PayPal option, you can snail mail it to my P.O. Box.

You can purchase a signed print of this cartoon.

  1. Thank you for this well-written blog, Clay. Politics is a process, it’s not winner-take-all. Compromises are made by each side to move them closer to their goals. We all gthe get frustrated by the progress of reform but Nazi Germany and now the U. S. sees the results when unproven populist leaders with no political experience, whose only goals are to tear down societal norms to meet their perverted goals, get elected.

Unfortunately, regarding this point the facts prove you to be wrong and many people recognize this. In the last election, I voted for who I wanted to be President, which was Bernie. Despite my vote, Hillary Clinton won my state and won the popular vote, but not the election, due to incompetence.

So, my not voting for Hillary against Trump, was not a vote for Trump in any way shape or form.

Circumstance are not always like mine were, but often enough are. I have always been inclined to vote for who I wanted to be president, not who was the “better of two evils.” I have done this seriously for 50 years. As a consequence, Barack Obama was the first president who I voted for who won.

I do not think I can positively vote for Joe Biden, based upon his record and nothing more, and I hope my vote is diluted out by others. That one vote can make a difference in an election is a hoary old bit of propaganda, once you get past local elections it is never true.

    1. The smugness of the voters who “couldn’t vote for the lesser of two evils” and sat out the election or voted third party, reminds of those “good” Germans who claimed that they never voted for the National Socialists but never voted for the Social Democrats either. The results were very similar.

    2. I’ve heard this song and dance before. It is rubbish. Electoral College does choose the President and Vice President…based on the popular vote in each state. You are damn right, local elections matter and so does who you vote for.

    3. Not voting blue put 45’s despotic, grasping, whiny ass in office. 45 road the shit train all the way to the White House and has brought nothing but shame to America. He is a worldwide joke, the worst kind of grifter, and has brought nothing but suffering to thousands of lives. Good job voting your conscience.

  3. I am voting blue, even if it is yellow snow used to douse a cigarette butt. Trump got two trillion dollars stolen from American taxpayers to pocket and distribute to his rich sycophant henchmen. He’ll throw a crumb or two at the public but the majority will end up in off shore accounts ensuring survival of 1% scum. That amount of money deeply entrenches a thief and buys lots of favors. I am sharpening my pitch fork and keeping it ready as I am sure I will need it. I am pretty much done with trump bullshit and politicking as usual. Coronavirus gave trump the money of America to hoard and hold onto power.

    1. true democracy was gone a long time ago. Each passing day we lose a few more liberties we have taken for granted. Between climate change, over population, novel viruses, and a few more thieves in power like trump Nothing in America will resemble anything close to democracy.

TELL ME, MY FRIEND, to WHOM do we report ELECTORAL FRAUD when the very people responsible to prevent electoral fraud are the people who are actually COMMITTING electoral fraud.

And mainstream media, whose multi-billionaire owners BENEFIT from the fraud, turn a blind eye and refuse to report it?

Because frankly, I grow weary of fighting the battle alone.

Are ALL of the media outlets corrupt and complicit?

Are ALL branches of government corrupt by now?

CAN BERNIE RESTART HIS CAMPAIGN? Technically, YES he would be able to “restart” his campaign because Federal law and the parties do not consider him as having left the race.

BUT… are we required to accept the corruption and vote for the corporate choice? The one who did NOT win?

Are we not willing pawns, accomplices to corruption if we do so?

And is THAT what you insist we do?

    1. Bernie was outvoted. Not even (non-Democrat, btw,) has called the results nor the process fraudulent. The primaries sifted out the field… personally, I’m sorry Warren & Harris were de-selected, but I’m not going to suck my thumb & cry about it. i advise you to get over it & learn a little pragmatism. The country cannot afford to have the GOP pick the next 2 or 3 SCOTUS seats, just for an example.
Does the primary system stink? Yes, but that is the system currently on offer, and Bernie LOST. It sucks, but that’s how the game is played, so what will you do? Take your ball & go home? If Trump is reelected, blame no one but the person on your mirror.

      1. Well said Mike W. Warren was as daring as Bernie, I’ll miss her more than all the others, she is still a strong presence in DC. A woman that would be a fantastic addition to any President’s cabinet.

  5. I’ll vote for Joe. He wasn’t my first pick (probably more like my fifth), but I can accept him. I know he can win the swing states; he’s not an exciting candidate, but to borrow a TV Trope, Joe is the “Boring but Practical” guy. I’ll take a practical liberal candidate over an extreme right one.

Or to put it another way as I explained it to some friends–Bernie was the pepperoni lovers pizza you really wanted while Joe is the plain cheese pizza. Trump is a crap sandwich. I’ll take a plain cheese over the sandwich any day.

  6. Reblogged this on Scotties Toy Box and commented:
Hello claytoonz. This needs to be said clearly and often. We must vote blue no matter who from the top to the bottom of the ballot. The destruction to the country from the current White House and the Senate is increasing all the time. It must be stopped. Hugs

    1. Absolutely Scottie! Wouldn’t a Biden-Beto(O’Rourke) ticket stir up the DNC and make 45 mess his pants. Look at all the trouble 45’s gone through to discredit Biden. I’m surprised 45 didn’t go to Russia himself…but then he is afraid of his balls being frozen off in more ways than one in that country.

  7. The choice between Biden and Ki45*TF is like the Red Pill and the Blue Pill in The Matrix, except the colors are reversed.
Biden is like the Red Pill that frees Neo from the Matrix, and Ki45*TF is like the Blue Pill that would keep him as an unknowing slave in the Matrix.
There is no color of pill for Bernie, because Bernie is NOT a Valid Choice IF you truly want your children, grandchildren, and their descendants, and the United States, to have a Healthy, Successful, and Free Future.
