Clarence’s Disclosure

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas hid from the public lavish gifts he received from billionaire Harlan Crow, gifts such as expensive vacations in Bali with his insurrectionist wife, Ginni, and trips to Crow’s exclusive secret swanky I-smell-better-than-you men’s club.

Clarence also hid Harlan purchasing his mother’s home, paying for his nephew’s education, and another gifter’s no-interest loan to purchase a motor home so Clarence could park in Walmart parking lots and see how the Rubes live.

The trips were taken in 2019 but Clarence is just now remembering to disclose them. I took several trips last year and maybe when I think of all of them together, I might forget the one to Tennessee or the one to Indiana but I don’t think I’d forget a lavish yacht vacation in Bali or to a club that’s a total sausage fest. Clarence didn’t disclose everything as he left out the flights.

The court is unregulated. It’s the only one of the three branches of the federal government where a member can take bribes, do it publicly, and get away with it. Even the other eight justices can’t stop a Thomas or an Alito from accepting “gifts” or force them to recuse when they’re sleeping with insurrectionists. Since these are lifetime appointments, justices don’t have to face the public.

Right now, public approval of SCOTUS is at 37 percent. I know what you’re thinking. Why so high? But no matter how low it could get, SCOTUS doesn’t have to worry about it. Sure, President Biden, Donald Trump, and every member of Congress have to worry about polls, but not SCOTUS.

SCOTUS doesn’t get it. In an appeal to the public and maybe to shut people up, SCOTUS created new regulations for themselves…and that’s what they don’t get. Forget for a moment that the new regulations don’t do anything, SCOTUS doesn’t realize that they’re not the ones who should be creating the rules for how they’re regulated. This would be like Bob Menendez writing rules on how many gold bars a Senator can accept from a foreign nation, George Santos setting limits on stealing babies or how many Italian shoes he can buy with campaign funds, or Donald Trump creating the rules on grifting, stealing classified documents, stealing elections, inciting insurrections, or sexually assaulting women.

The court needs to be reformed, and I’m not talking about adding more members. There should be rules for members of the court not to take bribes and call them gifts…or remain on the court after taking bribes.

We need members on the court who are ethical and not corrupt liars. While we’re at it, how about members who don’t support insurrections, make rulings based on their fundamental zealotry, or desire to trade our democracy for a religious theocracy? How about a court that doesn’t hold up criminal trials so Donald Trump can win an election?

Since Thomas has now reported every gift we already know about, what else is under his robe? And I’m not asking his penis.

Update: I didn’t know if this cartoon would work when I thought of the idea yesterday morning. But I went ahead with it anyway and it got decent reactions on Facebook and Instagram, and blew up on Twitter/X, at least by my low expectations. On Twitter/X, it got 163 reposts and 430 likes. Today, it was published by The Week and The Washington Post. I think it works.

  1. Is there a law that says the Court must be paid their salaries? If not, demand that they not be paid, or get their golden retirement funds. They will quit soon enough.
And has anyone investigated Kavanaugh’s bank accounts. He seems slimier than all the others put together.

  2. I thought the pube went with a Pepsi. It’s been a while, but I paid attention – even then – to the Judiciary Committee hearings. Anyway, an excellent cartoon.

Listening to Garbage, a great band.

  3. Pub hair coke can is not the only one we should be worried about – have you heard the latest with insurrection-supporting Alito and his god-faring wife? Yes, Alito blames the media for the supreme court’s problems (WT*???) and his wife thinks the Supreme Court “should be guiding” America on a path as a “Christian nation.”- again WT***? The founding fathers were very very very firm on separation of church and state – what has become of the supreme court if the wife a of justice thinks god is more important than the law and Pride month celebration is wrong?

    1. When the story of Alito’s second flag broke, I misinterpreted it as judicial arrogance, i.e. that he was sneering at hoy poloi because his is the court of last resort. Appeal to heaven, my ass.

  4. The cartoon reminds me of the Ghost of Christmas Present in the Alaistar Sim version of A Christmas Carol (1951) the one my generation grew up on, B&W).

    1. I had that same thought, dsyohalem. Bar none, the 1951 version is my favorite, and Alastair Sim my favorite Scrooge. It’s one of our must-see movies every December.
