Roughs, Volume 229

I drew so many roughs last week that I decided it’d be best to split them into two blogs, mostly so I don’t create one long video. I hate those. These were not all drawn on the same day.

I was almost done drawing this (before the coloring) when I decided to do something else. This. This was drawn on April 24.

This was drawn on April 22 and I wasn’t sure how to do it. The first version has MTG styled as Natasha Fatale.

This second version has her as Moscow Marge, but then I decided to combine this version with the Natasha one, and it became this.

This was drawn on April 23 and it turned into this. I think it could have turned out better artwise. There were a few other versions in my head that never made it onto digital paper.

This was drawn on April 24 for the Fredericksburg Advance. My editor told me he loved it and to go ahead and color it so we could get it out. I told him this was just the rough and I needed to start over. See?

Pulling up the links made me notice that I drew four other cartoons last week with people raising their arms. Here, here, here, and here.

This was drawn on April 26. My editor at CNN asked for something on Trump/SCOTUS immunity. This one was a little bogged down….right? But, it’s basically what Alito argued.

The rest of these were also drawn on April 26.

CNN didn’t take this one but I liked it enough to give to my clients.

This is the one CNN chose. Check it out. There will be a few more on this issue in the second half of this batch which I’ll publish on Friday.

Which of these are your favorites?

  1. I am having difficulty choosing my favorite. It’s like asking me

who my favorite band is. I like so many that are great so I

usually just continue listening to them all!

That being said, I’ll go with the alito “outgoing” sketch as my choice…

  2. Natasha Fatale might have been my first love. Then there was Agent 99 on Get Smart. When I was a teen, I fell for Greta Garbo in Ninotchka. Is there a pattern?

  3. So many good ones here! I really like the last one that CNN chose. Also, I like the one above it that they didn’t choose – about being more loyal than David Pecker!
