Hanging the Constitution

While I was covering Donald Trump’s THIRD arraignment last week in Washington, I said to the non-Trumper standing next to me, “Sometimes they say the quiet parts out loud.” What one of the Trumpers said during their protest against Trump’s indictment was, “Trump for king.” And another thing to really despise about MAGAts is that they’re making me defend Mike Pence.

Last week, former vice president (sic) Mike Pence said something basic, non-partisan, that everyone in this nation should agree with, whether they’re Democratic, Republican, left, right, Pro-Biden, or MAGAt. Mike Pence said after Trump’s THIRD indictment came down, “Anyone who puts himself over the constitution should never be president of the United States. For this, MAGAts came down hard.

While campaigning in New Hampshire last week, Trumpers screamed at him, calling him a “sellout” and a “traitor.” One Trumper howled, “Why didn’t you uphold the Constitution.” Pence fired back, “I upheld the Constitution. Read it.”

Mike Pence was a MAGAt himself and long enough to know that MAGAts don’t read and the ones that can read can’t comprehend.

MAGAt cartoonist Branco depicted Pence as toast in a toaster with “primary voters” labeled on the sleeve of the hand pushing the lever down. Branco, who’s usually a lying frothing-at-the-mouth crapbag with his head up Trump’s ass is right for once. GOP voters will make you toast for putting the Constitution above Trump, or at least saying that’s where it should be.

Other Republicans and Trump cultists warned and threatened Pence that they “would not forget” his comment that no one should put himself over the Constitution.

Donald Trump put pressure on Mike Pence to throw out the Constitution, reject certifying the Electoral College, and overturn the 2020 election. Pence is right in that he didn’t have the authority to do that. It’s strange he actually had the decency and spine to stand up to Trump this way. But since he didn’t have the spine to testify before the House select committee investigating January 6, let’s hope he has it testify in the criminal trial of Trump trying to steal the election.

Trumpers like to evoke freedom, America, democracy, and the Constitution when they promote Trump and go after their enemies, but they don’t really care about any of that.

It’s like when they say these indictments are election interference after they tried to steal an election. It’s like when they say President Biden is going after his political opponents when that’s what Trump promised to do as a candidate in 2016, tried to do as president (sic), and again is promising to do as a candidate today. He “truthed” a few days ago that he’s “coming after” anyone who goes after him.

Trumpers don’t want Trump to be president as much as they actually want him to be king. The white nationalist insurrection on January 6 attempted to make him an unelected dictator. Anyone who supported and defends the insurrectionists are against free and fair elections. MAGAts don’t want to elect Trump. They want to install him. And Trump has made several comments about his next administration destroying democracy.

In fact, Donald Trump has already called for suspending the Constitution. Trump likes to say we’re not going to have a country anymore if people don’t put him back in the White House. But we’re not going to have democracy anymore if we put him back in the White House.

The first time Mike Pence opposed Trump over stealing the election, MAGAts chanted, “Hang Mike Pence.” They even brought a noose. Where is that in the Constitution?

I don’t defend Mike Pence as much as I want to defend the Constitution, and if they’re willing to hang Mike Pence, how far will they go in regard to the Constitution?
