Frickin Greg Abbott

Greg Abbot’s Texas government has started putting what it calls “floating marine barriers” in the Rio Grande River on the Texas/Mexico border in order to stop “illegal immigrants” from entering the country.

Again, can we dismiss the term “illegal” to describe human beings? How are they “illegal” before they even get here? It’s racist and hateful to refer to refugees fleeing harsh conditions as illegal. According to our law, everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and entering the nation “illegally” isn’t even a felony. We never referred to Jeffrey Dahmer as an “illegal,” and that fucker ate people.

But anyway, what Governor Greg Abbott is doing shows contempt for people of a different race as he’s put little thought into the danger it poses, or worse yet, he has thought about it and doesn’t care if it kills people.

It can be extremely dangerous to cross the river even without obstructions in it, and four migrants drowned earlier this month while attempting to swim across the Rio Grande.

Mexico claims the barrier violates a water treaty and it may encroach on Mexican territory. Mexico’s foreign ministry said in a statement that the floating barrier violates a 1944 International Water Treaty and a 1970 Boundary Treaty, which states that both countries “shall prohibit the construction of works in its territory which… may cause deflection or obstruction of the normal flow of the river or of its flood flows”.

Additionally, a small businessman who gives kayak tours of the Rio Grande is suing Abbott for the bouys and razor-wire fencing that Texas has installed on the river banks as part of a multibillion-dollar hate project called Operation Lone Star.

Jessie Fuentes, the owner of Epi’s Canoe and Kayak said, “They took away something that doesn’t belong to them.” A pecan farm on the border says the buoys, razor wire, and constant movement of troops from the Texas National Guard and state Department of Public Safety (sic) is affecting their business.

One state trooper reported that a pregnant migrant had a miscarriage while entangled in the razor wire. Wait, I thought Texas was a “pro-life” state. There’s also a report that troopers from DPS were ordered by superiors to push migrants back into the river and to deny them water.

The devices are designed to spin in the water to prevent migrants from climbing aboard them and netting below the surface makes swimming under the barrier virtually impossible. The barriers are 1,000 feet long while the Rio Grande is 1,896 miles long, so this barrier isn’t designed to stop migrants from crossing the entire river but instead, designed to kill them.

Fuentes said, “Everything they are doing, excuse me, fucks up the ecosystem.” Yeah, they’re fucking up more than the ecosystem. It’s going to kill people. If Abbott could figure out how to make it work, he would fill the river with sharks with fricking laser beams attached to their heads.
