Free Hunter

I intended to do a different issue today but the verdict in the Hunter Biden trial didn’t throw me off or take me by surprise like the 34 guilty counts in the Trump trial did last Thursday while I was in the Atlanta airport.

I knew last night that the jury was deliberating so I expected a verdict to come down today. My plan was to do a cartoon on it if it came in early enough. If it came in around 4 p.m. or so, then I would work on my first issue and worry about Hunter’s verdict tomorrow. But I didn’t have an idea on either subject when the verdict came in around 11 a.m, so I plowed forward on the Hunter subject after it was announced. I knew this was the point I wanted to make, and other cartoonists have made it before, but with three guilty verdicts, I knew mine would be a new take.

Can you imagine what the uproar would be like if Donald Trump had reached a plea bargain with a prosecutor but a Biden or Obama-appointed judge wouldn’t allow it, so the Attorney General appoints a Special Counsel, the same one Hunter reached the plea bargain with, who then prosecutes Hunter and then he’s found guilty by a jury in a federal trial? MAGAts would lose their minds…kinda like the way they’re losing them now with false cries and howls of a “weaponized” Department of Justice and the false charges without proof that President Biden is going after his political opponents.

If President Biden has such control over the DOJ to go after his political opponents, then why was Hunter Biden found guilty today in a federal trial?

Also, notice that it was last July when Hunter’s plea deal was struck down and we had a trial and verdict in less than a year, meanwhile, both of Trump’s trials have been delayed as well as the state case in Georgia. This “biased,” “rigged,” and “weaponized” justice system has bent over backwards not to prosecute Trump until AFTER the November election.

And let’s compare the charges. Trump stole classified documents, tried to install fake electors, tried to steal an election, engaged in election tampering and intimidation, and incited an insurrection. Hunter lied on a federal gun form and then turned the gun over. Who wants to predict that Hunter gets a stiffer sentence than Trump?

I don’t really care about Hunter Biden. I care about a fair system. I can change my mind, but I think the jury came to the right verdict with the instructions they were given. However, this case never should have come to trial. They had a deal after five years of this investigation, but a Trump-appointed judge threw it out, and then the Trump-appointed United States Attorney brought it trial. As of last January, DOJ spent nearly $7 million investigating and prosecuting Hunter Biden for lying on a form. I wonder what the cost is now.

This Trump judge, Maryellen Noreika, threw out the deal that saved Hunter from time in prison. I will be shocked and flabbergasted if she doesn’t give Hunter a sentence that includes jail time, even on a non-violent first offense. Judge Noreika had concerns the deal wasn’t constitutional wile the very question that the statute forbidding a drug user from owning a gun is constitutional is in another federal court right now. Questions of constitutionality doesn’t actually seem to be a concern for Judge Noreika.

Also, in case you’re a MAGAt, three is less than 34.
