Ronna News

Full disclosure. If you’re a regular reader of this blog then you already know this, but it needs to be stated anyway with this cartoon and blog. I freelance for CNN. I do not speak for or represent CNN. I’m not even an official contributor, but I am affiliated with them a tad bit.

I was still thinking about other subjects this morning like Apple and Boeing when life presented me with another topic I felt I couldn’t skip over. Journalism is one of the most important things to me. I make a lot of noise over what I perceive are assaults on journalism, so I can’t ignore this.

NBC News has hired Ronna McDaniel. Ronna was the chairperson of the Republican National Committee. In her role as chairperson, she pushed the lie that Trump won the 2020 election. That alone should be disqualifying but it gets worse. She helped Trump try to steal the election. Throughout this process, she attacked the media. She attacked journalists, real journalists…not that Laura Loomer or Fox News shit. She orchestrated a censure of Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney for serving on the January 6 Committee. She characterized the white nationalist terrorist attack on the Capitol as “legitimate political discourse.” She had the RNC help organize fake electors for Trump’s election steal.

Ronna is/was such a cultist, that she was more loyal to Trump than to her family, as she stopped using her maiden name, Romney, at Trump’s request when she became the RNC Chairgoon. She is Mitt Romney’s niece, who, as you probably, Trump hates.

NBC News fucked up.

No news outlet should be an echo chamber. Even though it works to build an audience and become the ratings leader, it changes the outlet from a news channel to a propaganda channel. That is Fox News but even they have a token liberal or two.

Networks like CNN and MSNBC should have Republicans as contributors. Nicole Wallace, who worked in the George W. Bush administration and the John McCain campaign has a show on MSNBC. Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele is a contributor. CNN has Scott Jennings among others. I’ve seen Olivia Troye, who worked on Mike Pence’s staff, on both networks. Trump’s former press secretary Stephanie Grisham often appears on CNN. And then there’s David Urban.

Last night on Laura Coates’ show, David Urban expressed dismay and confusion as to why there should be a controversy over Ronna McDaniel working at NBC News. He just saw it as an opposing voice that should be heard. In the process, he created a new question as to why he’s on a news network.

I believe that to work at a news outlet, even as a contributor or commentator, then one should understand what news is and how it’s different from propaganda.

There should be different viewpoints. There should be counterpoints. But lies are not counterpoints. Conspiracy theories are not counterpoints. Bullshit is not a counterpoint. When a person says, “Trump won,” he’s not expressing an opinion. He’s lying.

When you say, “Donald Trump was a great president,” that’s an opinion, even if it’s a stupid ass uninformed one. But when you say Donald Trump kept his promises and created a great economy, that’s a lie. Lies are not viewpoints.

I understand it’s incredibly hard to find a Trumper who doesn’t lie. In fact, I’ve never heard anyone support Trump without lying. It’s impossible. If a network employs contributors who are Trumpers, then they need to have a fact-checker on the air at the same time to debunk all the lies they will tell. They owe it to their audience. It is negligent to lie to your viewers. Again, Fox News is not news.

Also, it’s not liberals’ fault that facts have a liberal bias.

The real journalists at NBC are not happy with Ronna being on board. During her first segment, she dodged the truth when asked if President Biden won the election, saying he’s the president and not saying if he won. See what she did there? She Glenn Youngkined it.

Chuck Todd, Joy Reid, Nicole Wallace, and Rachel Maddow eviscerated this hiring. Maddow spent 30 minutes on it last night, calling it “inexplicable.” She delivered the news that Rashida Jones, the boss of MSNBC, promised that Ronna will never appear on MSNBC. It should be noted that Rashida Jones did NOT object to the hiring until shit started hitting fans.

Since we’re mentioning names, let me point out who’s at fault for this assault on journalism. It’s NBCUniversal News Group chair Cesar Conde, NBC News president Rebecca Blumenstein, and senior vice president of politics Carrie Budoff Brown.

Ronna McDaniel spent her time at the RNC trying to undermine and destroy the legitimacy of NBC News. By NBC hiring her, she’s finally succeeding.

Update: I was thinking last night that there’s a better chance of Mexico paying for a border wall or for Trump to put his own money into his campaign than there is of Ronna lasting throughout the day at NBC News. Now there are reports that NBC is in deliberations of firing her.

  1. Great commentary, Clay! I’m just appalled that NBC would do this and I’m thrilled that the MSNBC anchors stood up for what was right – even Chuck Todd did the right thing! I’m still amazed at the very stupid decisions that supposedly intelligent people make in full view of the world. They must think that most people are just too stupid to have any thoughts about what they’ve done! MSNBC staff knows better (and knows their own viewers are smarter than the rest of the dumb-asses out there in the general public). Btw, love the sign in the gold fish bowl! And maybe it’s just me, but even the electrical outlet looks shocked by the whole fiasco! :)

    1. Cancelled before she even started, the poor dear.

The right decision, but still, the mgmt. should do some self-examination.

As should Bill Maher on HBO. He invites and in congenial towards people like Nancy Mace (despicable); what’s-his-name (governor of Florida; see how quickly we forget! (Ron de Santis)), the horrible Fox News “analyst” Laura Ingraham, and others of the MAGA ilk, tosses them softballs and lets them fall back on GQP talking points.) I expect Ronna will be on soon, pleading her “case”, which can be foreseen as “I wasn’t given a chance to cash in my experience as head of the RNC because of leftist cancel culture.”

The MAGAts are much better than Dems at staying on message, presenting a unified front.

  2. I bet some people will complain when this cartoon gets published that she’s already gone. Well, it’s still relevant as those responsible for the hiring are still in charge.
