Roughs, Volume 225

Ding-Dong! Roughs are here. We have a small batch this week.

This was drawn last Tuesday, March 26. I was in the process of finishing it when this idea hit me and I went with it instead.

This was also drawn on Tuesday, March 26 and I rejected it.

This was drawn last Friday, March 29, and it didn’t go anywhere.

I really liked this one and made it a real cartoon. I made sure it landed on GoComics on Easter Sunday when all the goons were freaking out about Trans Visibility Day.

And this one became the cartoon for the CNN Opinion newsletter.

Which of these are your favorites?

  1. I grew up in Jackson MISSISSIPPIIIII?!!?!?!?!. Can’t believe you went to Millsaps College!!!,,,,,,

I took a class or two there! But then went down to Tulane and over to the University of Oklahoma.

I just love love love your cartoons >>>> nothing even nobody!!!,,,, even comes close, nothing even comes close!

Should write to a long long letter,,,,

    >>> I read your whole biography on the web it’s incredible incredible incredible >> how much of it I can relate to >> I forgot where you grew up at?

But nothing compares to your cartoons >> I copy them and I’ll be arrested for copyright infringement, and send them to all my friends everywhere everywhere >>> but I give you credit for them clay Jones editorial cartoonist, cartoonist whatever incredible!

James A Preston Vickers,,,, New York City.
Dallas 33 years, now have lived in New York City 24 years.

Grew up in Jackson MS, went to Tulane School of Architecture one year. The University of Oklahoma School of Architecture 2 years. Changed over to Art and Apparel Design last two years at University of Oklahoma.

Not only is this the great cartoons and the great great great style of drawing, but the amount of knowledge knowledge knowledge that you have to keep up with to do those cartoons. I mean it shows in the cartoons >>> if any idiot keeps up with the news!,,,,, And they crazy crazy super political friend of mine, says that most idiots do not keep up with the news, she may be correct?!?!?!?

I never commented on this kind of stuff. Busy and just have too too much to do something must have just hit me today I didn’t know you could even comment on these “Roughs” — Or otherwise!?!?

I hope to get to see this comment, but with 500 billion billion people commenting,,,, posting things on the web, I WON’T HOLD MY BREATH!

    1. Hi Preston, and thank you. I didn’t go to Millsaps College in Jackson, I went to Belhaven, and very briefly. I grew up mostly in Louisiana but was also raised in Georgia and Illinois. My career started in Mississippi. I’m in Virginia now close to Washington, DC.

      1. Well terrific! Messed up on the college yes of course we all know Belhaven College there, and that’s very close to the Eudora Welty house, I think? Maybe her sense of humor, which everyone considered remarkable, rubbed off on Clay Jones!!!!!

Well yes I have relatives all over Louisiana, New Orleans, of course having gone there to Tulane for one year. And of course all over Mississippi. Even quite a few in Texas!

Nonetheless your cartoons are the greatest greatest. But also how you keep up with the insane detail of this political stuff, I don’t know how in hell you have enough time for that at all!

Thanks for your reply and I will keep promoting your cartoons and stuff?!?!

Thanks very much again, James Preston Vickers. New York City.

Maybe you know now, the main library in Jackson, which is the old Sears store when I was a kid, is now named the Eudora Welty Library***!!

Sorry sorry, Trumpy is not getting a library, unless it’s at the bottom of the cesspool where he lives, and his supporters who are the scavengers at the bottom of that cesspool, or even more hopefully maybe but it would be way too better for him, the La Brea Tar pits!?!!?!?!

One analyst said years ago, he’s never never never going to get a library! Would cost too much of an insane fortune,,, plus there’s all sorts of other complications, and who the hell would ever want the frickinggg library???, that person said, but who knows??

Marvel Comics said >> Don’t even think it !!

        >> Kanye already tried that at Skechers… !!

He could be buried right next to Larry Flint Jr, >> and his Comic Books for Dummies, could be in the porno DVD section, in the basement of the Hustler Memorial SeKKK Room !!!

And you know they have a Mississippi Writers Room there***! I really really should nominate Clay Jones!

They must have at least 30, 40 or 50 writers in there!
