George Clooney wrote an essay for The New York Times calling for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race writing that Democrats are “not going to win in November with this president.”

Now this could make Democrats sound like Republicans when it comes to celebrities. Republicans have said celebrities should keep their views to themselves unless they’re Ted Nugent or Chachi. Bruce Springsteen and Robert DeNiro have come under fire for criticizing Donald Trump. Fox News’ Laura Ingraham said NBA players should “shut up and dribble.” Ironically, they claim that MAGAts right to free speech is constantly under attack.

Dave Grohl and Taylor Swift have as much right to publicly spout their political views as Kevin Sorbo and James Woods. Deal with it. Do celebrity endorsements help much? It depends. Taylor Swift created over 35,000 new voters after posting a link to vote.org on her Instagram page. Republicans hate that because they’re more about restricting voter access than they are about registering new voters.

Where celebrities truly help isn’t with their endorsements as much as it’s with thier fundraising. It was at a glitzy Hollywood fundraiser that drew in over $30 million for Joe Biden where George Clooney says the Joe Biden he saw at that event was not “not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. Clooney went on to say Biden “wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

Honestly, the Joe Biden I saw at the debate and after is not the same Joe Biden that debated Trump in 2020.

Clooney came out of that fundraiser asking, “O’ Big Fucking Deal Biden, where art thou?” See what I did there? I’m funny.

One Democratic pollster said of Clooney’s essay, “It’s like the Titanic hit the iceberg. You can get mad at George Clooney for killing the Batman franchise for an entire decade (you sonofa…), but you can’t blame him for destroying the Biden Campaign.

Clooney is not the only celebrity to call for Biden to drop out. Director Rob Reiner posted on social media a few days before Clooney’s essay, “It’s time to stop f‑‑‑ing around. If the Convicted Felon wins, we lose our Democracy.” Meathead is right and he also said, “Joe Biden has effectively served US with honor, decency, and dignity. It’s time for Joe Biden to step down.”

We should listen to Rob Reiner. He gave us The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap. We are running out of time. The Democratic, the Biden Campaign, and the White House told us the campaign would be reset after that debate. Resetting it in September is too late, even if Biden does a great job in the second debate, if there is one (if Trump has a huge lead, he will cancel that debate), it’ll be too late. It’s time to stop fucking around. Green Day sang Wake Me Up When September Ends. If Biden flops again, somebody just knock me the fuck out.

Rob Reiner is letting us know that the word “democracy” doesn’t mean what Republicans think it means (if you don’t get that reference you must leave this blog now).

Michael Douglas said that Clooney has “a valid point.” It seems Biden is not romancing his stone (see what I did there? Yeah? Never mind) and he went on to say, “It’s such a tough one. I adore the guy. Fifty years of public service — a wonderful guy. This just happens to be one of these elections that is just so crucial.” Ant-Man could not have said better.

The co-creator of Lost, Damon Lindelof, said Democrats should withhold their donations until Biden withdraws. Other major fundraisers have been saying the same thing. This brings us to the argument that Biden should be replaced if he’s not going to have the funds to compete with the grifter selling NFTs, fake Bibles, and golden shower sneakers. If Trump wins, democracy may be LOST forever (OK. That one wasn’t as good).

Lindelof compared Biden to a pitcher who needs relief in a column for Deadline, and wrote, “I’m ready to hear the walkout song for our closer and once I do, I’m going to double the size of the checks … I’m going to write so many damn checks my hand will cramp.”

And yes, Trump is not qualified and he should drop out. And while it’s weirder to want to vote for Trump than it is for a billionaire to adopt a teenage boy named Dick and make him wear green tights, the GOP is not going to demand that Trump withdraw.

George Clooney is a major star. He’s on the A-List. He’s also a devoted Democrat. His essay was riskier than his 1997 bat nipples and while it may not sway voters, it brings more attention to Biden’s condition. Clooney also gave the green light to other actors to speak out. Maybe we’ll even hear from the real Batman, Micheal “I’m Batman” Keaton. Don’t you give me that Adam West na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na shit.

Now, will some liberals be angrier at me for saying Biden should drop out or for criticizing Adam West?

Creative note: George Clooney is harder to draw than Batman.

Note: I’m traveling to cover both political conventions, the Republican and the Democratic. The Republicans are up first and I’ll be in Milwaukee next week. If you would like to financially contribute and support this effort, you can donate through PayPal (clayjonz@gmail.com). I’m still trying to think of what I can do to thank contributors and I’m open to suggestions. I should also tell you that my coverage will be from outside the venues as neither party wants me inside their house.

Music note: I listened to Mumford and Sons.

  1. Read today’s NYT about TR. Panic is too often a weak reaction. Over-reaction is a recipe to create fatal weakness. You don’t even have a clue about the next step. What will you step in? SLOW DOWN!
