Dropout Donald

If you’re judging Biden’s performance in his first press conference of 2024 (It’s July, by the way) to his debate performance, then you’re lowering the bar.

This press conference was set up, not because the Biden administration wants to be open with the American people but because they want to reassure the public and Democrats that the president is healthy and fit for the job at 81 amidst calls for him to step down from the ticket. The administration has been cagey and reflective about the president’s health.

Biden was sharp on the issues, especially foreign policy during the press conference, but he still fumbled words and trailed off mid-sentence. The worst parts were when he confused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Vladimir Putin and Vice President Kamala Harris with Donald Trump.

Everyone confuses names for people. That’s normal. During multiple conversations with a colleague last week, we both said the wrong names multiple times, and we’re in our 50s. The thing is, we caught ourselves and made corrections immediately. Biden didn’t.

I believe President Biden should step down. If nothing else, he’ll be keeping his promise of being a transition to the next generation. He’s 81 for God’s sake. He’s been a great president and I’ll vote for him if he’s still on the ticket, but I don’t think he should be on the ticket. I don’t believe he has dementia, I just believe he’s too old. He’s not in the same condition he was in when he beat Donald Trump in 2020.

People are asking why there are demands for Biden to step down but not for Trump. That’s a good question. Donald Trump is a far worse fit for the presidency than President Joe Biden.

Donald Trump proved he can’t handle a crisis. He allowed tens of thousands to die from COVID. He allowed the economy to collapse because of COVID. He ignored it and downplayed it for the sake of his fragile ego. And he didn’t build the economy that he later murdered. Barack Obama built that economy. Trump inherited a great economy and left a failing one and then refused to even stick around for the inauguration because he’s a coward and a baby. He is unqualified.

Donald Trump left office with fewer jobs than when he came into office. He’s the first net-jobs loss president (sic) since Herbert Hoover (who was also a Republican). He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump added $17 billion to our debt. He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump’s only legislative accomplishment was giving himself a tax cut. He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump tried to steal the election he lost. He installed fake electors. He pressured election workers to find him votes. He instigated a coup attempt. He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump terrorized NATO and our allies while cuddling with dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. He’s disqualified.

Donald Trump illegally took money from the military to fund his racist border wall. Funding the government and where the money is distributed is decided by Congress, not one man. Trump is unqualified.

Trump grifted taxpayers and violated the Emoluments Clause. He’s unqualified.

Mexico never did pay for the wall. He’s unqualified.

While Trump says he knows nothing about Project 2025, a playbook by the Heritage Foundation for the next GOP administration to destroy our democracy and replace it with a fascist authoritarian government, over 140 members of the Trump administration (sic) are a part of it. This is his playbook. He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump told over 30,000 lies during his presidency (sic). He’s unqualified.

And, Donald Trump is mentally unqualified. He’s confused names and places. He’s trailed off mid-sentence. He recently ranted about sharks and boat batteries. Donald Trump is unqualified.

Donald Trump is a felon and the worst president (sic) in United States history. He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump’s ego is too fragile for him to be president. He’s shown he puts himself before the nation. He’s unqualified.

Donald Trump hired people who were unqualified to work in a presidential administration, people like Rick Perry, Ben Carson, Omarosa, Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon, and his idiotic daughter and son-in-law, Javanka. He’s unqualified.

Plus, Trump is also old and if he wins or is installed into the White House, he’ll be 83 when his term is over…if it’s ever over.

So why aren’t members of the Republican Party demanding him to step down? Because the Republican Party is a cult. They were fine with him being unqualified after he won his party’s nomination in 2016. Even the Republicans who called for him to step down in 2016 are now up Trump’s ass.

For example, Utah Senator Mike Lee publicly called for Donald Trump to step down as the Republican Party’s nominee in 2016. After the Access Hollywood tape came out, Lee said that if someone spoke to any of his female family members like that “I wouldn’t hire that person.”

Lee said, “I wouldn’t hire that person, wouldn’t want to be associated with that person. I certainly don’t think I would be comfortable hiring that person to be the leader of the free world.” He laid out his ethics and principles and stood with dignity and integrity and…well…

When I saw Trump speak at the Libertarian Convention in Washington last May, he was introduced by…wait for it…Utah Senator Mike Lee, who apparently is now comfortable with hiring someone who would talk to a female member of his family in a sexist way to be the leader of the free world.

The other thing is, we’ve become accustomed to Donald Trump being unqualified to the point that much of the media doesn’t question it anymore. Last week, The New York Times caught a lot of heat for an editorial calling for President Biden to step down as the Democratic Party’s nominee. It was probably the headline that caught the most heat as the editorial also said Trump should step down.

Another reason people aren’t yelling for Trump to step down is because, despite the fact he’s the worst president in history and a felon, he’s leading in the polls.

It’s because this nation has forgotten that Trump is the worst president (sic) in history and a threat to this country that President Biden should step down and allow someone else to lead the ticket, like Vice President Kamala Harris, who has a better chance of beating him.

Note: I’m traveling to cover both political conventions, the Republican and the Democratic. The Republicans are up first and I’ll be in Milwaukee next week. If you would like to financially contribute and support this effort, you can donate through PayPal (clayjonz@gmail.com). I’m still trying to think of what I can do to thank contributors and I’m open to suggestions. I should also tell you that my coverage will be from outside the venues as neither party wants me inside their house.

But, a friend of a friend is allowing me into her house…for free, which will be a huge help financially.

Music note: I listened to Van Halen. No, NOT Van Hagar, Van Halen.

  1. It’s shocking to me (although at my age I shouldn’t be shocked by anything anymore) that the media doesn’t just hammer on these issues about tRump. MSNBC spends some time on it, but not enough. Others may, too, but mostly I watch MSNBC and a little local news that stays middle-of-the-road.

    1. I watch MSNBC as well but not all the time. I do watch Rachel, Alex, and Lawrence. Tonight Alex and Ali Velshi covered quite a bit on the 2025 project. And I gather Ali will cover it more tomorrow on his show. They need to push this long and hard so people get it.

  2. Biden confused the names and immediately corrected it.   Did you miss that in the edited videos.  He made a joke, Zielinski made a joke about it.  The media went 24-7 crazy about the misspeak.  Yesterday I said septic tank instead of sump pump, 3 times in one conversation.  Have to search for a name that isn’t immediately in my mind, after I have said another name.  Everybody does it, even the young kids.Don’t be part of the bash Biden crowd.  As my mother said, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything.”

    1. Tell your mother I’m a political cartoonist. If I wasn’t to say anything, then I wouldn’t be drawing political cartoons.

      Don’t say nice things, please….sheesh.

  3. Biden is no longer at his best. He had a terrible debacle (I mean debate). But he still knows his facts, even if it takes him longer to get them out, still can respond ON TOPIC to the actual question, is honest, empathetic, has a great team that doesn’t require firing and replacing people every other day. Biden got off to a bad stumble to start the debacle, I mean debate, but got better — stamina! — as the ninety minutes wore on.

But what about Trump? Biden’s speech may be slow and he might stumble, but he answered the actual questions and mostly got his facts straight. Trump spoke more forcefully (loudly), but could not answer the actual questions (in response to a question about child care, he went off on an unrelated rant about China and never even mentioned child care), and even off on tangents of his own choosing, COULD NOT STATE A SINGLE FACT CORRECTLY.

So why is the corporate media focusing only on Biden? Yes, he had a terrible night. But he did answer the actual questions asked. He did stay on topic. He was mostly accurate in his factual statements. He got better, not worse, as the debate wore on. He definitely showed that he was no longer the Joe Biden of old, but he did not show someone with dementia or serious mental decline.

Where are the question to CONVICTED FELON TRUMP about HIS debate debacle? Trump could not answer the actual questions. Trump could not get his facts right. Even in his bizarre, off-topic digressions, Trump could not give coherent, factually-accurate statements. Twenty-eight lies in less than forty minutes of mic time. Here is a LINK to a number of Trump speeches in which Trump went way off script in bizarre, incoherent rants about really crazy, bizarre stuff showing a total disconnect from reality.

Biden may speak slower and stumble on a word here or there, but there are no corresponding counterparts to those extended riffs into Wonderland in the Biden record.

I may prefer a young puppy over an old dog, but I will pick the old dog over a RABID dog any day.I will pick Alfred over the Joker any day.
