Roughing It, Volume 35

I drew a ton of roughs last week. By “ton,” I mean over 20. Let’s check them out and see which ones are good, OK, and the suck.

This is the idea I created for CNN Opinion.

And it turned into this. I really enjoyed drawing this scene. I think it worked really with the newsletter.

I thought this was between OK and good.

Another in between.

I liked this one so much, I finished drawing it.

I think it’s safe to say this one is the suck. And, timely…as in out of time now.

I kinda like this one. What was up with that pink tie? Plus, it has snakes.

Not super funny, but I think it’s a good point. Maybe I should go back and draw it.

More snakes. I like the other Pence/snake toon better. I actually love snakes. Republicans, not so much. I always feel a little guilt when I make the comparison. But, it’s worth it if I can express what a religious fundamentalist lunatic that’s Mike Pence.

This might be a good idea. No, not the cartoon. Sticking all of Trump’s supporters on a boat.

This is one that’s just OK.

This cartoon sucks.

This one sucks too. I made a Corona/Tecate joke on Twitter when I first heard of the coronavirus. Now, everyone else is just catching up.

I couldn’t get this one to work.

I really wanted to get Skittles Pox into a cartoon. I did about a week later. I like my Uncle Sam in this rough. I usually don’t like drawing that character.

See? Still not the cartoon I eventually drew with Skittles Pox.

I don’t like this one. This looks like the kind of cartoon that other cartoonists would settle for. ha.

Hee. Hee.

Yeah, not very good.

I wasn’t in love with this one either. I thought CNN might take it but now I’m really glad they didn’t.

I thought this was OK.

I actually like this one. It may be too subtle. I might use the concept in a future cartoon. Here’s some free health advice: Don’t let Donald Trump put his hands on you…or inside you.

I planned to draw this one and I never did. I still may go back to it. I love zombies, especially when they say “BRAINS!!!!”

This was probably my favorite from last week. I really liked it and now I think the window has passed. Maybe not.
