Roughing It, Volume 33

Yay! It’s time to check out a few more rough drawings. I didn’t draw as many last week as usual. I’m OK with that.

This is the rough for the idea CNN selected.

Which turned into this. I have to confess. It wasn’t my idea to throw Rudy in the cartoon but I think it worked out pretty well. It got a lot of comments.

This one turned into a completed cartoon which is was published at GoComics today…and the day after the Nevada caucus so it’s really confused everyone over there. They think I drew it yesterday. I did like the way the Buttigieg caricature turned out.

This cartoon is not very good. But if Bloomberg does become the nominee, I bet someone draws it. Note: I don’t expect Bloomberg to be the nominee.

This one I like, but you’d have to know about Trump’s discrimination on immigrant travel and New York City.

CNNrough585Eh.

CNNrough584

This is true. Not a very funny cartoon though.

Later, I found a much better way of doing this concept.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good flying monkey cartoon? The idea here is that they’re all Rudys. I might come back and do this idea/concept depending on what else plays out. Multiple flying Rudy monkeys are almost too good to let go. Hey, hey, we’re the Monkees!!!

Sometimes, you need a little color to get the idea across in the rough. Drawing stuff like this is one great advantage of drawing digitally.

I want to hear from you. Which of these are your faves? It’s the flying Rudy monkeys, isn’t it?
