Oh, boy…it’s been a minute since the last batch of roughs but I had a week off from the newsletter and I didn’t have to draw many roughs the week before that so…yeah, you had to wait. Let’s get it on.

The software I use to draw my cartoons is Procreate, and it provides the date that each canvas was created, which I just realized after using the program for over the past two years. This rough was drawn on November 27, and then I shelved it for a few weeks until the Fredericksburg Advance came calling for a local cartoon.

I drew this on December 15 for CNN to consider and was asked to hold it for two weeks to be reconsidered. They took it.

This was drawn on December 15 and it was taken by CNN. I bet my syndication clients would have loved to have gotten this one.

This was drawn on December 16 and strongly considered, but I let it go.

This was drawn on December 17 and I let it go too.

I created this on December 17 and changed my mind for something else.

This was drawn on December 19 and I changed my mind for something else again. Sometimes I put a lot of work into my cartoons before I start putting a lot of work into my cartoons.

This was drawn on December 20 and I let it go.

I kinda liked the concept but decided it didn’t really work. This was drawn on December 20.

This was drawn on December 20 and it became a real cartoon.

This was drawn on December 28 for CNN to consider. It didn’t make it.

I drew this on December 15 and was waiting for the end of the month to turn it into a real cartoon…and then my colleague Clay Bennett drew it. I was annoyed with that until Robert Ariail drew the same thing.

This was drawn on December 28 for CNN to consider. After they turned it down, I sent it to both of my proofers and another friend to see which they liked more, this or…

…this. All three chose this. What’s weird is I used “Swiftie” here and “Swifty” in the final version. Proofer Laura told me after I had sent it out that the accepted use was “Swiftie,” and then I got an email from an editor at The Washington Post telling me the same thing. So I changed it.

This was drawn on December 28 but I didn’t give it any strong consideration. I am seeing a lot of people not just expressing anger that Taylor goes to football games, but also blaming her for the team’s losses. I personally think that’s insane.
So, did you miss the roughs and, which of these are your favorites?

I liked the second one about Taylor Swift writing a song about the refs and I liked it when you first published it. I got a good chuckle about it. Happy New Year.

Clay, I have a question. If we go by trump January 6 2021 rules then no matter what the election results show in 2024 Joe Biden doesn’t have to leave office ever. Right? Joe Biden is president forever and Disenfranchisement of the entire republican party and its constituents is in order according to Amendment XXVIII (28) of the US Constitution (Proposed on Trump Insurrection Day Jan. 6th 2021 and ratified January 6th 2024). Happy Insurrection Day.
