SDX Award Plaque

Since I blogged about the RFK bust when it came in, I believe I should give equal treatment to the Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists that arrived yesterday. Besides, I may not ever win one of these ever again, so I’m gonna talk about it now. Also, I want to share it with my readership because you’ve been with me for a while and in some ways, you’re a piece of this too. No. You don’t get to hold it.

When the RFK bust arrived, I didn’t know it for a few hours. It arrived at some point on a very busy Friday and I found it when I was heading out at 10 p.m. to get something to eat. It was waiting outside my door. The SDX also arrived without my being aware of it. I was going to bed and opened my door at midnight just to check to make sure nothing was out there, which is a habit of mine. I wasn’t expecting anything from SPJ for a few more weeks…and there it was. It arrived in a very nice black box which I’m going to keep.

Also, the wrong apartment number was on the box but it still landed at my door. I wonder if that was their mistake or mine. But, I’m glad it arrived at the right place.

I don’t have a place to put it or the RFK bust yet, but I’m working on it.

I always tell people that political cartoonists are journalists. Now, not only do I have two national journalism awards, one of them literally has “journalists” in its name. That gives me a “m’yeah” for when I have to defend us as journalists in the future. I have a journalism award from the Society of Professional Journalists, thank you.

Congrats to Mike Smith of the Las Vegas Sun who also received an SDX this year for his cartoons. Coincidentally, he messaged me today about this subject.

OK. I’ll stop posting about winning contests now.

  1. Mazel Tov! Congratulations Clay! Well deserved. You must show a photo of where these two are when they are displayed in your place. Well pretty please.

  2. Hey, that’s a BFD! Congratulations from the bottom of our country. But Biloxi isn’t really Mississppi, is it?

  4. Congrats, Clay, and keep on fighting the good fight. Your comics and blogs keep pointing out the political idiocy; hopefully your facts will sink into some of those who are clueless.
