Its time to see some roughs from the past week.
When I first drew this last Thursday or Friday, I thought it was OK. Maybe it’s still just OK, but I decided to make an official version of it over last weekend. I’m glad I did it. I was actually expecting someone else to do it. Maybe it’s so obvious, that nobody wanted to draw it. Actually, I don’t think that’s possible.
I drew this last Thursday and I finally drew and published the official version of it last night. I did the shirt guy cartoon first and intentionally waited until the Senate was ready to vote and reject the commission before I drew this cartoon. I think I timed it pretty well. It’s gotten quite a few shares on social media, probably because it’s true.
I drew this one last Friday also and waited until Monday to do the real cartoon version of it. Why did I wait? Because the CNN cartoon was on the same issue and I wanted that one to hit the streets first. This cartoon took off in a really good way. Most of my clients used it and comments were incredible.
This is what we went with for the CNN Opinion newsletter last week. I was so into it, that I colored the rough. It was the second rough I drew with Elvis and an alien.
This was the first, which got me to draw the second version. I thought, I shouldn’t have aliens talking about Elvis. Elvis should be in the cartoon. You can’t do a cartoon about Elvis without Elvis. The spaceship in this version is my favorite from the three.
This was the third version. I think the bamboo thing might be a bit more obscure for most readers. Do you know what I’m talking about? See? I also toyed with creating astrology signs with the stars and spelling out “CNN.” It didn’t work. That thing in the bottom center is supposed to be a crab. I know. Shut up. I really got into drawing these spaceships, Elvis, and the aliens.
This is probably the only rough from last week that didn’t become an official cartoon. If you know anything about DC, you know the MAGAts probably would not enjoy going to Adams Morgan.
OK, what’s your favorite?

It is a well known fact that cicadas love to eat bamboo. 😉

Of the UFO cartoons, I liked the Elvis, Panda and Alien one. I don’t think the bamboo reference is too out there. I had to Google, Adams Morgan. No, they probably wouldn’t like it.
