As a lot of you know, in addition to being a cartoonist I’m also a musician. I’ve played in several bands and have performed solo acoustic shows. The bane for any musician are requests from the audience for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Free Bird. You usually assume they’re joking but sometimes they’re not. According to one reviewer at Amazon, Free Bird is the most requested song in the world. Useless trivia time: The Beatles Yesterday is the most covered song.
I’m a major guitar geek. In this cartoon I gave Rand Paul a Gibson Explorer, the one guitar I’ve always wanted. I gave Ted Cruz a bass similar to the ax bass used by Gene Simmons of Kiss. I told you I’m a geek.
Last week I dedicated a cartoon to all my journalism colleagues. I dedicate this one to all my friends who are musicians. You might be surprised to know a lot of cartoonists are musicians with most being guitar players.
