When I was a Peace Corps volunteer, I purchased a short-wave receiver. I listened to both VoA and Armed Forces Radio, both for news and music (excellent jazz, which was considered “neutral” I suppose. Reception was pretty poor in Honduras and couldn’t receive BBC nor CBC. VoA was far more propagandistic and biased than was AFR. Just sayin’.
VoA was an important news service during the height of the Cold War in the 1950s and prided itself on not being a propaganda arm of US government policy – although it was and is. Musk and DOGE have recently defunded the entirety of Radio Free Europe. It won’t be missed. Or perhaps Musk will reconsider and just turn it into an outlet for RT.
