A little known fact is that President Carter is fully and totally responsible for those 6 americans being rescued during the embassy debacle in 1980. It was because of him the Canadian government gave special permission to issue Canadian passports for them and, without which, they would not have been able to be rescued. I believe it is called an “Order in Council”. President Carter – Not b-grade actor regan (don’t like him in case you haven’t figured) – made a special appeal and the Canadian government heard him and gave special dispensation to help these 6 Americans. Could you imagine today if the convicted felon asked a huge favor like that of the Canadians, they would help? They would probably laugh so hard and long, the becoming a 51st state joke would disappear.
