Roughs, Volume 239

Today’s blog of roughs is being written in the lobby of the CitizenM hotel in Washington, DC. I’ll be writing and submitting ideas to CNN today and some of that will be on a train going home.

This was drawn on Thursday, June 13. Trump went to the Capitol to meet with Republicans with many hoping he’d bring some policy details. He did not do that. Instead, he talked about dating Nancy Pelosi much to the horror of Nancy Pelosi.

Who would you put on that list? I wanna hear your contributions.

This was also drawn on the 13 and I liked it. I almost chose it. This is the one I went with.

I wrote this one after I had published my Trump/Nancy/Boat cartoon. But I liked this so much that I made it a completed cartoon a couple days later. The wing-jerks at GoComics really struggled with it.

This was drawn last Friday, June 14. Some editors are afraid of cartoons where it appears something is going up a butt. I did a similar cartoon in 2017.

I wasn’t sure if I like this cartoon entirely. I liked the concept with the signs but maybe it needs something other than the “AI” part. You may see a different version of this in the future. This was drawn on the 14.

This is the one CNN chose and it did very well on social media, getting lots of likes, loves, comments, shares, and engagements. I love it when that happens, especially with the cartoons that are commissioned. Here’s the completed version. And it was drawn on the 14.

This was drawn on the 14 and turned into this, which I published last Saturday, June 15, on Father’s Day.

I didn’t like this one as I feared it could be misinterpreted as an endorsement of school prayer. Thank god (pun intended) nothing happened this week that put religion into public schools.

I thought this might be a bit too obvious…and I was right.

This and the next two were drawn on Monday, June 17, and these were not submitted to CNN.

I thought this was OK.

The reason I’m in DC is because I wanted to check out a Juneteenth event in the capital. I also used the trip to check out a Nationals game. I didn’t get to see a lot of the Juneteenth events because sitting in the sun all day for the game wore me out, but the Nationals won. I’ll try again next year.

I like the three Juneteenth cartoons here I self-rejected and I still wonder if I made the right call with the cartoon I chose over them. What do you think?

Which of these are your favorites?

  1. I really love these roughs!

They are all very good, but I laughed out loud at the 1st 2 tRump – Pelosi inspired cartoons! The Top 10 List – That’s probably listed in the Tump Bible!
