Roughs, Volume 230

This is the second half of last week’s roughs. Only about half of these were pitched to CNN.

This was started on April 20 and it took me nine days before I could finally finish the cartoon and publish it, on Apri 29. I intended to finish it the day after I started it but stuff kept getting in the way, again and again. I needed to draw a cartoon in the evening before I went to Washington, DC to check out the college protests, so I kinda forced this one out. I had already withheld it from one blog of roughs.

I drew this on April 24. I think I chose this one over it.

This was drawn on April 26. I like it and I might bring it back if the news focuses on the National Enquirer aspect again.

This was drawn on April 26 and I don’t think I sent it to my editors at CNN. I drew a final version on April 29. Can you believe that some people didn’t like it?

This was also drawn on April 26 and I finally made it an official cartoon yesterday, May 4. It got dozens of comments from people touched by it, one editor emailed me a compliment on it, another client in Ohio posted it online within minutes of receiving it, and Cartooning For Peace will be showing on French TV because I’m a cartooning badass. It’ll be interesting to read all the comments when it lands on GoComics tomorrow. The funny thing is, I kept putting off drawing this cartoon because I didn’t like it very much.

I put a few of the Trump/SCOTUS Immunity roughs in the previous blog, but here are a few more. These were also drawn on April 26. This topic was my assignment from CNN. It was a great assignment.

I like this one. Maybe I should finish it. I’ll have plenty of time since the court isn’t expected to issue a ruling for a couple more months because it’s controlled by right-wing jackasses.

I didn’t like this one that much…or at all.

This is probably the worst one. Maybe it’s my way of telling my editor that I’m done with drawing good ideas for the day and he should go back and take another look at the others I had already sent him. Except sometimes I’m not done with drawing the good ideas.Ya know, now that I look at it again, it’s not that bad.
