Roughs, Volume 201

I only drew four roughs last week so I decided to wait for the next week’s batch of roughs and combine them. The only thing is, I drew a shit ton of roughs on Friday (20) which would make for an extremely long blog. So, I got an idea. There are several cartoons in the batch I’m considering finishing, so I’m hanging onto those for another week, and I’m going to post all the ones here that I’m not considering. The first four are from Friday, October 13. I just now realized that was Friday the 13th. I survived!

I kinda liked this one except an iron dome wouldn’t be see-through. I let it go. Also, I was kinda tired of all the other cartoons using the peace dove. Boring. Snore. Snore. Snore.

But I do like drawing bats, still… I let it go. Snore.

I do like using Halloween in my cartoons when I can, but I didn’t do this one. Instead, I turned it into this cartoon.

There’s a weird phenomenon going on at the liberal DailyKos (which is a new client) where some of the readers just don’t dislike my work, but they’re trying to cancel me. And if you leave a comment in there complimenting my work, they will bully you. A lot of the liberal readers at DailyKos were upset with this cartoon but the readers at GoComics, even the MAGA folks, had a totally different reaction to it.

This one became a finished cartoon. Most of the readers at DailyKos didn’t get it (they didn’t read any stories about it and it’s easier to leave an angry comment than Google it) but the readers at GoComics did, even the ones who would defend Elon.

The rest of these are from Friday, October 20, although a few were drawn throughout the week. These are all the scraps I’m not considering to finish, or I already did them.

This was submitted to the FXBG Advance, a local publication I’m drawing for about once a month. I really liked this one.

My editor picked this one and I liked it too.

That’s supposed to be blood on their hands and pointy fingers, but it was too much of both-sidesing it for me. I drew this when I wasn’t sure who was responsible for the strike on the Gaza hospital. I drew something else instead which naturally, the folks at DailyKos HATED. Seriously. Go read the comments.

I drew this Friday before Jim Gym Jordan withdrew after losing his third attempt to become Speaker, so this was dead.

This was dead too, but that’s OK since I used the idea before with Amy Coney Barrett three years ago.

And this was also dead which is a shame because I really liked it.

I’ve done the human ketchup thing before and I’ve been trying to bring it back ever since.

I took another stab at it. For the record, I like cheap store-brand mustard.

I don’t like this one at all.

I don’t love this one either.

This was OK.

This one isn’t good at all. Fortunately, the one CNN selected is one I love which you can see at CNN dot com after you scroll past four other cartoons.

Even with taking about eight roughs out of this, it still turned out to be a long blog. Which of these are your favorites?

  1. Not one I did not think should be out there. The affordable housing toon actually touched me the most. As developers over run this country sucking money from every source possible unbound by what seems like zero rules lead by their “fearless” mango it points directly at an issue that ties all the greed of plantation crapitalism together in one neat ugly package. 40 acres and a cruel. Thanks

  2. Clay, really nice work! My favorite is the cook Fani Willis “flipping” the first three charged in the RICO conspiracy!
