Ugly NY Cell Towers

I meant to post this last week. Oops. I drew this cartoon for The Highlands Current in upstate New York. People there do not like ugly cell phone towers. Of course, this cartoon was published before Thanksgiving.

I am not a Christmas person. I do enjoy seeing homes decorated and my neighborhood is lit up at night. But, I don’t like seeing them before Thanksgiving and hearing the music is even worse. Ugh. Most Christmas songs, like religious songs, are not good songs. People only like most of them for the topic. The only two Christmas songs I think are of any quality are Blue Christmas (the Elvis version) and Baby, It’s Cold Outside (which is kinda rapey).

I know. I’m gonna get a bunch of comments attacking me not liking Christmas music. It can’t be any worse than the outrage I provoked when I criticized cats.

Have I mentioned how easy it is working with the Current? Each time they request a cartoon and throw a subject at me, the editor actually proposes a few ideas. I have rejected each of his ideas and submitted my own, and he’s accepted without any quibbles. Sometimes, I’ve given him more than one idea for a subject and other times, I’ve only given him one.

I want to thank everyone who has donated in the past. Your support helps me continue creating cartoons and columns with a little less stress in my life. Between competing syndicates with much larger resources, timid editors, and Trump supporters who attempt to intimidate the editors who do publish anything that criticizes their idol, it’s a challenge to make a career out of this. So your support (if you can) is appreciated. Want to help me continue to create cartoons and keep doing what I’m doing (pissing off conservatives)? Look to the right of this page and make a donation through PayPal. Every $40 donation will receive a signed print (please specify which print you want or I won’t mail one). All donations will receive my eternal gratitude.

  1. I cannot believe that a supposedly intelligent and cultured man as yourself could go along with the ignorant jerks who claim that “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is “rapey”! The song’s been around longer than you have and no one, until very recently,  ever considered it as having anything to do with the guy wanting to have unconsensual sex with the woman!! What is wrong with you??!! It’s just a cute song about a man, a woman and a cold snowy night. There is NO SUGGESTION of his forcing himself on her! How idiotic to read something unsavory into it! She can certainly leave if she wants!! I’m disappointed in you.  I first became disappointed in you and refused to read your cartoons for weeks when you agreed that athletes kneeling during the national anthem was not disrespectful. It is! For decades people stood to show respect for our flag and our nation. And we need outward displays of that respect now more than ever considering the jerkwad that  ignoramuses  put in our Whitehouse. He’s enough of an embarrassment to our country all by himself! And believe you me, it grieved me greatly to have to actually agree with him on the kneeling thing. But, we need to show the rest of the world that, although we have a pathological narcissist and liar in the Whitehouse, the majority of us still love and respect our country. Just my five cents’ worth. Inflation, dontcha’ know.

    1. As a veteran, I feel as if people have forgotten how this country was created and how it has moved forward. Through dissent. What you call disrespect is the fully functional concrete example of our freedom. Without it, we would simply be automatons bowing to authoritarian symbols. I am more impressed by those football players than the millions of Americans who sit on their sedentary butts watching sports and complaining about everything in sight.
Most of them never having served, never having volunteered in their communities, never having thought that actions behind the symbolism are more important than slapping a magnet on their vehicle or putting down their beer long enough to stand up for a song.
Sorry if I jumped in here Clay, but this issue really irritates me.

  2. I’m not into music in any form, but the comments of puppyluvver24 influenced me to look up the lyrics. What Mr. Jones posted was his subjective take on the lyrics. If you follow his blogs you know he is against any form of sexual harassment.

puppyluvver24’s comment, like Mr. Jones’, is also subjective, and to be respected

This may be of interest, or not.
