Roughs, Volume 241

As stated in the last blog, I’m splitting all the roughs I drew into two blogs. This is part deux. I started this batch on a Thursday in a hotel bar in Washington, DC. It continued on a train. It finished in my apartment. I started very early and finished very late.

Of course, these were all drawn before Biden’s disaster of a debate performance.

This rough was drawn last Thursday, June 20, in the bar in the CitizenM hotel. I was drinking a few Heinekens while writing cartoons. The bar didn’t have many lager choices, so it was Heineken for me. I liked this rough but wasn’t sure everybody would get it.

This was also drawn on the 20th. I thought it was funny.

How accurate was this cartoon? It was also drawn in the bar.

Drawn in the bar. I didn’t love this one.

Again, in the bar. I’m glad this wasn’t picked but if it had been, I would have made the clown look more like Trump. Also, how accurate was this cartoon?

This was drawn Friday morning, June 21, in the hotel while drinking coffee (I had a sub the night before while watching Archer in my hotel room, so I wasn’t hungry for breakfast). I think it’s my favorite.

This was drawn on the train (VRE, where there’s no dining car, so it was drawn on my lap). How scared were Republicans of Biden…before last night?

This was drawn after I got home and my editor wanted me to focus on the fact that whoever wins this race won’t be eligible in 2028.

I honestly felt I was boxed in with what I could do within my assignment. There’s nothing wrong with that as journalists get assignments, just saying.

Very boxed in.

Technically, whoever wins won’t be a lame duck until their successor is elected, but “lame duck” was used a lot in the newsletter.

I kinda like this one and it might be more appropriate after last night’s debate.

This is the cartoon CNN selected for last week and at the time, I felt it wasn’t the right cartoon for the moment. I was pretty down about it. After President Biden’s performance in the debate last night, I don’t feel so bad about it anymore. But I still have the concern that if the wrong guy wins, there won’t be a 2028. But I do like drawing sofa forts.

This lands between meh and me kinda liking it.

Alright, kids. Which are your favorites?

  1. I enjoyed all of these cartoons more than the Debate! 🙂

Biden has a lot more energy today. I guess he shed his secret identity…
