Roughs, Volume 227

Most of these were drawn last Friday, April 12.

This was my first idea for an obit cartoon on OJ’s death and I got a better idea right at this point of the drawing process. You’ve already seen this version if you watched the video of it being drawn. I’m not going to include it in the video for all these roughs because it’ll make the video twice as long. I later saw at least three other cartoonists use this same idea. No, they didn’t steal it from it. It’s just an obvious idea.

This was my first idea on Trump’s wishy-washy cowardly abortion statement, but a friend of mine said it was meh, so I did this cartoon instead. I think I made the right call.

I liked this but I knew other cartoonists would go for the same point, and a few did. So I drew this cartoon instead.

So I was on my way to making this an official cartoon when I decided to do something else, but I saved it for CNN, who chose it a couple of days later. But by that point, I didn’t really like the artwork, so I changed it up. What do you think?

FISA finally passed so this cartoon was DOA.

I saved this for Thursday and I liked it. Some people loved it while others weren’t sure they understood it. I’ll live to take another bat tomorrow.

This didn’t go anywhere.

This is another self-rejection.

I kinda liked this but it’s another self-rejection.

I may bring this one back. Don’t be surprised if you see it again.

See? I left the pants on when I submitted it to CNN. When I knew they wouldn’t take it, I took the pants off. Sorry, not sorry. Fun note: A friend and a colleague of mine named Kevin didn’t like seeing his name on Trump’s Rump.

I’m on a puppet sabbatical but thought about ending it for this. The brilliant Mike Luckovich did something very similar this week after I had drawn this. Of course, he never saw this because it never escaped from my computer until now.

I thought there might be something with Caitlin Clark but I didn’t find it. Maybe I will later.

Which of these are your favorites?
