Most of these were drawn last Friday, February 2, except for the first three which were drawn a few days before.

the Senate held a hearing about the dangers of social media on kids and while I agree, I want to know when they’re going to hold a hearing about kids and guns.

And then there was the trial of the Michigan mother of a school shooter.

This is the one I thought I was going to go with but after the trial of the Michigan mom, I changed it.

I had a run of a few days with wordy cartoons, so I wasn’t in the mood to do this one.

This became a finished cartoon, and was one of the wordy ones I alluded to in the last paragraph. I really liked this one.

I had to do a little research for this one but I pushed it aside. I thought CNN might want a cartoon on Taylor and Travis, so I sketched a few ideas out. As it turned out, they didn’t want that from me last week.

I do like this one.

I wasted so much time on Taylor/Travis ideas. Why?

I went from Taylor to Nikki after receiving my assignment.

Basically, I was back to throwing ideas against the wall to see what would stick. This did not.

This didn’t stick either. I was boring myself with these.

And then I took a break from Nikki and did this.

I was so tired of drawing roughs at this point that I didn’t bother to finish this one which is odd because it’s the only Nikki Haley one I liked, and I really like it.

This became the cartoon for the CNN Opinion newsletter. I like it. I was drawing ideas on Nikki getting tough on Donald, and then the bombings started…so I combined the two.

I didn’t know if anyone would get this, so I did this instead, which the outline for it had been sitting on my iPad for about a week. My concern with this one was that people wouldn’t know Iranian food (I did some research where I also looked up common Iranian names). I did go to a place the next day that kabobs on the menu, but I got a gyro, which is pronounced “year-row.” Fight me.
