Militarized Bumpkins

Since the incident in Ferguson there’s been a lot of speculation about militarizing police.  There’s supposed to be a difference between the military and local police.  Currently there’s a Department Of Defense program that dispenses unwanted military equipment to police departments across the country.

For example, Culpeper County here in Virginia has a 25 thousand pound mine resistant vehicle.  Culpeper has a population of 16,000.  I wonder what percentage of Culpeperites (Culpeperians?  Culpeperpers?  Culpeperinians?)  are mine laying gangsters.

I’m an Andy Griffith Show fan.  I still watch it every now and then.  Probably the best show ever until Barney left and it went to color.  I saw a few cartoons use Mayberry analogies this week but none had a joke about Barney’s pocket.  You know, Barney has one single bullet and he has to keep it in his pocket.  Andy even sang about it once.  “Oh my Barney, oh my Barney.  Had a jail and couldn’t lock it.  Had a bullet for his pistol had to keep it in his pocket.”

That’s quality entertainment.
