Trump Train

Trump Train

cjones06182016

After Trump insinuated that Obama was sympathetic toward terrorists (wink wink, nudge nudge), The Washington Post published a story on his comments. Trump reacted by banning the Post from covering his events. He claimed they were taking his words out of context and that he never would insinuate that Obama would be behind such a horrible attack. Then he doubled down on his comments and tweeted out a Breitbart story about how Obama is an ISIS sympathizer. He’s also given press credentials to Infowars which is a conspiracy site.

It’s kinda telling that Trump hates The Washington Post but loves Breitbart. Trump hates journalists but Breitbart is OK because they’re not real journalists. They’re like news chlamydia. There’s a cure for it, but if you caught it once then you’re probably gonna go back and catch it again. Trump has a thing about bashing reporters. He claims the New York Times is a failing newspaper while touting the fine reporting of The National Enquirer. He blasts The Washington Post. He was a huge fan of the show Morning Joe which tells you a lot about that show (though I don’t think he likes them anymore). He even feuded with Fox News and Megyn Kelly. Then he makes up, feuds again, makes up, feuds again, etc.

Trump has banned nine media outlets from his events. NINE! In addition to The Post they include, National Review, Politico, The Des Moines Register, The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, The Daily Beast, Univision, and Gawker for running an investigation on his hair. He’s banned specific reporters from Mother Jones, Fusion, and The New York Times. He’s taken credit for the Union Leader in New Hampshire being dropped from a debate.

Trump is now talking about having his own network, much like Sarah Palin attempted a while back (which fizzled and burned out). If Trump actually wants a media empire then he better quit the race and start now. After he loses to Hillary Clinton in November his brand won’t be as marketable. He’ll be a loser like he accuses Romney of being, though Trump won’t carry as many states as Romney did in 2012.

Back to the Post: Editor Bob Woodward, who is no journalistic slouch, has unleashed 20 reporters to dig into Trump’s background to find stuff we don’t know yet. He’s doing the same on Hillary Clinton (though I doubt there’s anything new there after almost 30 years of being in the spotlight).

Bob Woodward was half the team that broke the Watergate story. If Trump is actually elected president I’m sure he looks forward to the story that will lead to his impeachment.

It seems the only correct way to cover a Trump event is not to report what he actually says. He doesn’t like that.

Creative note: When I got this idea I told myself to think of another idea. I really liked this idea but I’m not a big fan of drawing trains. Some cartoonists hate drawing crowds. I don’t like trains. Bicycles suck too.

Trump’s Tantrum On Terror

cjones06162016

Usually after a national tragedy, the country comes together. People with different philosophical and political beliefs can push them aside, at least for a few days, to unite and stand together. Then there’s Donald Trump.

Immediately after the attack in Orlando Trump tweeted how people were “congratulating” him on being right. Terrorist attack on our nation, 49 dead, over 50 injured, and Donald Trump uses it to point out how great he is.

The terrorist was born in the United States. That news was reported and confirmed Sunday. A day later Trump conducts a speech where he calls for a ban on Muslims immigrating to the United States because the Orlando attacker was “Afghan born.” What the Hell does that mean? Was he swaddled as a baby in an Afghan carpet? Maybe delivered by an Afghan Hound?

The shooter was born in the United States. Everyone and their brother, even those with stupid brothers, knew of this. Trump is so obnoxious that he can’t even let information sink in that challenges his narrative.

Speaking of narrative, he’s sticking with the GOP talking point that we have to call these attacks “radical Islam.” They can’t just say “radical.” They have to put the Islam into it. When an abortion clinic or church is attacked, they don’t refer to the killer as a “radical Christian.” Do you know why? Because Christianity doesn’t have anything to do with their warped viewpoint that makes them kill. Islam doesn’t either. Republicans, especially Donald Trump, prefer to scapegoat an entire religion.

Trump wants the president to decide who can and can’t enter the country. I think Hitler sought, and achieved, the same power.

Then Trump said Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the 2nd Amendment. They’ve been saying the same thing about Obama for years. How bad is your platform when you have to make stuff up? Pretty weak when you can’t stick to facts.

The worst part of Trump’s tantrum? He insinuated that Obama supports the terrorists. He was the birther campaign’s champion. He was proven wrong. He’s already proven wrong with his latest accusation. His campaign is making excuses for his comment ““He doesn’t get it or, or he gets it better than anybody understands. “It’s one or the other. And either one is unacceptable.” He later said Obama is either not tough and smart or has “something else in mind.”

The bad thing is, a lot of Obama haters have been saying the same crap for years. Obama is a Muslim. He hates America. He’s apologizing for America. He supports Muslims over Israel. There’s never any proof to any of that but yet they keep it up. Now their presumptive nominee is doing the same. They have the crazy, paranoid, conspiracy theory loving candidate. No wonder his favorite publication is the National Enquirer. It should be Breitbart.

Republicans won’t talk about Trump today. I can’t blame them. But instead of hiding in shame I would like to think I would have the principles to denounce a member of my party who accuses the president of supporting terrorism.

Hillary Clinton attacked Trump today. So did the president and he tore Trump apart, especially over his proposal to ban Muslims and his questioning the lack of using the term “radical Islam.”

We might have to introduce a new term into the political dialogue to be used for the rest of this campaign. “Traitorous Trump.” The man will put politics and himself above his nation.

The man, and anyone who supports him, is supporting treason.

Alligator Arms

cjones06122016

I’m not often amused by Geico commercials, especially the ones with the gecko. He’s annoying. But I liked the one with alligator arms. It shows a group of people at a restaurant and one of them is an alligator, who volunteers to pay for the meal. Unfortunately since he has alligator arms he can’t reach the check. I’ve been wanting to use the concept for a cartoon for a few days now.

Fortunately for me, Donald Trump (the usual suspect), has given me the opportunity.

Donald Trump doesn’t like to pay his bills. He stiffs employees, contractors, and even the lawyers that fight his lawsuits brought on by those he stiffed. Nice guy. His excuse? Sometimes if the work is shoddy he doesn’t believe he should pay for it, or not the full amount he originally agreed to. And then he tries to hire back the contractor who performed the original “shoddy” work.

He often renegotiates a contract after the job is done. He’s driven people to unemployment lines and pushed companies into bankruptcy over his screw-’em-all policy.

Then people sue him. The number of lawsuits filed against him has risen to an absurd level. And then after lawyers fight for him, he tries to stiff them. And then they sue him and he hires new lawyers…and he later stiffs them.

Trump, the man of the people who’ll bring jobs back, is not a nice guy. He’s cheated on his wives. He’s degraded women, Mexicans, immigrants, Muslims, journalists, the handicapped, etc. He’s scammed people with his so-called university. He’s a pathological liar. On top of all that he’s a racist.

There’s an argument in his favor that he’s the candidate who has experience creating jobs. He’s also the candidate that rips people off, and drives them into unemployment and bankruptcy.

I’d rather vote for an alligator.

Historic Firsts

cjones06102016

I’ve been itching to draw an Oompa Loompa since Trump first announced his candidacy.

The Democratic Party is making history for the second time in a row with their party’s nominee. After making Barack Obama the first African-American nominee of a major American political party they have now made Hillary Clinton the first female.

In contrast the Republican Party has made a foolish, racist imbecile their nominee.

Some might think this cartoon doesn’t make a political point by calling Trump an “Oompa Loompa.” I think it does by just showing how ridiculous of a person the GOP has sank their future in.

On top of all that I really wanted to draw Trump as an Oompa Loompa.

Ryan Gets Trumped

cjones06092016

On the same day Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said he was voting for Donald Trump, note he didn’t say “endorse”, he had to make a statement condemning Trump’s racism. On Tuesday he actually came out and described Trump’s statements toward a judge as “racist.”

Within the same paragraph of describing Trump’s comments as racist, Ryan went on to say that he and his party had more in common with Trump than Hillary Clinton. If Paul Ryan had a soul he lost it last Monday.

I get that. They’re Republicans. They’ve spent over two decades trying to destroy the Clintons. But to say they have more in common with an inflammatory racist than with a Democrat is very telling…and very much Paul Ryan selling his soul in the name of politics.

Several Republicans have come out over the past few days condemning Trump for his racist statements. When someone has to defend themselves from racism because of one comment, then maybe they’re not an actual racist and they have been misunderstood. When you have to keep defending someone over SEVERAL racist comments, then the game is up. That tool bag is a racist. Are they really running with the campaign of “vote Trump. He’s really not a racist.”?

A telling sign that someone is a racist is when they’re playing the black-friend defense. Other than Trump screaming at a rally “where’s my African-American,” he’s gone on to tell us again and again how he’s hired people of different races. Yeah, with that analogy slave owners just loved black people. You don’t get a get-out-of-racism-jail-free card with that crap.

Every political cartoonist gets accused of being a racist at some point. We’re also accused of being Nazis, Communists, Traitors, Homosexuals, being without a penis, having sex with livestock, etc. Do you know how I respond to those accusations? I don’t. I don’t worry about having to respond to something that’s not true. My work speaks for itself and a reader without the ability to comprehend really isn’t my problem. Donald Trump has to respond to the racism accusations because they’re true. He also gets upset with the tiny hands comments which is very revealing.

The GOP is very racist. It’s not that they disagree with what Donald Trump is saying. It’s that they disagree that he’s not covert about it. They’re like “shut up. You’re giving away the first rule of Racist Fight Club.” For decades Republicans have cultivated the white vote by screaming about welfare, immigrants, school lunch, quotas, equal opportunity, affirmative action, birtherism, etc. They’re not supposed to go out in public and scream “he’s not good enough because he’s a Mexican.” They like to preserve that stuff for their cigar rooms at their country clubs away from the crowds and media. They’re very good at being covert and imagining welfare queens while winking at poor white voters who are actually on welfare. Minorities are for scapegoating and standing in the background of photo ops. Now they have a nominee too stupid not to say it in public. When Donald Trump shouted at a rally “my African-American” the GOP got off light because Trump was one step away from saying “my n***ger.”

“My n**ger” is a platform Republicans can get with. But it has to be disguised. Disguised with something like, oh…I don’t know….something like “Make American Great Again.”

Judging Colors

cjones06062016

Donald Trump is a racist. People are hesitant to level that charge, even while stating they disagree with one of his several racist comments, and we should be reluctant to slap that label on someone. But when you keep making racist comments you’re a racist. What does it take for Republicans and the press to finally realize Trump is a racist? Does he have to burn a cross at the GOP convention? Trump has gone beyond being merely insensitive and ignorant.

A lot of people accused George W. Bush of being a racist. He wasn’t. He just didn’t care about anyone except those with money. Trump doesn’t care about anyone but the rich, but he judges people by the color of their skin or their religion. He’s a hater.

Trump has a 1950’s view of race. He refers to other ethnic groups as “the Blacks” or “the Hispanics” all while saying he loves them. He believes posing with a taco bowl demonstrates his open mindedness. He refers to someone as “Pocahontas.” He points out an African-American at his rally as “my African-American,” which also points out there’s only one black person at a Trump rally. He wants to ban Muslims from entering the country. He accuses Mexican immigrants of being rapists and murderers though he assumes “some are good people.” He refuses to renounce white supremacists who endorse him and says he doesn’t know anything about them or David Duke, even though he has a history with them. Trump has investigated Obama’s birth place and questioned his legitimacy. He’s called upon Obama to release his college transcripts while not calling for any of his primary opponents to release their transcripts or even release his own. He recently tweeted a photo of black Trump supporters, which turned out to be false. After Black Lives Matters protesters were roughed up at one of his rallies Trump said “maybe they should have been roughed up.” When two white men assaulted a homeless Latino man, while shouting pro-Trump rhetoric, Trump stated that they were “passionate.” So were Emmett Till’s murderers

He labels an Indiana-born judge hearing his university case as a Mexican, but it’s OK to be a Mexican, just not a Mexican judge hearing a case where a white person is the plaintiff.

Isn’t it great that Trump thinks it’s OK if a person is a Mexican, as if there’s some choice in the matter? I’m sure I have left out an example of Trumps racism.

A lot of Trump surrogates will point out that Trump has hired minorities. Strom Thurmond used to sleep with black women and even fathered a child with one and he was still a racist. Who you know, marry, sleep with, do business with, is not a race get out of jail free card. The black-friend defense does not work anymore.

What Republicans need to ask themselves now is: How much integrity are you willing to sacrifice for politics? The same day that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said he would vote for Trump he had to distance himself from the nominee’s racist comments. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was asked at least three times by Chuck Todd on MSNBC on Sunday if Trump calling for a judge to be removed because of his race is racist. The only answer McConnell could give was that he disagreed with it. He couldn’t even say yes or no, which means yes and he’s a coward.

Republicans are looking at what’s best for their party, while this could end up destroying their party even if they win the White House. What they’re not looking at is what’s best for the country. Oh they hate Hillary. They hate Hillary so much they’ll elect an ignorant, blowhard, buffoonish, racist conman to the presidency. But hey, we stuck it to the Clintons.

Trump is a racist. Republicans and the press need to acknowledge it and take it from his own words. No talking points have to be created. The only group he hasn’t slurred yet are the Oompa Loompas and that’s only because they share his orangeness. Hopefully nobody takes that idea from me for a cartoon. Crap, I just got another Trump cartoon idea!

I hope that all those who are sacrificing principles for Trump are remembered for their cowardice and their willingness to sacrifice the nation. We should never forget where they stood when it was time to stand on the right side of history. I believe if I was very conservative and wanted extreme limitations for the federal government, I would still be more afraid of a Trump presidency than what Hillary Clinton will do to this country.

You can disagree with Hillary Clinton and not want her to become president without your supporting blatant racism, or even covert racism (though the covert part is fading).

By the way: If Trump wins the presidency he will be impeached. He already believes he’s above the law. How big is his head going to blow up after he’s president? What will he attempt to get away with while sitting in the Oval Office?

I am tired of drawing Trump so much. I’ve written that before. Yet I love drawing Trump cartoons. Is this what it’s like to be on crack? I love it. I hate it. I love it. I feel the need to send a note with this cartoon to all my newspapers that I’ll cover other subjects this week. Hey, that Tuesday primary should be interesting on the Democratic side. I still want to draw a cartoon on violence against Trump supporters.

Float Like A Butterfly

cjones06052016

Muhammad Ali died today.

I was too young to Watch Ali fight during his prime but I did see him fight great fighters who were much younger than him, and couldn’t hold a candle to Ali during his prime. There is no debate on the greatest fighter of all time. It’s Muhammad Ali.

I also respect the man for standing by his principles, even against the threat of losing everything he had fought for. I’m not real big on drawing obituary cartoons, but he inspired this and it’s dedicated to him.

Donald Trump has been very successful in business and entertainment, yet he seems to lack any understanding of…well…most things. He’s made that clear time and time again on the campaign trial, but no more than he has over the past few days. When asked if it’s racist to call for the removal of a judge because of his ethnicity, his response is “I want to build a wall.”

Hillary Clinton eviscerated Trump in a speech attacking his positions on foreign policy. She didn’t go the Marco Rubio route and make fun of the size of his hands. She used his own words against him. Trump, who calls himself a “counter puncher” punched back with “she’s gone to the left because she doesn’t want to go to prison.” Can anyone understand that? His other retorts are “she’s a liar” and that she doesn’t look presidential. The orange shouting man in the red hat with the ridiculous hair doesn’t believe Clinton looks presidential. The strongest part of Clinton’s speech was that she used Trump’s own words against him and they were all true. Even when Trump says she was lying, he can’t point out a part where she lied. He tried with the Japan nuke thing, but it turned out Trump was lying…again.

Later during another campaign rally, Trump talked about a friend of his who is black and referred to the man as “My African American.” It’s really hard to defend this man or to state that Mr. Taco Bowl understand anything.

At some point the media is going to stop being so cautious with Trump. They’ve been afraid of appearing biased and unfair toward the man. But it’s really hard when he says what he says. Right now we’re at the point of talking about his temperament and looking presidential. Soon all of his lies will be called out, such as calling for Japan to acquire nuclear weapons and saying he opposed the Iraq War. By November we’ll be to the point of questioning his sanity and we’ll be using the word “stupid.”

Here’s a man who lies about everything. Everything. Yet, he calls other people liars. He was upset when the former president of Mexico dropped an F bomb and stated it was disgusting language. Seriously, Trump has a problem with other people cursing. The man might suffer from dementia or maybe even split personalities.

Then again, maybe he’s just stupid. Ali could do more than deliver a punch, he could take one. So can Hillary Clinton. Trump can dish ’em out, but the man has an orange-glass jaw.
