Trump Lies

Mr. 10,000

cjones05042019

Donald Trump likes to boast that he’s accomplished more than any other American president, which is a lie. Ironically, that’s just one of the lies that helped him truly accomplish something no other president, and perhaps all other presidents combined didn’t do, and that’s tell the most lies.

Donald Trump lies. We know that. When you point that out to a Trump sycophant, their response is, “but Obama” and they pull out, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” OK. Let’s give them that which would be one lie for Obama. Hell, let’s go ahead and use The New York Times’ tally, and give Obama 18 lies.

In case you don’t want to click the link, Obama told six lies in his first year in office and he averaged two a year after that. The Times counts 18 for Trump in his first three weeks, but they’re being nice. They didn’t count the lies he repeated. The Times even compared Trump to George W. Bush. One interesting detail is that once a lie was proven untrue, Bush and Obama would stop saying them. Trump doubles down.

The Washington Post has also counted Trump’s lies. In fact, The Post says he hit a milestone on April 16, 2019. On that day, Trump crossed the mark for 10,000 lies. The Post points out it took him 601 days to tell 5,000, but then he must have taken some Red Bulls because it only took him 226 days to tell his next 5,000. That’s quite an accomplishment and he deserves to reward himself with some hamberders.

Trump will lie about anything. Most presidents lie about important stuff. Trump lies about where his father was born. He lies about crowd sizes. He lies about Finland raking forests. He lies about terrorist attacks in Sweden. He lies about how many floors are in Trump Tower. He lies about illegal voters. He lies about caravans. He lies about who’s funding those caravans. He lies about people needing IDs to buy groceries. He lies about how many times he was on the cover of Time. He lies about the wall being built. He lied about Obama wiretapping Trump Tower.

He’ll lie about telling a lie. His lies have proven he can’t be trusted in negotiations. He agreed to a compromise on DACA and funding for his wall, which turned out to be a lie when he changed his mind. He stated he was for gun control until the NRA jumped on his orange ass, so that turned into another lie. Yesterday, he agreed with Democrats to put two trillion dollars into an infrastructure bill…but spoiler alert…that’s a lie.

Even the Mueller Report has documented his lies and states his administration told 77 lies about their dealings with Russia.

The Week published an article giving six theories on why Trump lies. The article doesn’t include my theory, which is…he’s a psychopath. But after the guy continues lying about things easily disproven, like whether it rained or not during his inauguration speech, we need to give up trying to figure out why he lies so much. What we need to figure out is why anyone still supports him.

Why do so many people not just have such little respect for the presidency, but for themselves to follow a guy who lies to them? Trump has around 90 percent approval among Republicans, which is resembling less of a political party and more of a cult. What puzzles me most is, wouldn’t your cult leader need to exhibit some sort of charm and charisma? Wouldn’t your cult leader have to at least sound good while gaslighting you and not like a whiny little Cheeto-glazed baby? Here’s the kicker for Trump supporters; when you defend a liar, you become a liar. In fact, never during the Trump era has someone been able to defend him without telling a lie. Seriously. Pay attention and you’ll catch it. They all lie.

At the rate Trump is going, he’ll pass 20,000 lies before election day. We should demand more from people who represent us. Personally, I wouldn’t hire someone who lied 26 times a day like Trump does. So when election day comes, don’t rehire Trump.

Cuckoo For Cheeto Puffs

Here’s your weekly cartoon for CNN’s weekly newsletter, Provoke/Persuade. Please sign up to get these in your inbox every Sunday for the rest of your life.

Trump is messed up in the head, and last week he demonstrated it more than usual.

Donald Trump doesn’t like the way votes are counted. The reality is, he doesn’t like the way people are voting. In two national elections, a majority of Americans rejected him both times.

He claims his father was born in Germany. He’s made this claim multiple times. His father was born in New York City. His grandfather was born in Germany and that was something they lied about decades ago.

Trump made the claim that noise from windmills cause cancer. Seriously. If listening to Nickelback doesn’t kill you then you’ll probably survive the noise from a windmill. Are windmills even noisy?

Trump wants to know where the oranges of investigations are. Oranges. He meant “origins,” but me thinks all that orange on his skin is sinking into his brain.

Finally, Trump told his supporters they need to be more paranoid. Trust me. They’re paranoid enough.

Cuckoo can’t compete with Trump.

Prime Time Liar

cjones01132019

Last night, Donald Trump made news with a prime time address from the prestigious setting of the Oval Office. I mean, it was news if you’re a Trump sycophant who believes a 72-year-old racist, sniffy, bloviating Cheeto-skinned fear monger repeating the same arguments from the past three years off a teleprompter with the reading level of a third grader is news.

In 2014, the major networks refused to air a prime-time address by President Obama because they deemed it too political. Last night, they aired one from Donald Trump where he argued that Democrats should end his government shutdown by funding his racist medieval vanity project so rapists and murderers would stop crossing our southern border. I’m glad it didn’t get political.

The latest talking point from the stupidest and most racist administration in American history is “crisis.”

Yes, we have a crisis on the border if you can ignore the facts that illegal border crossings have been decreasing steadily over the past decade, most drugs entering this nation pass through ports of entry, people here illegally commit far less violent crimes than those born here naturally, and most here illegally entered with visas.

All the above was fact-checked by one news anchor who also reported that the $5.7 billion the shutdown is over was requested, not by law enforcement as Trump claimed, but by Trump himself. The anchor also called Trump out over his claim that the new trade deal with Mexico will pay for the wall, by pointing out the deal is not yet complete. That anchor was Shep Smith of Fox News.

Trump also claimed the wall would pay for itself. He didn’t explain how, so we’re all to assume the wall will get a job.

There is a crisis on the border, but it’s not crossings. It’s Trump’s policy of family separation and putting children in detention camps. In addition to the shutdown, Trump owns a humanitarian crisis.

Trump’s address would have made news if he used it to declare a “national emergency,” but he didn’t. That is a good thing because the only national emergency for Trump is that government employees won’t be paid this Friday, he’s losing support, and he’s owning this shutdown.

If the border crisis is such a national emergency, then how does it make sense to have the government shutdown? How will $5.7 billion, a down payment for a construction project that will take years and be much more expensive, be an immediate solution?

Trump let radio talk show host bungholes cajole him into this shutdown and now he’s in a corner he can’t get out of. If he crumbles, his entire argument for the wall and Mexico ever paying for it is over. If he holds firm, he’ll continue to hurt 800,000 government employees and the families and local economies that rely on their income.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer gave a rebuttal while sharing a podium and looking goofy. But their argument made sense. End the shutdown and continue negotiating about border security. Democrats will support funding for the border, just not a stupid and useless wall.

Trump’s address was to save his skin among his base, but all he did was repeat the same arguments he made over the past week to the press and on Twitter. He blamed Democrats, claimed they don’t support border security, and lied about the dangers of immigrants. And, he did it without any energy or enthusiasm.

It was later reported that Trump didn’t want to give the speech or go to Texas later this week for a border photo-op. In an off-the-record luncheon, he told reporters, “It’s not going to change a damn thing, but I’m still doing it,” and that the Texas trip is just a “photo opportunity.” Somehow, all that got on the record.

Don’t expect the public mood to shift in Trump’s favor. He made the same argument about the border and created lies about migrant caravans during the campaign for the midterm elections. America responded by voting overwhelmingly against the Trump agenda. The majority of Americans are rejecting racism and xenophobia.

Once again, Trump proved he can’t be trusted. This time, the networks got burned. Maybe they’ll remember this non-news event the next time Trump asks to use their networks for a prime-time address. But, they probably didn’t learn anything.

I expect more Republicans to call to end the shutdown before this day is over. I also expect Trump to end the shutdown soon and tell us we should all thank him for that. His supporters will echo that, and he was the mature one for ending it…after starting it. That is not a bold prediction.

Creative note: I finally caved and did a Pinocchio cartoon. I thought this was an interesting take on the cliché while poking fun at myself for always drawing Trump’s hair and tie protruding out of televisions. What will I do next, draw Trump as Humpty Dumpty on the wall?

Putin Talking Points

cjones01092019

Did you know the reason the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 was because of terrorism? Did you know the Soviet Union had the right to invade them? Did you know it led to the Soviet Union being called “Russia” today? Yeah, me neither.

First, a quick little history lesson.

Afghanistan was a puppet government of the Soviet Union. When an insurgency popped up, initially backed by Pakistan and Iran, the Soviet Union invaded to protect their puppet state. Their justification was the Brezhnev Doctrine, which was a policy they used to justify their “right” to intervene in the affairs of communist countries. This was a big deal during the Cold War and the Soviets had argued this policy when intervening in uprisings in Hungary and Czechoslovakia, retroactively. Russians are real big about revisionism, which we’ll get to in a minute.

Leonid Brezhnev was the head of the Soviet Union and he sent Soviet forces into his southern neighbor where they fought for ten years trying to protect communism. By the end of the war, the Soviets lost nearly 15,000 soldiers and their Afghan allies lost around 18,000. It’s estimated they had killed between 75,000 to 90,000 of the Mujahideen, the forces trying to restore Afghanistan back to an Islamist state.

Between 562,000 to two million civilians were killed with around three million wounded. There were about five million refugees and two million displaced.

The United States, along with the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, West Germany, Pakistan, and China, were aiding the Mujahideen (which included the likes of Osama bin Laden). Go rent Charlie Wilson’s War.

President Jimmy Carter’s administration opposed the Soviet invasion and even boycotted participating in the Moscow Olympics over it. President Ronald Reagan continued Carter’s policy of support against the Soviet Union. These were two presidents, Democratic and Republican who knew that the Russians were not our friend.

Earlier this week while engaging in an incoherent rant at a cabinet meeting, Donald Trump, the current president of the United States, said, “The reason Russia was in Afghanistan was because terrorists were going into Russia. They were right to be there. The problem is, it was a tough fight. And literally, they went bankrupt; they went into being called Russia again, as opposed to the Soviet Union. You know, a lot of these places you’re reading about now are no longer part of Russia because of Afghanistan.”

His rambling kinda reminded me of my college history professor, who was also insane. He once went on a rant about how great Montreal was until draft dodging American hippies went up there and pooped on the sidewalks. The subject we were on was not Vietnam or Canadian history. Fortunately, it wasn’t on the test.

I don’t know if my college professor was accurate at any part of his rant, or if he was off his meds like our president, but everything Donald Trump said was bullshit.

The war was not about terrorism, they did not have the right to be there, and Afghanistan is just one of many factors leading to the collapse of the Soviet Union. But where did Donald Trump get this idea about the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan? I was a kid and I remember all of this, so surely an old orange racist fart like Donald Trump would remember it. Right? Since there has never been any sort of revisionist campaign in this nation about the Soviet’s invasion, how could Trump come up with such a cockamamie description? Putin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has much control over Trump, has initiated a propaganda campaign describing the war exactly as Donald Trump did. So, did Trump get this description from his master? Probably, but when? Did Putin feed it into his head during their private off-the-record chat in Helsinki? Probably.

Once again, Trump is doing Putin’s bidding. He’s advocating for Russian propaganda and even that nation’s pride. He’s arguing they had the right to invade their neighbor, undermining American policy and patriotism of Presidents Carter and Reagan.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, a friend to Trump’s policies and owned by Rupert Murdoch, called Trump’s history lesson “reprehensible.”

They wrote, “We cannot recall a more absurd misstatement of history by an American President.”

I can’t recall a more absurd human to occupy the office of the American presidency. I also can’t recall one more stupid, racist, traitorous, despicable, stupid, sexists, and appeasing to Russia.

Did I mention “stupid” more than once? I’m fine with that.

Trump is Putin’s puppet, and he appeases him again and again. He’s defended Russia’s attack on our democracy and now he’s advocating for Putin’s propaganda. I think Trump’s comments is further justification for his impeachment. I hope Mueller is taking notes.

Trump and Putin are trying to rewrite history. I assure you, history won’t be kind to them. Instead of rewriting history, I’d rather see Trump become history.

A Cereal Liar

cjones11192018

The damage Donald Trump has inflicted on this nation in just the past few years will last for generations. Forty years from now, a couple of people will be sitting in a cafe in Paris debating if the United States is still dumb enough to elect a lying, racist, sexist, stupid, juvenile, corrupt reality TV show host.

Trump sycophants with daddy issues believe their deity has restored international respect and prestige to the United States. In reality, he’s brought scorn and ridicule. Donald Trump is an international dumbass.

The sycos are mad at CNN’s Jim Acosta and believe Trump was right to pull his White House press credentials. They accuse him of being a prima donna and disrespecting the president. At the press conference where Acosta infuriated Trump, the reporter prefaced a question about the caravan by pointing out that it’s not an “invasion.” Why did Acosta do this? Because he doesn’t work for Fox News.

It’s a reporter’s job to push back when a politician lies, especially such blatant Trump lies. That’s why Trump goes to the Daily Caller, a wing-nut publication that won’t push back.

Yesterday, Trump gave an interview to the Caller where he again lied about voter fraud in Florida. But, he compounded his usual stupid lie with an even amazingly dumber one. He said, “When people get in line that have absolutely no right to vote and they go around in circles. Sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again. Nobody takes anything. It’s really a disgrace what’s going on.”

It is a disgrace what’s going on. It’s a disgrace that the president of the United States doesn’t just engage in conspiracy theories but also invents them. It’s a disgrace that the reporters he does talk to don’t call him out on it. But, it gets even dumber.

While arguing for voter ID laws, he said, “If you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID. They try to shame everybody by calling them racist, or calling them something, anything they can think of, when you say you want voter ID. But voter ID is a very important thing.”

Trump made the claim last August that you need an ID to buy groceries as if going to Kroger is the same as entering The Viper Room. But, needing an ID to buy cereal? Yeah, maybe if you’re a silly rabbit because Trix are for kids.

And changing shirts to vote again? The pollsters would have to be really stupid to be unable to recognize your face because you changed shirts. That’d only work in a Republican primary.

Trump should bounce his lies off a committee, so they can take a vote on whether the lie is too stupid for a president to tell. Of course, any lie Trump tells passes the smell test for his followers, but how about lies for the rest of us? How about something with a little uncertainty, that’d at least make you Google? Some of us aren’t Tomi Lahren.

But, telling us thousands of illegals in an invading caravan full of Middle Easterners desiring to commit cereal fraud isn’t going to swing it. That’s just a Honey Bunches of Bullshit.

Troops Meet The Caravan Invasion

cjones11022018

One sure way to tell that the caravan “invasion” isn’t dangerous to the United States is that Republicans have to lie about it. If it’s actually so bad, then why can’t they be honest and only deliver the facts?

Trump campaigned on hatred toward immigrants. He accused Mexico of sending us rapists and murderers when he announced his campaign. It’s red meat for a base of stupid people who believe immigration is the greatest danger facing our nation, and not say, a friend to white supremacists in the White House.

Republicans and Donald Trump tell us it’s being funded by George Soros and Democrats. That’s the same rhetoric a white supremacist terrorist used to justify killing eleven Jews in a Pittsburgh synagogue last Saturday.

Trump has claimed there are gang members and even people from the Middle East in the caravan. He and the GOP state it’s a national emergency and an invasion. Now, they’re even claiming they’re bringing diseases like smallpox.

Trump has ordered 5,200 troops to man the border to protect us from this invasion. That is an abuse of our military. Our troops should not be used as election props. The caravan is over 2,000 miles away from our border, and they’re traveling by foot. So, why are the troops at the border now? Let’s see if they’re still there after Election Day.

This is not an invasion. These are mostly women and children seeking asylum. Do we really need an army to meet mothers wearing flip-flops and carrying babies? Trust me. After walking over 2,000 miles, they’re not going to feel like fighting.

As for carrying diseases, the last naturally occurring case of smallpox was in 1977.

There is no proof that gangs are in this caravan. There’s also not any proof that Muslims from the Middle East are trying to gain entry to the U.S. from Guatemala. Buy a map, idiots.

Republicans also keep fluctuating the numbers in the caravan. Some put it as high as 14,000. Yesterday, it was reported the number has decreased to less than 4,000. Most people in the caravan will not make it to the U.S. border. The last caravan was in April, and only about 150 migrants from that caravan made it to our border. We need the army to meet 150 migrants?

Another point you don’t hear much about is that these migrants are coming here legally. If you listen to Republicans, they’re all either sneaking or just crashing through Trump’s nonexistent border wall (which he claims is under construction but it’s not). These people will apply for refugee status. They have a legal right to do that. If someone walks over 2,000 miles to request asylum, we should hear them out. Not every immigrant can pose naked in a magazine and catch the attention of a billionaire who likes to trade up with wives.

Trump is also threatening to end birthright citizenship by executive order. He can’t do that. That’s protected in the Constitution. But, he doesn’t really intend to do that. It’s just good election propaganda. His base will love it. He doesn’t care that he’s lying. His lies have only grown more preposterous as the election nears. He also claimed we’re the only nation that grants birthright citizenship when there’s actually over 30 who do. Trump can get away with these lies because his base doesn’t research, and they don’t have enough integrity to demand honesty from their leader.

Walking thousands of miles on the slim hope of providing a better future for your children is integrity. What is lacking in integrity is exploiting people who need help so you can drum up fear and paranoia in your already frightened and paranoid little base of racists. It also takes gall to continue to exploit this and continue to lie and repeat the rhetoric of pipe bombers and synagogue shooters after what happened last week. Donald Trump was still exploiting the issue the day of the Pittsburgh massacre. He didn’t even pause to catch his breath.

We are the United States and can do better than using women and children refugees for exploitation. The people who do that are no better than the gangs who prey on them during their journey.

I like to think America is better than that. Hopefully, next Tuesday, America proves it is.

If You Like Your B.S., You Can Keep Your B.S.

cjones10232018

When you point out any of Donald Trump’s lies to one of his sycophants, you’ll hear two responses. They’ll either come at you about Obama’s 57 states comment or his “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” promise in 2013.

To compare Obama’s 57 states gaffe to what Donald Trump does on a daily basis, one must be delusional. As Kellyanne Conway’s husband George tweeted, “There’s a huge difference between an isolated slip of the tongue and ceaseless, shameless, and witless prevarication on virtually all topics, large and small.”

But, Obama’s promise that you can keep your doctor turned out to be untrue for a lot of people. His actual quote was, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” and PolitiFact named it the Lie of the Year for 2013.

Even with lies, there are differences between Obama and Trump. When Obama made his statement, it hadn’t been proven to be untrue at the time. As time went on and it turned out to be false, he stopped saying it. Eventually, Obama apologized.

Donald Trump lies about stuff that’s already known to be false, and he doubles down to perpetuate the lie. Then, his followers repeat it until they’re all gaslighted to the point that reality is their delusion. For example; Trump sycophants believe the economy didn’t recover from the Bush recession until January 2017, the day Trump took office. Most of them don’t even remember the recession started under Bush. This really defies reality since they actually lived through the Obama era, but maybe 62 million Americans were in a coma for eight years. If Trump has made the 57-states gaffe, Republicans would be in chat rooms right now arguing that there are seven additional states.

When Republican Congressman Bruce Poliquin of Maine was asked if he voted to repeal Obamacare, he says he didn’t. He tells this lie despite the record, and video evidence that shows he did vote to repeal Obamacare and its pre-existing conditions protections. He even removed a promise from his website to “end Obamacare.” Now, Republicans are telling voters that they’ll save pre-existing protections if we return them to Congress, despite the fact that they already tried to destroy it after spending several years promising to do so. Poliquin is just an example of these liars.

Of the 73 House Republicans in competitive races, 67 of them voted to eliminate Obamacare’s protection of pre-existing conditions. Now, they’re all champions for healthcare.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is talking about destroying Obamacare after the midterm elections. He’s even talking about cutting Medicare and Social Security to help lower the deficit their tax cuts for the rich helped create. Despite this, Donald Trump says most Republicans are against it.

Trump tweeted, “All Republicans support people with pre-existing conditions, and if they don’t, they will after I speak to them. I am in total support. Also, Democrats will destroy your Medicare, and I will keep it healthy and well!” Trump tells a lot of lies. From that tweet, you’d think Trump has never talked to a Republican or himself.

While Trump talks about protecting coverage of pre-existing conditions, his own administration is backing a lawsuit that will destroy Obamacare. Trump’s Justice Department has declined to defend the health care law in court against a suit from 20 GOP-led states challenging Obamacare’s constitutionality.

After being unpopular for many years, Obamacare now has an approval from a majority of Americans. Despite promising to repeal it for the entirety of its existence, Republicans never had a plan to replace it. They still don’t. Trump’s promise during the presidential campaign was to replace it with “something better.” For as stupid and empty as Trump is, that’s the most substantial replacement plan any Republican has ever offered.

Don’t believe Republicans in their campaign to retain the House. They gave a huge tax cut to the richest of Americans while trying to strip healthcare from the rest. Now, they’re talking about cutting Medicare and Social Security while campaigning that they’ll save healthcare and Democrats, who gave us a national healthcare plan, will take it away.

Republicans say Democrats don’t have a platform but ask one of them what they’ll replace Obamacare with. They’re running on a campaign of fear while hiding that they’re the ones we need to be afraid of.
