Drag Queens

Nashville School Shooting

Three students and three school staffers were murdered today in another American mass shooting, this time in Nashville, Tennessee. According to the Gun Violence Archive, this is the 129th mass shooting in the United States this year. That’s 129 mass shootings in the past three months, and we still have four more days before this month is over. Hell, the day’s not over. For one person at the scene, it was her second time witnessing a mass shooting. Only in the United States can a person be a witness to two mass shootings.

And this happened in Tennessee where out of “concern” for child safety, the Republican-controlled state legislature just banned public drag shows. Last year, they banned Critical Race Theory even though it didn’t exist in any schools in the state.

There have been no mass murders in schools or anywhere else in this nation by drag queens or Critical Race Theory. But school shootings happen. They happen a lot. So why is it so easy to ban drag shows and a black history course that doesn’t exist yet we can’t talk about gun control? Why can’t we talk about a ban on assault weapons?

Republicans became very comfortable with kids being murdered by assault rifles several years ago. Guns are more important to them than the lives of our children. So is homophobia and racism which is why they’re so eager to act against drag queens and black history which multiple states are now banning.

And the thing is, I’ve already written this blog. I’ve already drawn this cartoon. And I’m going to write it again and I’m going to draw it again. I’m tired of drawing dead bodies. And, a lot of Republicans are going to tell me “too soon” with this cartoon.

Within minutes of posting this cartoon on Twitter, a goon tweeted a meme at me about Nazis and gun bans. It’s “too soon” for me to talk about gun control on the day of a school shooting, but the goons can go ahead and lie about Nazis and gun bans.

So if the day of a mass shooting is “too soon,” when does “too soon” expire? When can I talk about gun control after a mass shooting? With 129 within three months, it better be a short window. There have been more mass shootings than days which would mean we can never talk about it.

Mass shootings have become a Republican industry.

Tennessee Drag

Republicans aren’t worried about our nation being attacked by Russia through our elections. They’re not worried about white nationalist terrorists who try to overturn an election and install a fascist Oompa Loompa as a dictator. They’re not worried about school shootings of which there have been at least seven of this year (96 mass shootings in total over the past two months). What they are afraid of are drag queens.

Over the past several months, Republicans have been on a warpath for drag queens. What did drag queens do? Did they engage in an information campaign to elect a racist lying pussy-grabbing grifting moron to the presidency? No, Russia did that. Did they commit an insurrection by attacking Congress and try to install the losing candidate? No, white nationalist MAGAts did that. Did they spend months lying and feeding mistrust in our democratic elections to the entire nation, saying that Trump won when he lost? No, Fox News did that. Did they steal classified documents and store them in the basement of a country club then obstruct justice and lie to the National Archives and Justice Department about it? No, Donald Trump did that. Did drag queens inflict this nation with Nickelback, Bryan Adams, Justin Beiber, and Avril Lavigne? No, Canada did that. Did a drag queen pad his resume and lie about everything on it in order to win an election to Congress? Well, yeah…one of them did that. But everything else, they’re innocent of.

Hell, they’re not even responsible for other plagues on this nation such as the Kars-4-Kids commercial or that other one that sings “I have a structured settlement but I need cash now.” The only phone number I have memorized is 877 cash now.

The truth is, drag queens haven’t hurt anyone but if you listen to Republicans, they’re an incarnate evil. Several states are attempting to pass laws limiting drag shows and Tennessee is about to become the first.

“Thinking about the children,” the yee-haw fuckers that Tennessee calls Republican state legislators passed a bill that nearly bans drag shows. Passed along party lines and referring to drag shows as “adult cabaret performances,” Republicans have basically banned drag shows on public property and made it a crime to perform in drag before a child.

State Senator Jack Johnson, whose name means masturbating a penis, said, “I am carrying the legislation to protect children from being exposed to sexually explicit drag shows that are inappropriate for minor audiences. It is similar to laws that prohibit children from going to a strip club.” But not all drag shows are sexually explicit. They’re usually exaggerated and silly, which Governor Bill Lee, who’s promised to sign the bill, should know…since he once dressed in…wait for it, yeah you see it coming…here it is…drag.

Back when he was in college, Governor Lee dressed in drag. A spokesgoon for Ms. Lee, I mean, Mr. Lee, said drag shows are “obscene sexualized entertainment” while what the governor was doing is “lighthearted school traditions.”

Hypocrisy is a Republican tradition.

But if drag shows are sexual and obscene and Republican college students in wings and dresses are lighthearted, then what was it when Rudy Giuliani dressed in drag so Donald Trump could hit on him?

I can not fathom any drag performance being as awkward and disturbing as Donald Trump sticking his face between Rudy Giuliani’s fake boobies and giving a big sniff. Yikes! My concern is that it was in public where children may have been present. Even adults shouldn’t be exposed to Trump motorboating Giuliani.

There are at least 14 yee-haw states looking to restrict or outright ban drag shows. In addition to Tennessee, there are legislative efforts being made in the red states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Florida, Texas, West Virginia, Nebraska, Idaho, Utah, Arkansas, Arizona, Afghanistan, Montana, and South Carolina. Guess how many fucknut red states are pushing legislation to protect schools from mass shootings?

If Republicans really care about children being exposed to inappropriate sexualized explicitness stuff, then they should outlaw children being taken to Hooters. Hooters is to strip clubs what Maxim Magazine is to Playboy, but with chicken wings. I took my son to Hooters on his 18th birthday because it’s my job as his father to embarrass him as much as possible, but you don’t take young kids to Hooters…except people do. They have a kids menu. On that menu are chicken tenders, sliders, buffalo shrimp, and boneless chicken wings. Now, there’s the outrage.

Forget drag shows. Tennessee Republicans should ban boneless chicken wings because they’re NOT chicken wings. That’s dishonest advertising. While they’re at it, they should ban burrito bowls and taco bowls because they’re not burritos or tacos. They’re bowls. I’m still mixed on whether or not hot dogs are sandwiches.

Republicans are also outraged about Drag Queen story hour, which isn’t that widespread but it’s not sexual or obscene at all, unless you think a guy in a dress is obscene. The biggest threat to Republicans from Drag Queen Story Hour is that it teaches kids to be tolerant and not to grow up and become homophobic Republican assholes.

Republicans behind the legislative efforts to ban drag shows say they’re not banning anything, but that’s a lie too. It’s a First Amendment violation. Let’s say you are a guy and you want to wear a dress. You’re gay or even a performer, you just choose to wear a dress. These states are outlawing that. They are telling you what you can and can’t wear in public. Wait for the first public protest against this bill in Tennessee where all the protesters are dudes in dresses. They won’t be performing but they will be breaking state laws.

Here’s how they should protest: Perform a public drag show and when the cops show up, tell them you’re female. Make them look. But maybe Tennessee will create a penis patrol unit (haha, unit) of the state police.

I believe in freedom. I believe in America. And if a man wants to wear a dress, I believe he shouldn’t be persecuted for it, whether by hate groups or the government (often the same thing). Every man should be free to wear a dress. Every man should be free to accessorize. Every man should be free to work it…just like Tennessee Governor Bill Lee.

Fun fact: I’ll be in Tennessee for a few days in a couple of weeks. I plan to wear pants.

Music note: I listened to Queen and honestly, that’s just a coincidence.

Dragging the Narrative

Republicans have this obsession with drag queens. They’re more afraid of drag queens attacking this nation than Russia’s disinformation campaign and Chinese spy balloons. I’m probably giving them an idea with this cartoon. At the very least, I bet we can convince Lauren Boebert it’s real.

The latest Republican outrage over drag queens comes to us from the state of, you guessed, Florida.

Florida’s fascist governor Ron DeSantis is trying to revoke the liquor license of the Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation. Why? Because he’s alleging the foundation violated Florida statutes on lewdness by holding a sexually explicit drag show in December in the presence of minors.

This is the second time he’s filed a complaint against a venue for hosting a drag show. Back in July, he went after a restaurant in Miami for hosting a drag show, claiming it was a “public nuisance.” Drag shows in Miami? Did nobody ever show this guy “The Birdcage?”

Who forced these minors to go to a drag show? Did drag queens run into the streets and kidnap them and then clamped their eyelids open à la “A Clockwork Orange” to watch men in dresses sing “Screwdolph the Red-Nippled Reindeer?” No, but I think we should do that to every Republican until they stop being so threatened by men in dresses.

The people who took children to these drag shows were their parents. Do you remember all that talk by Republicans that parents should be the ones to decide what type of education is good for their children? It’s the basis of DeSantis’ law “Don’t Say Gay” and his efforts to ban black history from being taught in the state.

I supposed only Republican parents know what’s best for their children and liberal parents shouldn’t have a say. What’s next? Will DeSantis report “woke” parents to child protection agencies? Will there be foster homes set up for kids taken away from their parents?

Maybe the government should decide what parents can’t allow their children to watch. When I was a teenager, my mom let me watch “Big Bad Mama” on HBO and I haven’t been right since. No child should have to see William Shatner in a sex scene.

The board of directors for the Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation told the Orlando Sentinel that the venue is a “welcoming and inclusive establishment that operates in good faith and compliance with all applicable laws. That includes respecting the rights of parents to decide what content is or is not appropriate for their own children.”

Why should Ron DeSantis be the authority on what’s lewd? What I find lewd is using refugees, human beings, as political pawns. What I find lewd is DeSantis’ racism. Why should Ron DeSantis be the authority on what’s best for other people’s children?

We haven’t seen an Italian be this much of a fascist since Benito Mussolini.

I’m really not that concerned about drag queens being a bad influence on our children. If I could survive Bugs Bunny’s multiple drag performances as a child, then today’s kids can get past Ru Paul. Just keep them away from William Shatner.

Music note: I listened to Fastway and Lifehouse

Great Scott!

During his State of the Union address this week, President Biden said, “Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset.” Republicans booed and heckled him for this comment. Some, specifically Marjorie Taylor Greene, howled “liar” at the president.

From there, the president pointed out that since they claim it’s not true, then cuts to Medicare and Social Security are “off the table.” You could see Kevin McCarthy sink lower in his chair.

Republicans are still livid over this because President Biden told the truth. Some Republicans have proposed “sunsetting” Medicare and Social Security.

What is “sunset” when it comes to government programs? It means that at a certain point in time, a government program has to be reauthorized by Congress. Florida Senator Rick Scott’s plan details that every federal legislation has to be voted on again after five years. That means Congress would have to vote on programs like Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act every five years.

If you think it’s bad now that we have to fight for the debt ceiling every year, wait until we have to campaign for Social Security every five years. Do you really feel it’s safe with a Republican majority if there’s a law stating they can get rid of it? And in a sunset, would the program be abolished if Congress doesn’t vote on it every five years?

So when President Biden said “some” Republicans want to sunset Medicare and Social Security, he was right. The hecklers are wrong. Maybe Republicans should actually read their own policy proposals.

Scott doubled down on his plan after the president’s speech, saying, “In my plan, I suggested the following: All federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. This is clearly and obviously an idea aimed at dealing with all the crazy new laws our Congress has been passing of late.” He claimed he wasn’t going after Medicare or Social Security and called the claim “a lie” and “a dishonest move … from a very confused president.”

No, President Biden is not confused because he read Scott’s plan. If anything, Scott is confused by claiming he’s not after those programs while plainly stating his proposal will sunset those programs. He claimed Biden was “twisting” his words and that it was really Democrats who wanted to cut benefits, not Republicans, even though it’s his 12-point plan to do so.

Man, Republicans really hate it when you point out facts…or quote them. President Biden said “some” Republicans, not all, are proposing to do away with Social Security and Medicare. Rick Scott is not the only one.

Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah said, “One thing that you probably haven’t ever heard from a politician: it will be my objective to phase out Social Security. To pull it up by the roots, and get rid of it.”

Republican Senator John Thune, the number two guy in GOP Senate leadership, said last November that Social Security and Medicare benefits should be slashed.

The Republican Study Committee, which includes a majority of House Republicans, released a formal budget including raising the eligibility ages for each program, along with withholding payments for individuals who retire early or had a certain income and privatizing funding for Social Security to lower income taxes.

In 2015, a majority of House Republicans, which included current Speaker Kevin McCarthy, voted to raise the retirement age to 70, which would cut Social Security benefits for tens of millions of seniors who paid into the system for years.

Former Vice President (sic) Mike Pence has suggested privatizing Social Security.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson doesn’t want to sunset Social Security and Medicare every five years. Nope. He wants to do it…wait for it…every year. He wants it to be an annual thing. Somehow despite this, Wisconsin reelected him last year.

Republican Lindsey Graham suggests raising the age to qualify for Social Security and Medicare.

Raising the age for qualifying for Social Security and Medicare does take benefits away from millions of Americans. The current retirement age is 66 for full benefits, but will eventually increase to 67. A lot of Republicans want to make it higher, like to 70. A lot of people won’t live to see 70 which means they’ll never collect Social Security which will make more money available for corporate welfare and tax cuts for billionaire assholes.

So, no. President Biden was NOT lying when he said there are some Republicans who want to take away Social Security and Medicare benefits from you. Republicans are lying when they say they’re not lying.

Republicans are all liars. It’s what they do. George Santos could tell you, except he’d be lying.

Dragging On Black History

Did you know that February is Black History Month? In the future, no one in Florida is going to know because its fascist governor Ron Scumface DeSantis is attempting to outlaw black history from being taught in public schools, and you know private schools in that state aren’t going to teach it.

Republicans are more concerned about protecting children from things that aren’t going to get them or don’t even exist at all.

Ron McRacist DeSantis says Florida is where “woke goes to die.” What the hell is “woke”? Basically, it’s having a social conscience and trying to understand situations you’ll never be in. It’s trying to understand prejudice, racism, discrimination, and sexism. If you’re a white person and you know you have white privilege then congratulations. You’re woke. Republicans use “woke” like they used to use the word “liberal,” as a bad word. A lot of Republicans still use “liberal” to attack someone but as more of the public has come to learn the definition of that word and realized that being liberal is a good thing, more and more Republicans are now starting to use “woke” to attack liberals, despite the fact that “woke” is also a good thing. Anyway, Ron DeSatan DeSantis is trying to outlaw “woke” in his state and protect children from having a social conscience.

He’s also trying to protect children from Mickey Mouse and has waged war with Disney which you would think is a dumb thing to do in Florida, but whatever. You do you, Ron DeScumbucket DeSantis.

Republicans are trying to protect children from drag queens unless that drag queen is George Santos. Yeah, that’s weird…and the GOP thinks drag queens are the weird ones.

Ron DeStupid DeSantis also tried to protect kids from science. What he was protecting was the coronavirus. Florida is where the coronavirus goes to thrive.

Ron DeHumanTrafficker DeSantis is trying to protect Florida’s school children from immigrants…in Texas.

And now, Ron DeShithead DeSantis is trying to protect children from history, specifically, black history. Why? Because learning black history might make a little white kid feel bad.

White conservatives who don’t believe white privilege, racism, or discrimination exist and don’t understand why Colin Kaepernick was kneeling shouldn’t be the ones restricting any history lessons.

Now when it comes to protecting children from gun violence, Republicans refuse to do anything except accept checks from the National GoStickItInYourAss Rifle Association.

Ron GoFuckYourself DeSantis is doing everything he can to turn his state into a fascist shithole, believing it’s his route to the presidency. Those who know history will be those who don’t vote for Ron DeIhaveLessCharmThanAhoneyBadgerWithAflamingHemorrhoid DeSantis.

Clubbing With Boebert

A gunman entered a Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ nightclub during a midnight drag show Saturday and murdered five people and injured over a dozen others. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of bias-motivated or hate crimes. He was injured when police made the arrest because he was taken down by a retired Army Major and Bronze Star recipient and a drag performer, and they beat his ass with his own gun, an AR-15-type assault rifle. This makes drag queens better at stopping mass shootings than Uvalde and Texas police.

Colorado representative Lauren Boebert tweeted, “The news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful. This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers. This lawless violence needs to end and end quickly.” She didn’t mention it happened at an LGBTQ+ club or during a drag show. Why is that? Because over the past several years, Boebert has been sharing her homophobia with the public and attacking LGBTQ+ people.

She has been criticized by watchdog groups for perpetuating false narratives about LGBTQ people and spreading inflammatory rhetoric online to her millions of followers.
She’s sponsored anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
She’s claimed trans people don’t exist.
She’s accused drag queens of being groomers.
When an anti-hate group ranked her Twitter account third in spreading lies about LGBTQ+ people being groomers, she vowed to step up her hate tweets to get a number-one ranking.
She’s tweeted that children should be taken to “church, not drag shows.”
She believes there should be a law making it illegal to decide your sexual preference before you’re 21, which means she’s a hypocrite or didn’t realize she was straight until she was 21.

If we ever do end this violence, as she demanded, it won’t end because of any help from her. She’s also a gun nut, consistently voting against measures to limit gun violence and mass shootings. One of her campaign commercials featured her smugly walking around the Capitol with a gun strapped to her hip. Until their landlord refused to renew their lease, Boebert and her husband, who likes to expose himself to teenage girls in bowling alleys, operated a gun-themed restaurant named Shooter’s Grill.

Boebert is a vile human being and one of the most disgusting in Congress with the likes of Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Louie Gohmert, Jim Jordan, and until he was defeated in a primary, Madison Cawthorn (who likes to dress in drag). She barely won reelection this month which is a damn shame.

Lauren Boebert is a stupid hateful homophobic Islamophobic racist so when she pretends to be sad over a shooting that targeted the same people she targets with hate tweets, she needs to be held accountable. Some people are calling her out and won’t let her get away with it.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted at her, “You have played a major role in elevating anti-LGBT+ hate rhetoric and anti-trans lies while spending your time in Congress blocking even the most common sense gun safety laws.” AOC told her, “You don’t get to ‘thoughts and prayers’ your way out of this. Look inward and change.”

Boebert will not change. She’s a rancid human being appealing to a rancid base of MAGAts. Hate, intolerance, and stupidity are her bread and butter.

AOC isn’t alone in calling Boebert out. Mondaire Jones, one of the few openly gay members of Congress, tweeted at Boebert, saying, “Your record is absolutely awful. You use hateful rhetoric towards the LGBTQ+ community and helped block even modest efforts to end gun violence.”

Representative Jamal Bowman tweeted, “Your rhetoric and lack of legislative courage and humanity radicalized people to do the evil and unthinkable.” Truly. You don’t see gay people attacking square dances and Cracker Barrels with AR-15s and hammers.

Colorado state Rep. Brianna Titone, the first transgender person elected to the state legislature, replied to Boebert Sunday morning, writing, “There’s blood on your hands. Thanks for the ‘thoughts and prayers’ but that does nothing to offset the damage that you directly did to incite these kinds of attacks on the LGBTQ+ community. You spreading tropes and insults contributed to the hatred for us. Just resign.”

I second that. Just resign, Boebert. It’s not like you have ever sponsored a bill that got through a single committee, less enough, passed into law. Taxpayers are paying you a six-figure salary for literally nothing unless you count hate and support of insurrections something.

I wanted to see how a few other goons were reacting to the shooting, so I checked in on my favorite MAGAt cartoonist who I use as a barometer for the current hateful snowflakey white victimization talking point (read the comments). And he does have some outrage that has to do with the LGBTQ+ community. No, he’s not upset over the shooting at a drag show. He’s upset that the U.S. soccer team has incorporated the rainbow flag as part of its crest on their uniforms during the World Cup tournament (and claiming the logo has replaced the U.S. flag, which it hasn’t). But the drag show, he hasn’t mentioned that.

Correction: I originally wrote that Richard Fierro was a retired Marine, but he was actually a major in the Army. Oops. Thanks for sending the correction, Bob. The person who helped the Army vet take down the shooter was not a drag performer but a trans woman (as I was just told by an editor of one of my client newspapers. He also informed me vet beat the shooter with his own pistol, not his rifle. The original details I wrote were what I got this morning. Sorry.

Fox News Story Time

The first of the live televised January 6 Committee hearings will air tonight at 8 p.m. You can watch it on CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS, C-Span, and even Fox Business. Fox News is sticking to its regular line up of Fucknut One at 8 p.m, Fucknut Two at 9 p.m, and Fucknut Three at 10 p.m.

Fox News does plan to cover the hearings during TuckerHannityIngraham time as “news warrants.” What that means is producers will be watching the hearings and writing material of it for the anchors to be outraged over on the air. Fox News will have a special on the hearings at 10 p.m. which will gaslight the hearings to their viewers who didn’t watch them.

Fox News will not air the hearings for three reasons. Reason one is that they get the highest ratings with their usual primetime lineup. Sure, it’s all white nationalist propaganda delivered by a bunch of lying bastards, but they get viewers. Sure, most of those viewers are Nazis, but Neilsen Ratings count Nazis. Nazis buy Balance of Nature and MyPillows.

The second reason they won’t air the hearings is that they can’t let their viewers make up their own minds. Fox News can’t let its viewers watch the facts play out. Fox News has to gaslight the issues for their viewers. If you’re a Cletus, it’s easier to be told what to think than it is to develop your own thoughts.

The third reason Fox News won’t air the hearings live is that it would probably piss off their white nationalist audience that’s mostly made of sycophantic MAGAts. Fox News doesn’t want to air evidence against Proud Boys and Oathkeepers when their audience consists of Proud Boys and Oathkeepers. Their viewers don’t want to spend two hours hearing how Trump is a traitor to the United States. They’ll change the channel to Newsmax or One American News before hearing that stuff. They would just stick their fingers in their ears and go “la la la la la” for two straight hours, but they’d forget the words. Cletus will send Ella-Mae on top of the trailer to rearrange the antennae. She doesn’t need shoes for that.

So what will Fox News talk about tonight? Maybe they’ll do a segment on how nobody should listen to a celebrity like Matthew McConaughey talk about politics right before they advertise Tucker’s upcoming special on Kid Rock (this is a real thing).

Maybe they’ll talk about the assistant principal fired in Mississippi for reading to children the book “I want a new butt.” Maybe they’ll talk about the most dangerous thing making its way into schools today and threatening children, Drag Queen Story Time.

They’ll probably talk about the migrant caravan heading this way through Mexico. Remember during the 2018 midterms when it was all Fox News and Trump would talk about? They claimed George Soros was funding it. It was the most dangerous threat to this nation since Obama’s tan suit. It was so dangerous that Fox News stopped talking about it the day after the election.

The surest bet is that Fox News will do tonight what they do every night, and that is deliver propaganda over news.

Most news outlets are businesses that seek profits, but most of them understand they still have to be responsible to the public. Fox News does not get that. So while airing the hearings would be the responsible thing to do, Fox News would rather go with its usual lineup and continue selling advertising for the evening. But even worse, they’re not going to let their viewers see the proceedings but will later gaslight it all to them. And it’s mostly for entertainment.

Instead of showing two hours of evidence that Donald Trump tried to destroy our democracy, Fox News would rather show their viewers two hours of MyPillow and gold coins commercials.

Music note: I listened to Queen, not because of the issue here, but because they rock. However, when I first started drawing this, I got Cher songs in my head.
