DeSantis

Tucker And The Pussycats

Today’s Comic Strip of the Day features a cartoon by Mike Beckom, who is a gaslighting MAGAt lacking critical thinking skills. His cartoon is a response to the revelation that Fox News knowingly lied to their viewers and presented The Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election, it was stolen from him, and there was massive election fraud. The cartoon uses the tired cliché of the pot calling the kettle black, with the pots being MSNBC and CNN and the kettle being poor widdle innocent Fox News. The author of the blog, Mike Peterson, posted the cartoon in order to shoot it down, writing, “Nobody has produced any emails in which MSNBC or CNN declare, as Fox did, their intention of lying in order to preserve their ratings and stock prices.”

It’s a shame there can’t be fact-checks on the publication of every right-wing political cartoon.

I’ve seen Beckom’s argument posted by other righties, that CNN and MSNBC do the same thing Fox News does, knowingly lie to their viewers…except there’s no actual proof of it. The reason there’s no proof of it is that legitimate news outlets don’t knowingly lie to their viewers. The thing that bothers me with this is what bothers me with all conservatives in that they don’t base their opinions on facts, but then again…if you’re only watching Fox News, you won’t know the facts.

If you only watch Fox News then you are probably not at all aware that the Dominion lawsuit produced emails and texts between executives and hosts at Fox News revealing that they knew they were lying…and did so in order not to lose their viewers and to keep their stock prices up. There is not a text message in public of a host at CNN or MSNBC demanding that a fact-checker be fired, but there’s one of Tucker Carlson doing it.

So the same people who don’t know that Tucker Carlson knowingly lies to them probably watched him air footage last night gained from Speaker Kevin McCarthy of the Jan. 6 white nationalist insurrection, and calling it a “peaceful gathering.”

Tucker said, “The footage does not show an insurrection or a riot in progress. Instead, it shows police escorting people through the building.” This is cherry-picking. Tucker said the rioters were ” peaceful sightseers,” not “insurrectionists.”

This is why everyone was against Kevin McCarthy giving the unseen footage to Tucker because he would use it to create a lying narrative. I watched the attack live on January 6, 2020, and what I saw was an insurrection and riot committed by a bunch of white nationalist MAGAts. What I saw was a coup.

When McCarthy was struggling to become Speaker, losing vote after vote, Tucker said on his show, after the third loss, “First, release the January 6 files. Not some of the January 6 files and video… all of it… so that the rest of us can finally know what actually happened on January 6, 2021.” Tucker receiving this footage was part of the deal McCarthy made to become Speaker…that and giving Matt Gaetz foot massages every Tuesday.

McCarthy was fine with giving this footage to a liar who’d use it to harm the country. McCarthy doesn’t care how much damage this does to the nation, just so long as he has political power.

Now in Florida, where most bullshit happens, the legislature is about to begin its next session, and among the many dozens of bills to make DeSantis state emperor is one mandating that public schools and universities only teach the “right” history. You know, no black history. No history that can make a white kid feel guilty about the actions of white people in the past.

The party that wants to legislate how history from decades and centuries ago is taught is led by Tucker, who reconstructs recent history. These people can’t even get the history from last week right, and they want to mandate how the history of slavery and the civil rights era are taught.

If you want to learn history, don’t go to school in Florida… and don’t watch Fox News.

Something To Smite About

I am so looking forward to the impending Trump/DeSantis war. DeSantis is trying to blow off Trump’s attacks as just “noise” because he knows it’s too early to attack Trump. Nobody but Trump needs to start officially running for president right now. DeSantis and everyone else can wait about a year before creating official campaigns. DeSantis is exhibiting just how better disciplined he is than Trump by holding off for now, but the time will come when DeSantis will have to run against Donald Trump, and that will require attacking him.

Donald Trump is a god for the Republican base and they have become a cult. DeSantis is very popular with the same base, but how will the cult respond when DeSantis attacks their deity? I hope he goes the Marco Rubio route and tells them Trump has a tiny penis.

That’s it for today’s blog, kids. It’s Sunday and I spent about six hours on this cartoon. I’m flying back to the east coast in the morning and I have a lot to do before that. Later.

Get Your Popcorn

The popcorn imagery is a bit old and a cliché in political cartoons, but I couldn’t resist this image. It’s another idea I came up with the night before and that woke me up this morning as even in my sleep, my brain was trying to figure out how to put it together. I have a weird brain.

The thing I love about this is that Democrats are going to get their popcorn and relish the fight between Trump and DeSantis. The only way it’s not going to happen is if one of these racist walking turds chooses not to run for president, so yeah. It’s happening. These egos will collide.

Let’s compare the two men.

On Tuesday night, DeSantis won his reelection and he won big. He won Miami-Dade County, being the first Republican to do so since 2002. Republicans won all the cabinet positions in the state and now have a supermajority in the legislature. Their representation in congress, formerly a 16-11 advantage over Democrats, is now 20-8. Florida is moving further to the right but keep in mind that the state was awarded two new congressional districts from the 2020 census and DeSantis personally rewrote the congressional district map, which a right-wing court went to sleep on. Also, keep in mind that DeSantis’ opponent in his race was the most boring man the Democratic Party could find. It’s almost like they sent Terry McAuliffe down to Florida to run against him, but he looked a lot like Charlie Crist.

But Florida is turning into a fascist Republic that DeSantis says is “where woke goes to die.”

Republicans nationwide are starting to gravitate toward DeSantis. The Facebook page of the right-wing goon cartoonist that I use as a barometer of Republican vile and awfulness posted praise of DeSantis’ “woke” comment and added, “boom,” not really understanding how “boom” is supposed to work. He also added a bit about Florida being for freedom lovers or some shit like that even though he lives in the midwest. But if Florida is where woke goes to die, isn’t that killing freedom? If you understand what woke is, yes. It’s killing freedom.

But, that’s exactly what MAGAts want. Is DeSantis better at MAGAing than Trump?

When you look at the results from Tuesday, DeSantis is the big winner and Trump is the biggest loser. Most of Trump’s candidates lost on Tuesday. So who’s a better choice for MAGA in 2024.

Both men are vile, racist, sexist, homophobic, and just truly deplorable slimy lying human beings. Both men dream of being fascist dictators. But, DeSantis wins and has more discipline. Does this make him the favorite? No, because Republicans are stupid sycophants.

DeSantis is the better choice for the Republican Party over the guy who lost the popular vote in 2016 and 2020 and also lost midterms in 2018 and watched most of his personally-picked goons goes down in 2022. DeSantis has the difficult task before him of convincing sycophants to change their idol worship from Trump to him. Trump doesn’t really have accomplishments or policy positions he can explain, while DeSantis does, but that’s not what the MAGA base wants. The MAGA base wants racist simplistic rhetoric without details, which is where Trump shines. The base never did question while chanting “build the wall” exactly how Trump was going to get Mexico to pay for that wall. They didn’t even ask questions when Trump started to make them pay for it. They don’t even ask questions when a con man gets indicted for swindling them in a build-the-wall pyramid scheme. DeSantis may have to get dumber to win MAGA over Trump.

DeSantis has about a year and a half to do this. He has to beat Trump by being the most racist godawful simplistic goon possible, then run to the center after the primaries because we learned Tuesday night that the majority of America doesn’t want to vote for assholes. Unfortunately for DeSantis, like Trump, he is a HUGE asshole.

What this means for the rest of us… we have to stock up on popcorn. I’m gonna do a mix of movie theater butter and kettle. What’s your popcorn poison?

Why Can’t We Be Friends?

Here’s your cartoon for this week’s CNN Opinion newsletter. Please sign up to get these in your inbox every Sunday

Here’s a prediction: When Ron DeSantis runs for president, he will return to wailing about big government spending and accuse President Biden of being a socialist who believes throwing money at problems is the answer, forgetting how he requested billions from Biden in hurricane relief.

Actually, he won’t forget. He’ll just neglect to mention it because Ron DeSantis is a cheap lying goon.

These are the lines DeSantis will have to tread. One line will be what a great governor he is and how well he handled the hurricane and rebuilt the disaster areas, while not mentioning he did it with federal funding provided by President Joe Biden. When Ron DeSantis was a congressman, he opposed federal hurricane relief when Hurricane Sandy hit New York and New Jersey.

Golly gee willikers, I sure do hope Ron DeSantis is comfortable being a lying hypocrite. Good news, kids! He is.

Trump Booster For DeSantis

CjonesRGB01212022

Donald Trump is mad. Sure, he’s always mad, but this occasion is interesting.

We’ve seen Trump hate on Republicans before. He’s had horrible things to say about John McCain, George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, Jeb Bush (he hates Bushes), Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, and all Republicans who don’t kiss his ass.

During the 2016 Republican primaries, he attacked all the Republicans running against him. He said Rick Perry should have to take an IQ test to qualify for the debates. He attacked Ben Carson, insinuating he had a pathological disease that made him lose his temper and try to stab people. He called Bobby Jindal a “lightweight,” and Jindal responded by saying Trump is a “substance-free narcissist who looks like he’s got a squirrel sitting on his head.” He called Marco Rubio “Little Marco.” He gave out Lindsey Graham’s phone number at a rally. Trump called Rand Paul a “fake conservative” who is “truly weird,” and a “spoiled brat without a properly functioning brain.” He insulted Carly Fiorina’s looks by saying, “Look at that face.” He said Jeb Bush had “low energy.” He attacked the looks of Ted Cruz’s wife, suggested his father had a part in killing John F. Kennedy, and called Ted “Lyin’ Ted.”

Excluding John Kasich and Jeb Bush, most of those people Trump attacked became his ass kissers and sycophants. It’s weird. But now, instead of turning enemies into friends, Trump is about to turn a sycophant into an enemy. Trump is threatened by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Ron DeSantis is a horrible right-wing goon of a governor. He’s anti-mandates. He’s anti-face masks. He’s anti-science. He loves the racist dog whistles. He signed a bill live on Fox News that makes it legal to run over Black Lives Matter protesters. The racists love him. When he ran for governor, he aired ads telling assuring voters he was a huge Trumper and no one in Florida was a bigger MAGAt then he. He was even teaching his baby how to “build a wall” out of Legos in the ad. It was sick.

Trump is upset that DeSantis won’t publicly bow down before him. DeSantis is a presidential hopeful and he’ll run for the office someday. Trump is concerned it’ll be in 2024. Trump hasn’t declared yet but he wants DeSantis to declare he won’t run if Trump does.

It’s very early for this kind of stuff, but Trump is polling way ahead of DeSantis, but being the insecure baby that he is, Trump is scared.

Axios published a story saying Trump is privately telling people at Mar-a-Lago that DeSantis is “dull” and lacking in “personal charisma.” The story made its way to the Drudge Report. Before you know it, it’ll be on Fox News. It’s already on One America News Network but nobody watches that.

Trump has publicly admitted he received a booster to the coronavirus and attacked “gutless” politicians who won’t reveal their booster status. Keep in mind, Trump refused to do a public service announcement or have his vaccine injected on camera because he puts himself before the rest of the nation. While talking to One America News Network, he said, “You got to say it. Whether you had it or not, say it.” It was a swipe at DeSantis who has not “said it” and won’t say he won’t run for president if Trump runs.

During an interview on a right-wing fucknut podcast, DeSantis said he regretted not pushing back more aggressively when Trump advised Americans to stay home in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. He didn’t mention Trump by name, but who else was president (sic) in 2020?

DeSantis then blamed Dr. Anthony Fauci for convincing Trump to lock down the nation, which is framing Trump as a baby who can’t make his own decisions.

A lot of Republicans, including DeSantis, claim the media is inventing this feud and for us not to “take the bait.” But if there is a real feud, we’ll know it soon enough because Donald Trump is not good at keeping things to himself. Personally, I’m looking forward to this and will be stocking up on popcorn.

DeSantis is Trump’s Mini-Me. I don’t know if anyone has kissed Trump’s ass more than he has, other than Mike Pence and all those Republicans I mentioned above who were Trump’s targets in 2016.

If Trump and DeSantis engage in a contest of who’s more MAGA or better for the nation, my concern is which one is worse for the nation. They’re both horrible vile human-being-type things.

Maybe Florida can’t, but America can do better than what the cult gives us.

DeSantis Deflections

Cjones08062021

President Joe Biden brought out a harsher tone to Republican governors who are doing everything they can to help spread the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

President Biden said, “Some state officials are passing laws that forbid people from doing the right thing. I say to the governors, please help. If you’re not going to help, get out of the way of the people that are trying to do the right thing. Use your power to save lives.”

It’s true Florida’s Ron DeSantis and Texas’ Greg Abbott are implementing rules forbidding local governments, hospitals, clinics, businesses, and schools from enacting measures to prevent the spread of the virus. DeSantis got upset over Biden’s remarks.

Refusing to use the title of “President” while attacking President Biden, DeSantis said, “Why don’t you get this border secure, and until you do that, I don’t want to hear a blip about COVID from you.”

On Fox News, he told Laura Ingraham, “He is lecturing people about imposing covid restrictions and lockdowns and not only doing nothing to stop the border surge but actually facilitating it on the other hand, he just loses all credibility when it comes to covid.”

DeSantis should know a lot about “facilitating” covid. He signed an executive order barring schools from mandating face masks. He’s refused to mandate all state employees to get vaccinated.

With more than 11,500 hospitalizations reported Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Florida is the most contagious state in the nation, accounting for 20 percent of the country’s total infection rate. Over the past three days, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that the state has had more than 50,000 new infections and 100 deaths.

DeSantis’ strategy for this has to been to attack Dr. Anthony Fauci, the media, and President Biden. His attacks on the president about the border is a deflection unless he can provide facts on how illegal immigration has affected the spike of covid cases in Florida. Maybe until he gets that number, we shouldn’t want to hear “blip” from him about the border.

DeSantis said President Biden is “bringing in people from over 100 different countries across the southern border.” President Biden is not “bringing in” people. And can DeSantis name all these nations, over 100, he’s claiming the president is bringing people in from? DeSantis is playing the Trump card by refusing to use the president’s title, playing the race card, and lying his DeBalls off.

Ron DeSantis is a racist liar and he’s continuing to politicize the virus which is leading to thousands of deaths in his state. DeSantis learned nothing from watching Donald Trump politicize the virus while watching his constituents die…except that it plays well with the Fox News base.

South Carolina’s governor, Henry McFucknut…I’m sorry, Henry McMaster, responded to the president in a tweet, saying, “Every day, illegal immigrants, drug dealers and sex traffickers enter the USA undocumented, unvaccinated, and untouched. Yet American citizens wouldn’t make it into an airport like that.” That’s another racist deflection that has very littl, if anything, to do with the increase in coronavirus cases. Sure, drug dealers and sex traffickers are bad, but what does that have to do with covid in South Carolina? Pot holes are bad too, but filling them isn’t going to cure covid. What will help get rid of covid are face masks, which have been proven to be effective.

Seven states, all red, have banned mask mandates. Those states are Iowa, Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina. Guess where the virus is increasing the most. Red states.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration is considering vaccinating all members of the United States military, which is long overdue. In New York City, Mayor Bill DeBlasio has implemented vaccine mandates.

In late July, he ordered a vaccine mandate for hospital employees and other health facilities. Immediately, vaccinations in the city increased. He then ordered all 340,000 city employees to be vaccinated. The vaccination rate continued to rise. On Tuesday, Mayor de Blasio announced that residents and visitors over the age of 12 must show proof of vaccination to enter restaurants, bars, gyms, and movie theaters, either by showing their vaccination card or through the pending “Key to NYC Pass” mobile vaccine passport.

If you want to live a normal life and go out, and not be tested constantly by having an extremely long Q-tip rammed up your nose to tickle your brain, you’ll get vaccinated. That alone would be incentive enough for me, but in New York City, they’re also offering $100 to get vaccinated.

I didn’t feel either of the two shots I got to be vaccinated. What I did feel was the long swab going up my nose. Trust me on this, you want the needle, not the swab.

I’m all for these mandates. Let’s go ahead and mandate face masks again. It’s the conservatives’ fault anyway. Let’s mandate vaccines. Of course, you don’t have to get one, but if you want to go to Cheesecake or Cracker Barrel, you’ll get vaccinated. Let’s implement a system of vaccine passports. None of this is fascism or communism. It’s no more tyrannical than say, I don’t know….voter IDs.

Ron DeSantis is playing to the Trump crowd and to Trump himself by refusing to help save lives in his state. He’s also playing to Trump by refusing to call President Biden “President.” DeSantis is running for reelection and after that, if Donald Trump says it’s OK, DeSantis will run for president. He needs to be run out of the country.

DeSantis is deflecting while people die. Deflection is a GOP strategy preferred over acknowledging facts and problems. DeSantis is shouting “squirrel.” Meanwhile in Florida, people are still dying.
