Refugees

Thoughts and Prayers and Deportations

The thing about most Republicans is that they’re vile, despicable, horrible, and deplorable creatures whose first thought when something terrible happens is to say something terrible. But what sort of compassion would you expect from someone who uses the most vulnerable people in our society as political props?

Francisco Oropesa murdered five of his neighbors in Cleveland, Texas last week with an AK-47 after one of them asked him to stop firing shots in his yard because their baby was trying to sleep. Oropesa is currently a fugitive.

In a statement released Sunday night, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a $50,000 reward for information that would lead to capturing the fugitive, who Abbott said was “in the country illegally and killed five illegal immigrants.”

What Abbott did that’s horrible, this time, was focus on the legal status of the victims. He didn’t even have confirmation on their legal status and it appears that at least one is a legal resident. But ya know what? None of that matters.

Other Republicans are blaming “open borders” and our immigration system for the murder while ignoring how easy it was for someone who was probably in the country illegally to obtain an assault rifle.

Nobody should be murdered or be a victim of another mass shooting, whether they’re a citizen, an immigrant, or even in the nation illegally.

When the Uvalde shooting happened, Abbott initially praised the police, who waited outside while children were being murdered. He later blamed others for the information he had received. After calling murder victims “illegal immigrants,” Abbott again blamed others for the information he had received. Greg Abbott isn’t big on taking responsibility except for deporting refugees to blue cities like Chicago for political stunts.

But even if Abbott had confirmation that each of these victims was in the country illegally, he still shouldn’t have used the term “illegal immigrant.” His back peddling over using the term doesn’t grasp that. Even the legal status of the gunman isn’t important right now. What is important is catching the killer and then doing something so that people like him don’t acquire assault weapons.

Abbott was condemned widely for his insensitive comments.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa said in a statement, “There is no limit to the depravity of Greg Abbott and his Texas Republican cronies. To use a mass shooting, in which five innocent souls were slaughtered execution-style – including an 8-year-old – to fearmonger and lie about migrants and the victims’ immigration status … this type of sick behavior is truly beyond the pale.”

Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter was a victim of the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting, didn’t hold back and tweeted to Abbott, “you are a low life asshole. This shooting has nothing to do with immigration status and much to do with your policies. On behalf of those like my daughter who are victims of gun violence, FUCK YOU!!!”

The term “illegal immigrant” should never be used in any situation. It implies guilt before a verdict, dehumanizes and scapegoats people, is racist, and being in the nation is a civil offense, not a criminal one. It’s mostly used as a political term to rile up white people.

One of the victims was a child. San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said, “My heart is with this 8-year-old little boy. I don’t care if he was here legally. I don’t care if he was here illegally. He was in my county. Five people died in my county, and that is where my heart is — in my county, protecting my people to the best of our ability.”

Governor Greg Abbott should have said something like that, but honestly…he’s not capable. Not only can’t he express genuine sympathy without being vile, but he’s not even capable of hiring someone to do it for him. You would think that one person on his staff would have said before the statement was released, “Hey, maybe we don’t use the racist term today.”

But how genuine can your sympathy really be toward individuals that if you had the chance beforehand, you would have just deported to Chicago as a political stunt to own the libs and play to your racist yee-haw base? I’m with Fred Guttenberg. Fuck you, Abbott.

Foster The Sheeple

This cartoon may go over a few heads. I accept it may be too subtle but I also know that a lot of people don’t really understand Title 42. I hate to explain cartoons because they should be able to stand on their own, but I’ll make a bit of an exception today.

The Trump administration enacted Title 42 to expel migrants and prevent refugees from being able to even apply for asylum. The Biden administration has vowed to end it and enact a more humane policy, and it was set to expire last week…until Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts placed a stay on it. I still don’t understand how one member of the Supreme Court can do that without a vote.

Republicans, MAGAts, and horrible vile people in general love Title 42, and they’re all playing Chicken Little over the potential ending of it, predicting doom and gloom for this nation without it. But what exactly is Title 42?

It’s not a new policy. Donald Trump and Stephen Baby Goebbels Miller didn’t create it. It’s a clause of the 1944 Public Health Services Law that “allows the government to prevent the introduction of individuals during certain public health emergencies.” In case someone hit you really hard in the head recently, we just had a public health emergency. And the Trump administration used the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to kick out migrants without giving them a chance to apply for asylum. They used it to hide the real reason they didn’t want brown people coming here from, as Trump termed it, “shithole countries.” The real reason is that Donald Trump is a racist. So is Stephen Miller who is now the head of a legal organization for white nationalists. If someone steps on your white privilege, Baby Goebbels will sue them for you. I’m not making this up.

Federal law states that any non-citizen within the United States can make a claim for asylum.

So Trump and his goons, like Baby Goebbels, enacted Title 42 over concerns about people entering this nation and further spreading the coronavirus, yet Trump and his goons played down the pandemic.

Donald Trump told us in 2020, “We have it totally under control” and that it was “one person coming in from China.” He told us in February 2020 that it would “magically go away” by April 2020. When there were only 15 known cases in the country, Trump told us, “Within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero” and, “That’s a pretty good job we’ve done.” Before February 2020 was over, he said, “It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.” He proposed fake cures and conspiracy theories and didn’t really seem to understand the seriousness of Covid-19 until he caught it, which was because he ignored safety protocols in the White House.

During the pandemic, it would have been healthier to lick stripper poles over visiting the Trump White House.

Trump also claimed that Democrats were “politicizing” the virus…the same virus he said would disappear yet used to enact a policy to expel refugees.

Breaking it down, Donald Trump told America not to worry about the virus, that it was being politicized by his enemies, yet used it to expel non-citizens from Latin America.

This brings us to the present, where the same people who waged war against science, face masks, vaccines, social distancing, and every other safety measure, claiming they were all hoaxes and vilified the scientists like Dr. Anthony Fauci for trying to save this nation from the coronavirus pandemic, are all howling to preserve Title 42, which is still in effect because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Their argument is: The virus isn’t a threat anymore but let’s keep a policy in place to expel brown people so they don’t give us the virus.

The people who support preserving Title 42 aren’t even using the pandemic in their arguments. But you can’t keep Title 42 in effect if there’s not a public health concern from the virus. Even the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court should be able to understand that.

The fact Republicans are worried that lifting Title 42 will create a disaster on the border as migrants enter the nation also destroys their argument that we have open borders. If we have open borders, then why are migrants on the other side of it waiting for us to lift Title 42?

Immigration is a complicated issue but Republican arguments against it are not. Immigrants give more to this nation than they take. Let them in. Lift Title 42. Sure, let’s provide more assistance to our border states to deal with immigration, but let’s stop using outdated health policies to disguise Republican racism. And while we’re at it, let’s press criminal charges against those GOP governors who keep sending migrants to other states for political stunts.

Something else I find amusing is how Republicans and MAGAts still react to people wearing face masks. At the start of the pandemic, they didn’t want to wear face masks and they argued it was fine if you wanted to wear them, but forcing them to wear one in public or in a private business they didn’t own was an assault on their freedom. Now, they attack my freedom to wear a face mask.

I’m wearing a face mask in my profile pics on Truth Social and Instagram and it really triggers the MAGAts, even though my wearing a mask doesn’t affect them at all. I even got called a “sheeple” a few days ago on Truth Social even though the word is plural and I’m just one person. A few months ago, I even got a “let’s go, Brandon” on a public bus for wearing a face mask.

Here’s the thing, goons… If you’re going to scream at me for wearing a face mask, shouting, “Let’s go, Brandon,” and calling me a “sheeple,” then you gotta also be against Title 42.

Music note: I listened to a mix that included Foster the People, Gorillaz, The Killers, The Cars, and The Hives.

Happy Birthday, Jesus

Another thing I find revolting about Republicans is that they spend the entire year being as vile as humanly possible, and then on Christmas and Easter, they’re all about Jesus.

I scrolled through Twitter yesterday and saw posts from the most despicable, like Lauren Boebert, Ted Cruz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Matt Gaetz praising Jesus and celebrating Christmas, after spending an entire year lying their gaslighting balls off and wishing evil shit on people.

But none of those goons have the power to be as evil as Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, or Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Each of these men was or is presently in an executive position where he can order government agencies to hurt people. And they do it for their own political fortunes.

Trump made it a policy to separate families and put children in cages. DeSantis went out of his way to deport refugees, not from the state he’s actually governor of, but from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard. Trust me, Ron…Texas has enough assholes that it doesn’t need your efforts, case in point…Greg Abbott. Abbott started the Republican trend of shipping migrants and refugees to sanctuary cities, but what he did over the past weekend might be the evilest thing he’s done so far.

On Christmas day, Greg Abbott tweeted a photo of himself and his beautiful family saying “From our family to yours, Merry Christmas.” He also tweeted, “May the hopeful promise of our Savior’s birth bring comfort & joy to you & your family.” He and his family looked warm and cozy in that photo.

But a few hours before that tweet, buses from Texas with 130 refugees, many dressed in only T-shirts, were dropped off in front of the vice president’s residence in Washington, D.C. in sub-zero conditions without any advance notice.

I’m not a Jesus expert and I don’t claim to be a Christian so I can’t tell you what Jesus would do, but he wouldn’t do this.

Officials in New York City received an advance warning these refugees were coming, and that might be why they were re-routed to D.C. Republicans have to make these stunts as cruel as possible.

White House spokesperson Abdullah Hasan accused Abbott of having “abandoned children on the side of the road in below-freezing temperatures” on Christmas Eve without coordinating with any federal or local authorities. You can’t claim this is to help people when you don’t give any advance notification. You also can’t claim it’s to help them when you kick them out of the bus in these temperatures and then abandon them.

There are fair points to the arguments that border states carry an unfair burden in dealing with immigration, and they do deserve more support from the federal government, but this isn’t a solution. There are other ways to make that point than being cruel to the most vulnerable…but maybe the point is to be cruel. Republicans love that shit. Abbott won re-election last month with nearly 55 percent of the vote from Texans. The majority of Texans are all about yee-hawing this sort of cruelty.

Responding to Abbott’s Christmas day tweet, Jon B. Wolfsthal, a senior adviser at Global Zero and ex-adviser to then-Vice President Biden, tweeted: “Did you tweet this before or after you shipped 130 migrants to DC with no extra clothes on the coldest night of the year—which also happened to be Christmas?”

Photojournalist Paul Gillespie replied to Abbott’s Christmas post, tweeting, “Dude, really? You just sent three bus loads of would be Mary and Joseph’s from TX to NY on 9 degree Christmas eve. You all got to stop playing the Christian card. You go against everything he preached. At least the inn keeper let them stay in the manger.”

One user on Twitter posted, “There’s nothing Christian or loving about stunts like this, Greg. In fact, it’s more like Herod than anything else in the Christmas story. I feel sick.”

Amy Fischer, an organizer with The Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, said, “It really does show the cruelty behind Governor Abbott and his insistence on continuing to bus people here without care about people arriving late at night on Christmas Eve when the weather is so cold. People are getting off the buses, they don’t have coats, they don’t have clothes for this kind of weather, and they’re freezing.”

Living in the Washington area, I can assure you it was freezing and painfully cold on Christmas Eve. The temps weren’t just in the teens and below, it was windy. I walked to a party Friday night and the conditions were physically painful.

Greg Abbott and other Republicans are trying to make a point about immigration, but the only point they’re making is that they’re assholes. And that may be the point they’re really trying to prove because their base loves it. But I bet Jesus doesn’t.

You can’t convince people you’re a Christian or love the messages of Jesus when you’re hurting the most vulnerable for a political stunt.

1 John 3:17 says, “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” God’s love doesn’t abide in the hearts of Republicans, but they do like to tweet photos pretending it does.

And you don’t own the libs by being an asshole.

Another Border Crisis

CjonesRGB11182021

If the first thing you were concerned over upon hearing about the migration crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland, then your priorities are messed up. Oil before humanity, right?

This crisis began over the summer when Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko threatened to bring in human traffickers, drug smugglers, and armed migrants into his nation to cross into European Union nations. Democratic nations in the west have been at odds with Lukashenko over his fraudulent election (the kind Trump hopes for), the crackdown against protesters, the forced-landing of Ryanair 4978 to capture a Lukashenko critic, and the attempted forced repatriation of Belarusian Olympic sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya.

Lukashenko started advertising in Asia and Africa that people who needed to flee their home nations were welcome to pass through Belarus (nobody wants to immigrate to Belarus. Ask Krystsina) and into western Europe. Airlines in the Middle East increased their flights to Belarus, offered discounts and Belarusian visas. Several social media pages started providing false information on how to cross over the border from Belarus and into Poland.

After the immigrants arrived in Belarus, they were provided with axes and wire cutters to cross the border. When they arrived at the border, they discovered Poland didn’t want them and turned them around and back in to Belarus, although about 800 were able to pass through by evading authorities. For those who were not able to pass through, Belarus prevented Poland from providing the refugees with tents and blankets. As an incentive for the migrants to try again to enter Poland, Belarusian soldiers started beating them.

This is kinda like the Mariel Boatlift in 1980 when Fidel Castro “humanely” allowed Cubans to leave and paddle the 90 or miles to the United States. Among the 125,000 Cubans, and 25,000 Haitians who pretended to be Cubans (Reagan would only take Cubans, not Haitians), were some of the worst criminals Cuba had to offer. Most of the people Castro considered criminals were guilty of stuff like selling radios on the black market (here in the U.S, it’s more of an assault to force somebody to listen to pop radio). But the media in southern Florida identified at least 2,700 as “hardened” criminals. We’re talking Scarface here. This is what Lukashenko is hoping to do to the EU…give them Scarface. Lukashenko is a cockaroach.

The nations that border Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, have accused Lukashenko of using the migrants as weapons to attack the European Union. Most of these immigrants are trying to get to Germany, where people are civil. In Poland and Belarus, the people are more like Trumpers. In fact, the three border nations have decided to build a wall on the border with Belarus with the European Union’s support.

Belarus and Lukashenko suck, but Poland sucks too. Poland has refused asylum to immigrants who have entered its nation. They’ve also refused access to the media, doctors, and non-government organizations like the Red Cross. Yesterday, Polish border guards shot tear gas and water cannons at the migrants. Apparently, Poland has made Stephen Miller their new border czar.

Lukashenko is a monster and the true victims here are the refugees he created in order to use them as weapons. Here in the United States, we may not pay much attention to it since it’s not in the United States. And if gas prices do increase because of this, as Lukashenko may shut off pipelines from Russia to the European Union, we’ll probably blame President Biden.

The real victims in this aren’t the people paying higher gas prices, but the refugees being weaponized. And if your first concern was your gas tank, you need to check your heart and your head, because you’re a cockaroach.

Biden’s Miller Time

Cjones09292021

The reason the number of immigrants and refugees crashing our border increased after Donald Trump was kicked out of office by a free and fair democratic election is because Donald Trump was kicked out of office.

President Joe Biden promised a more humane and tolerant immigration policy that inspired thousands of immigrants, making them believe the door was now open. And while separating families is no longer official government policy, a lot of the Trump policies have remained in place, like child detainment.

Biden’s messaging to the world was a little messed up. He promised a more human treatment of refugees yet has continued a lot of Trumpian policies. We are still detaining children. We are still deporting refugees without allowing them to legally seek asylum. The rule Joe Biden is using to deport Haitians who haven’t been in Haiti for over a decade, back to Haiti, was designed by Stephen Miller.

Stephen Miller used his position as senior adviser in the Trump administration to push a racist xenophobic agenda that broke down and backlogged the asylum system. The Muslim ban was a favorite of the administration.

According to CNN, during a 2018 meeting in the White House, Miller asked the room, “What do you guys want? A bunch of Iraqs and ‘Stans across the country?” If you think the withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disaster, thank Trump for negotiating it with the Taliban and Stephen Miller for the backlog of Afghanis who helped U.S. forces. Or as Miller would call them, “Stans.”

Biden wasn’t ready for the border crisis. This is obvious. But maybe we stop using policies created by xenophobic creepazoid racists.

Gabba Gabba Haiti

Cjones09222021

Thousands of Haitians have come to the United States border seeking a better life for themselves and their children. They heard it was easier to cross the border now that Joe Biden is president and the racist guy was thrown out of office after being defeated in the 2020 presidential election. They were wrong.

Yes, the new guy is much better than the previous guy, but the new guy is still using policies enacted by the old guy. The United States of America should not be implementing a policy crafted by the xenophobic Stephen Baby Goebbels Miller. Policies like that should be trashed and sent to the worst place in the world, which is probably Haiti..or Indiana. Instead, we are sending the Haitians at our border back to Haiti.

Sure, they’re from Haiti but most of them haven’t been in Haiti for over a decade. I’m from Louisiana (mostly) and I haven’t been back there in nearly two decades. And if you deported me back to Louisiana, I’d be pretty pissed.

If you’re a buttmunch, then you probably think they all left Haiti last week and they’re just now arriving at our southern border. The truth is, most of them left in 2010 after a devastating earthquake hit their nation that shares a Caribbean island with the Dominican Republic. Where did all these asylum-seeking Haitians go? They went to South America with most of them landing in Chile and Brazil.

While Haiti, Chile, and Brazil are each in Latin America by location, they’re not all Latinos (this is debated a lot). It often comes down to language and skin color. Spanish is the official language of Chile. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. And in Haiti, they have two official languages, French and Haitian Creole. By race, Brazil is 47 percent white and 43 percent mixed. Chile is nearly 90 percent white. Haiti is 95 percent black. So guess what immigrant Haitians encountered in Chile and Brazil? Yup. Racism. That stuff is everywhere.

So, with Joe Biden in the White House, Haitians in South America thought now would be a great time to abandon the lives they’ve created over the past decade and go somewhere to escape racism. They chose the United States. Ugh. Bad call. Did I mention Baby Goebbels was writing immigration policy? Did I mention we’re still using it? Isn’t this why we got rid of the last guy? I mean, one of the major reasons why?

So, the Biden administration, which is supposed to be more humane than the last administration full of Nazis, Klansmen, and fuckers, is exporting all these Haitians back to Haiti. That is a messed-up deal.

Haiti is not a great place to be. There are earthquakes, massive crime, poverty (poorest nation in the western hemisphere), a very low literacy rate, and the prime minister was recently assassinated. I once went out with a girl who had been living in Haiti (back in the 80s) and she told me it was basically legal to murder someone by hitting them with your car, and the biggest hassle from it was filling out insurance forms for damage to your car. A car can be more valuable than a human life in Haiti.

I would not want to send my worst enemy to Haiti. Haiti is so bad, I wouldn’t want to send Stephen Miller to Haiti….wait a minute. Yes, I would. I would love to send Stephen Miller to Haiti. Did I mention 95 percent of Haiti is black? Did I mention they don’t speak a lot of English? He’ll love it there. He can even take his new bride, Frau Farbissana, and their new baby, who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being born with a Hitler mustache and a can of spray-on hair. How do we make these deportations happen?

Joe Biden is exporting these people back to Haiti under a Trump policy. Yes, a policy written by Stephen Miller. And Haiti, expecting at least 14,000, says they can’t take all of them at once. This is a poverty-ravaged nation that’s still recovering from an earthquake from a decade ago. Haiti has no place to put these immigrants being deported by Biden. These Haitians are about become refugees in their home nation, which is how a lot of black U.S. citizens feel in the U.S. They took a huge gamble leaving jobs and homes in Chile and Brazil to come to the U.S. Now, they’re finding themselves back in Haiti. Most of these people would rather be sent back to Chile and Brazil, even with the racism factor. It’s still better than Haiti. Some of them might even be OK with Indiana (which is another place we can send the Goebbels, er…Miller family where they’d be really comfortable).

And while there are thousands of non-English speaking black people in a humanitarian crisis, most of our nation is fixated on one missing white girl. Stephen Miller’s out looking for her now.

Creative note: As you may know, I like to draw my cartoons in the morning. It’s nice to kick them out early and have the rest of the day to goof off and write my next cartoon. Fact: Goofing off helps write cartoons. Pull my finger.

Delivering the cartoons in the A.M. is also advantageous to my clients as they can place it on their pages and sites for their next day’s edition. And, it helps with big mondo national reprints so my readers can be fooled into believing I’m a big cheese. The best way for me to work with this is to have my idea before going to bed so I can be free to have nightmares about zombies and taking out the garbage in my boxer/briefs (it’s a real fear of mine because I’m often at home not wearing pants). I usually won’t go to bed until I’ve decided on an idea. Last night turned into this morning. I got the idea around 2:00 A.M. and my first thought was, “Ooh.” My second thought was, “I can’t do this. It’s really insensitive.” My third thought was, “Wait a moment…that’s what I do.”

I was afraid proofer Laura would say, “Ugh…but you’re going to do what you’re going to do.” I get that from her sometimes along with, “Put on some pants.” But instead, she said, “Yeah, baby.” OK, she didn’t say, “Yeah, baby” but she liked the cartoon. Even though Laura liked it, the cartoon has already been criticized by a few readers. I’m OK with that. It’s what I do…like not wearing pants.

Who’s Your Daddy?

Cjones08292021

I have put plenty of blame for the withdrawal of U.S. forces and refugees from Afghanistan on President Joe Biden. There is a lot of blame to go around, but the one thing I hate is when Democrats place all the blame on previous administrations as a way to deflect blame from President Biden. Yes, President Biden was handed a really bad deal, but he’s president. All presidents get bad deals from the previous administration.

Donald Trump walked into office hating basically everything the Obama administration left him that he couldn’t put his name on. He loved taking credit for the economy President Obama left him. He always boasted about how he made us energy independent even though President Obama had accomplished that in 2015.

But Donald Trump ripped apart our nuclear treaty with Iran. This move wasn’t just a stick in the eye to Iran, but a betrayal to every nation that was a partner in the treaty. Now, if Iran gets a nuclear weapon in the future, will Republicans go back and blame Donald Trump? Highly doubtful.

Donald Trump tore up the Paris Climate Agreement. He tore up NAFTA, which was left by the Clinton presidency. He tore up several other treaties, trade deals, and even attacked agreements made with NATO. Funny thing with NATO: He was screaming about our partners increasing their defense spending, which they had already committed to doing from pressure by President Obama. Most the new deals by the “greatest dealmaker” ever were just tiny adjustments that didn’t change much of anything.

Donald Trump even tore apart the plan left by the Obama administration on dealing with a pandemic.

What Trump did in a lot of cases was to NOT honor agreements made by the United States of America. He taught the world that not only couldn’t they trust any deal made with the President (sic) of the United States, but that they couldn’t trust the United States. The world is not overly confident we won’t elect another racist xenophobic corrupt loose cannon like Trump, if not Trump himself, in the future.

Here’s a guarantee: If Donald Trump does become president again (shudder), all the shit he created in his first administration will be blamed on President Biden. This isn’t a hard prediction to make.

What President Biden did with Afghanistan did was honor Trump’s deal. He extended the deadline a bit, but he kept America’s promise which still disgusts me since it was a Trump promise.

Trump is one of the daddies to this huge failure in Afghanistan. He tried to own the evacuation and campaigned on getting our people out. He set the date. He negotiated with the Taliban instead of the Afghanistan government. He tried to stage a photo-op with the Taliban at Camp David on 9/11, which failed because the Taliban…the fucking Taliban…didn’t trust him. Mike Pompeo did have a photo-op with the head of the Taliban, a guy the Trump administration helped get released from an Afghanistan prison. The Trump administration did all it could to deny refugees from entering our nation which created the visa backlog we’re dealing with now. Now, the Republican Party has erased everything about Trump and Afghanistan from all their websites. AfghaniWhoNow?

Trust me. Donald owns this right along with George W. Bush. If nothing else, Bush should have had a plan in place before leaving office. He didn’t.

George W. Bush is the daddy for our being in Afghanistan and Donald Trump is the daddy of this withdrawal failure and refugee crisis. Donald Trump has his nasty orange DNA all over it.

Trump Toys With The Border

cjones11052018

When Trump talks about the “caravan invasion,” he’s not trying to protect the nation. He’s only trying to get you to vote for a Republican. This has nothing to do with border security. This is an election trick.

Since Trump and the Republicans don’t have any accomplishments to run on, they have to run on lies (Republicans will save pre-existing conditions coverage) and fear (scary brown people coming to kill you and steal your lake cottage).

Trump and Republicans talk about how the caravan is staged, but if anything is staged, it’s him sending the military to the border days before the election. There’s no invasion for the military to meet, and if there were, the invaders would be moms in flip-flops and children with milk bottles. The military is not police, and they can’t detain anyone. There’s doubt the caravan will even make it to our border.

The biggest threat the military faces on the border is actually domestic. Leaked documents reveal that the military is concerned with violent protesters from the left and the right, and volunteer militias who may become violent and who have stolen military gear in the past.

From the papers, the military is preparing to defend against an “estimated 200 unregulated armed militia members currently operating along the Southwest Border.” There are reports of these “patriotic” unregulated militias stealing National Guard equipment during deployments.

This is an abuse of our military by Trump. Treating the military like toy soldiers you can play with for an election stunt is much more disrespectful than kneeling during the National Anthem. Trump said the military should treat people throwing rocks as if they have rifles, and was authorizing soldiers to shoot the rock throwers. The next day, he claimed he never said that.

What we need to see is just how much of a crisis this “caravan invasion” is after Tuesday. Will the military still be there? Will Trump keep screaming and lying about it at the rate he is now? Will it even be an issue? Will Trump pretend it’s the first he’s ever heard of it?

Trump has shown us there’s no depth he won’t sink to and nothing he won’t abuse for his own selfish gain. Instead of sending 5,000 soldiers to the border he should be sending 5,000 lawyers and judges to help with processing refugee applications.

Trump believes the military is his own personal toy. What he’s revealing is that his brain is emptier than Mr. Potato Head’s.

Troops Meet The Caravan Invasion

cjones11022018

One sure way to tell that the caravan “invasion” isn’t dangerous to the United States is that Republicans have to lie about it. If it’s actually so bad, then why can’t they be honest and only deliver the facts?

Trump campaigned on hatred toward immigrants. He accused Mexico of sending us rapists and murderers when he announced his campaign. It’s red meat for a base of stupid people who believe immigration is the greatest danger facing our nation, and not say, a friend to white supremacists in the White House.

Republicans and Donald Trump tell us it’s being funded by George Soros and Democrats. That’s the same rhetoric a white supremacist terrorist used to justify killing eleven Jews in a Pittsburgh synagogue last Saturday.

Trump has claimed there are gang members and even people from the Middle East in the caravan. He and the GOP state it’s a national emergency and an invasion. Now, they’re even claiming they’re bringing diseases like smallpox.

Trump has ordered 5,200 troops to man the border to protect us from this invasion. That is an abuse of our military. Our troops should not be used as election props. The caravan is over 2,000 miles away from our border, and they’re traveling by foot. So, why are the troops at the border now? Let’s see if they’re still there after Election Day.

This is not an invasion. These are mostly women and children seeking asylum. Do we really need an army to meet mothers wearing flip-flops and carrying babies? Trust me. After walking over 2,000 miles, they’re not going to feel like fighting.

As for carrying diseases, the last naturally occurring case of smallpox was in 1977.

There is no proof that gangs are in this caravan. There’s also not any proof that Muslims from the Middle East are trying to gain entry to the U.S. from Guatemala. Buy a map, idiots.

Republicans also keep fluctuating the numbers in the caravan. Some put it as high as 14,000. Yesterday, it was reported the number has decreased to less than 4,000. Most people in the caravan will not make it to the U.S. border. The last caravan was in April, and only about 150 migrants from that caravan made it to our border. We need the army to meet 150 migrants?

Another point you don’t hear much about is that these migrants are coming here legally. If you listen to Republicans, they’re all either sneaking or just crashing through Trump’s nonexistent border wall (which he claims is under construction but it’s not). These people will apply for refugee status. They have a legal right to do that. If someone walks over 2,000 miles to request asylum, we should hear them out. Not every immigrant can pose naked in a magazine and catch the attention of a billionaire who likes to trade up with wives.

Trump is also threatening to end birthright citizenship by executive order. He can’t do that. That’s protected in the Constitution. But, he doesn’t really intend to do that. It’s just good election propaganda. His base will love it. He doesn’t care that he’s lying. His lies have only grown more preposterous as the election nears. He also claimed we’re the only nation that grants birthright citizenship when there’s actually over 30 who do. Trump can get away with these lies because his base doesn’t research, and they don’t have enough integrity to demand honesty from their leader.

Walking thousands of miles on the slim hope of providing a better future for your children is integrity. What is lacking in integrity is exploiting people who need help so you can drum up fear and paranoia in your already frightened and paranoid little base of racists. It also takes gall to continue to exploit this and continue to lie and repeat the rhetoric of pipe bombers and synagogue shooters after what happened last week. Donald Trump was still exploiting the issue the day of the Pittsburgh massacre. He didn’t even pause to catch his breath.

We are the United States and can do better than using women and children refugees for exploitation. The people who do that are no better than the gangs who prey on them during their journey.

I like to think America is better than that. Hopefully, next Tuesday, America proves it is.

Caravan Of Haters

cjones10242018

As a caravan of migrants heads north toward the United States from Honduras, Donald Trump and Republicans are using it as a campaign issue to scare their supporters and give the GOP some momentum going into the midterms. Republicans are accusing Democrats and George Soros of funding the migrants, but if anyone has an incentive to finance their thousands-mile journey on foot, it’s Donald Trump.

The issue needs to be taken into perspective. The Republicans are trying to scare voters over 2,000 migrants seeking sanctuary in the United States. While making 2,000 seem like a huge number, Border Patrol arrests an average of over 42,000 a month. While posting no serious risk to the security of the U.S., they make great campaign fodder for stupid people.

People travel in these caravans as there’s safety in numbers from gangs, rapists, and others who prey on the desperate, which is exactly what Trump is doing. And these people are desperate to leave their homes and walk thousands of miles with their children on the slim chance they’ll receive refugee status in a nation with a racist president who really hates brown people.

This caravan isn’t a freak occurrence. There was one last April of about 1,200 people, with only 150 reaching the U.S. border.

Trump is also using the issue to threaten to withhold aid to Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, which is like banning birth control to stop abortions (Republicans still don’t understand that). The aid we give those third-world nations is to help bring stability. Removing it will make their situations worse, and land more people at our doorstep. He is also threatening to shut down our border with Mexico, which would halt trade. Finally, he’s warning that he’ll send the U.S. military to secure the border, which is probably illegal because the military is barred from performing civilian law enforcement within the United States (though they can provide logistics and other support to Border Patrol).

Trump is scaring his base of reprehensible stupid people over a handful of migrants two countries away, traveling on foot, most of which will never make it to the U.S. border. But then again, they scared these dumb people over the threat of taco trucks on every corner.

But, this is the new normal where stupidity and lies work, such as claiming Democrats want the immigrants here in time to vote in November. Being horrible works too as Trump has yet to offer any compassion to those running for their lives. For those who do arrive with children, his administration will surely separate them and throw more babies in detention centers.

Other than votes from the most hateful among us, Trump and the xenophobic Stephen Millers and John Boltons of his administration will use the issue to further isolate the United States.

Illegal immigration is a serious issue, but it’s not the most important or dangerous that our nation is facing. But, it’s great for making scapegoats when you’re enacting a racist agenda.

If you really want to see a mob of angry people that are dangerous to the United States, go to a Trump rally (I have. It’s bloodcurdling). Donald Trump’s supporters, the most fanatical, are the greatest danger our nation is facing right now, as they’re willing to tear it apart over a cult of stupid personality.

Personally, I’d rather have the caravan.
