Religious Test Bigotry

cjones10172020

Don’t take my word for it that Republicans are going to lose in November. Take theirs.

Republicans know they’re going to lose the Senate (even South Carolina is competitive. South Carolina!). They’re going to lose the White House. There is no chance they can retake Congress.

Republicans know the will of the American people is against them. The majority of the nation rejects Republicanism and Trumpism. In the past 32 years, they’ve only won the popular vote in a presidential election…ONCE. In 2018, Senate Democratic candidates received 12 million more votes than Republican candidates. And despite the will of this nation being against Republicans, they control the White House, the Senate, and will soon have six out of nine justices on the Supreme Court which will rule for decades. Do you think that’s fucked up? Good, because it’s fucked up.

Republicans know the majority of America doesn’t like them. They know the more educated and informed Americans are, they more likely they’ll vote against their policies because their policies are stupid, racist, and regressive. “Make America great again” means make America go backwards. And that’s why they’re ramming through the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett.

Nine months was the time between Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court and the election in 2016, yet Republicans wouldn’t even discuss it. There were no hearings. Republican senators refused to even meet with the man. There are 21 days between now and election day and yesterday, Republicans began hearings for Amy Coney Barrett.

Is it because she’s so qualified? No. While I don’t believe she’s a mouth-breathing knuckle-dragging moron, she doesn’t have much experience. She’s been a judge, not just a federal judge…but a judge period for less than four years. Does she need to be rammed through because of her excellent judgement? Well, she judged that all seven of her children could attend a White House super-spreader event without wearing face masks or engaging in social distancing. Should we ram her through because she’s a person who stands by her word and has exemplary principles? I don’t know because she once said only conservatives should replace conservative justices and vice versa for liberals. Today, she’s a conservative nominee replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

And should we ram her through because of her independence and free will? No because she’s in a cult. Literally. She is in a religious cult.

Republicans scream that Democrats shouldn’t exercise “religious bigotry” over her. I disagree. Exercise that shit. She’s in a cult. She’s going to be on the bench for decades. We have a right to know if she’s going to rule like the Handmaid’s Tale. It’s fair to ask if she’s going to enact her religious beliefs when it comes to abortion, health coverage for all Americans, guns, birth control, gay marriage, or force every unwed woman in the nation to wear a chastity belt, and if they screw around, a scarlet letter.

Yesterday, I observed an exchange between a conservative cartoonist and a liberal cartoonist. I merely observed…for once. The conservative was upset with the liberal’s cartoon on Donald Trump’s nominee and said his work “smacked” of religious bigotry. The conservative asked, “What would you have drawn had she been a devout Muslim or an Orthodox Jew?” My question to him would be, “What would you have drawn?”.

Let’s be honest. If a Democratic president nominated a Muslim female, the GOP would freak out. For example, look at what they’ve done with Ilhan Omar, and she’s a Congresswoman. Donald Trump has accused her of coming to “our” nation after messing up her birth nation of Somalia, never mind the fact she left Somalia when she was eight. They’ve accused her of supporting terrorists and of being a terrorist. They’ve yelled, “Send her back.” Republicans have said, “How dare she tell us how to run ‘our’ country,” forgetting the fact she was elected to tell us how to run our country. Never mind the fact that our country is also her country. They’ve even accused her of marrying her brother. Seriously. And if we take Donald Trump’s track record of hypocrisy into account, we should investigate to see if Melania is his sister.

So yeah. I’m sure Republicans wouldn’t exercise any religious bigotry if a Muslim was nominated to the Supreme Court…or any court for that matter. And just how many Muslims are currently occupying federal courts in the United States of America? Zero. Zip. Nada. Nil. Zilch. None.

There are no Muslims on any of our nation’s federal courts. And yet, Republicans are clutching their pearls by people asking a religious zealot who’s a member of a literal cult that literally tells women to be submissive to their men, if her faith will play a part in her decisions.

I have two great ideas: First, let’s nominate nothing but atheists. They won’t be influenced by some backwards dogma while also respecting religious freedom because that also protects our right to not have any faith.

My second great idea is to stop these proceedings because ramming this confirmation of Amy Coney Barret to the Supreme Court is a joke leading to a tragedy.

This is a lifetime appointment. By ramming it through, Republicans are showing they don’t respect that. They don’t respect the American people. They say the American people should decide who puts these judges on the courts but by ramming this through within 22 days shows that Republicans are afraid of what the American people will decide.

And has Amy Coney Barrett said, “Hey, let’s wait until after the election.”? Of course not. Because just like everyone else Donald Trump has nominated, she doesn’t have any principles. She can not wait to get on the Supreme Court and take away your health insurance and to outlaw abortion. Hell, Justices Thomas and Alito are salivating at the chance to outlaw gay marriage.

The real irony here is that after she gets on the court and helps install Donald Trump president for life, there will no longer be a Supreme Court.

I think I ranted enough yesterday on this topic that I can spare you a political rant today.

While writing yesterday’s column I inserted a part about getting a tan. Then I thought, hey that’s my next cartoon. So I took it out and saved it for this. I went to bed and then I got back up because I wanted to rough it out at least. I had a fear I’d forget the idea even though I don’t forget ideas I like.

I sat on it all day because there’s only one cartoonist out there I think is crazy and weird enough to think like me. I wanted to see if he came up with the same idea. Yeah, I could have drawn it and beaten him to the punch but even if I’m first with the idea, I don’t want to publish the same idea. Thankfully he wasn’t as weird as me on Tuesday.

Tool For Terrorists

cjones12082015

I think how much fun it will be as a cartoonist for Trump to win his party’s nomination. While I make fun of Trump, the situation is starting to lose its humor. The leading candidate for one of America’s two political parties is laying out a platform of xenophobia. This is 2015. Not 1933 Germany.

There’s a lot of stupid people out there. If you disagree with me on issues like abortion, gun control, race relations, etc, that doesn’t mean I think you’re stupid (you’re just wrong). If you’re supporting Trump, you’re either an idiot or a full blown racist.

It is amazing how people are not shy about their racism and bigotry. Just go on social media. Of course they don’t think they’re terrible people. Hey, David Duke doesn’t think he’s a racist.

Donald Trump is a terrible person. His bankruptcies never hurt him. They hurt the people who invested in him. The only immigration he’s in favor of is when it’s time to shop for a new wife. His plan for programs he doesn’t like is to replace them with “something better.” He kicked off his campaign insulting Hispanics and then proceeded to insult women, gays, African Americans, Muslims, etc.

Now he is saying we should shut down all mosques, enter all Muslims into a database, and not allow any Muslims to enter the country. None. Not refugees, not students, not people on vacation, not even American Muslims returning to the country. That sounds like a lot of work. I’m surprised he isn’t suggesting to throw them into concentration camps. He can have Mexico pay for it.

Obama says the West is not at war with Islam. Donald Trump and many others apparently disagrees. This is what the terrorists want. They want us to be at war with their religion. It’s what they sell. It’s what they use to recruit. Can you lie and get people to believe in it? Yes. It works for Republicans too. All of the Republican candidates have provided ISIL with recruiting material. Donald Trump is their headliner. Every time Donald Trump talks, he’s hurting America.

Trump’s bad idea is so bad that Sith Lord Dick Cheney and the last human you ever want to be stuck in an elevator with, Ted Cruz, both bad idea architects, think it’s a bad idea. It’s so bad that no other Republican candidate likes it. It’s like a turd cake with a crispy turd frosting with a creamy turd filling. It really stinks. A lot of Republicans however are eating it up and asking for seconds.

A lot of conservatives say Obama is an embarrassment to America. That other countries are laughing at us. They’re half right. They’re laughing at us all right but not because of Obama. They’re laughing at the lunacy that is the Republican slate of candidates.

I often challenge people to prove to me how dumb they are. With Trump they’re accepting that challenge. I hope it doesn’t burn me in November. Trump starts with Muslims, then he’ll go after Hispanics, then blacks, then gays, and then any dissent. Yikes!

Why did I use “ISIL” instead of “ISIS?” I was wondering how I should refer to them. Both are correct in the right context. ISIS is the terrorist movement in Iraq and Syria. ISIL refers to the movement worldwide, specifically the Middle East and Africa. So I went with ISIL in this cartoon.

A lot of people are upset Obama used “ISIL” in his Oval Office Address. He was correct in the context he was using. Again, people are mocking the president for being smarter than them. Stupid intellectuals.

Pray For This Deranged Cartoon

cjones12042015

The Republicans have been screaming about “Radical Islamic Terrorism” for a long time now. Meanwhile, they ignore greater threats. Yes. Greater threats, like Climate Change or non-Muslim Americans killing other Americans.

They were real slow in responding to a white guy shooting up a Planned Parenthood clinic. Why? Several reasons but the main ones being, they are waging a Smear campaign against Planned Parenthood, the shooter is white, the shooter is a Christian, and mostly because the shooter shares a lot of their core values.

They almost tripped over each other to respond to the shooting in San Bernardino. That’s because the shooter is Muslim and he’s brown.

The Colorado shooting by a white, Christian, Fundamentalist occurred on a Wednesday. The GOP candidates waited until Saturday to make statements. It’s been one day since the California shooting by a brown Muslim and the candidates have spoken. Let’s compare.

Ted Cruz on Colorado: Praying for the loved ones of those killed, those injured & first responders who bravely got the situation under control in Colorado Springs. He also referred to the shooter as a “transgender liberal activist.”

Ted Cruz on California:  “all of us are deeply concerned that this is yet another manifestation of terrorism, radical Islamic terrorism here at home.”

Mike Huckabee on Colorado: “It was mass murder,” he said. “It was absolutely unfathomable, and there’s no excuse for killing other people whether it’s happening inside the Planned Parent headquarters, inside their clinics where many millions of babies die or whether it’s people attacking Planned Parenthood.”

Mike Huckabee on California: “There were always two “common denominators” for mass murders in the country: “One: A mentally unstable person. Two: A gun-free zone. And those seem to be the common denominators.”

Carly Fiornia on Colorado: “Any protesters should always be peaceful, whether it’s Black Lives Matter or pro-life protesters. What I would say to anyone who tries to link this terrible tragedy to anyone who opposes abortion or opposes the sale of body parts is, this is typical left-wing tactics,”

Carly Fiornia on California: “If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck and sounds like a duck, maybe it’s a duck.”

John Kasich on Colorado: Senseless violence has brought tragedy to Colorado Springs. I pray for the families in mourning and have hope our nation can heal

John Kasich on California: “There can be no doubt that this is an effort to destroy our very way of life.”

Ben Carson on Colorado: “Unfortunately, there’s a lot of extremism coming from all areas. ”

Ben Carson on California: “Look at all the things that are going on around the world. ISIS and groups like this. Just hatred and evil.”

Marco Rubio on Colorado: “we’re focusing too much on what it is people are using to commit violence, and not enough on why it is that people are committing violence.”

Marco Rubio on California: “We must not separate the threat to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv from the threat to Paris or London or New York or Miami.”

Donald Trump on Colorado: “I will tell you, there is a tremendous group of people that think it’s terrible, all of the videos that they’ve seen with some of these people from Planned Parenthood talking about it like you’re selling parts to a car.”

Donald Trump on California: “Radical Islamic terrorism. Take a look. I mean, you look at the names.” He then went on to criticize Obama for not using the term “radical Islamic terrorism.”

Chris Christie on Colorado: I can’t find anything but he probably offered a prayer. He did have a tiff earlier this year over Colorado’s pot law. Maybe he felt a comment would be awkward.

Chris Christie on California: “We need to come to grips with the idea that we are in the midst of the next world war.” He also said it was the “first” terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11. I guess he doesn’t consider any gun violence terrorism and didn’t read a newspaper the week of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Jeb Bush on Colorado: “There is no acceptable explanation for this violence, and I will continue to pray for those who have been impacted.”

Jeb Bush on California: Praying for the victims, their families & the San Bernardino first responders in the wake of this tragic shooting.

The Republican main brand is fair and this is another opportunity for them to sell that. Toward a solution, all the candidates have are prayers and a rush to hate Muslims. Neither is helpful or a solution to Americans shooting Americans. The New York Daily News is catching a lot of heat for illustrating as much on their front page. But praying while adding nothing else doesn’t change anything. Go ahead and pray for people. Despite some conservatives acting wounded over the prayer criticism, it’s not enough.  Isn’t it just like conservatives to play victims over praying being criticized after 14 people were just killed?

How about in ADDITION to prayers (I said “in addition” you overly sensitive cry babies), proposing some solutions? How about actual legislation other than another bill to defund Obamacare?

Focusing on prayers and Islam isn’t stopping gun violence. Remaining silent over one shooting and taking a political advantage over another isn’t helping either.

The solution is fewer guns. Fewer guns for you. Fewer guns for me. And most importantly, fewer guns for bad guns. Seriously, it’s all empty rhetoric if you aren’t helping to keep guns away from terrorists, whether they’re domestic, foreign, Christian, or Islamic.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is against not selling guns to people on no-fly lists. We don’t have a problem leaving a douchenozzle stranded in Wichita but we better not violate his civil rights by making him wait on purchasing a gun. This guy is the leader of Congressional Republicans. We’re in trouble. It’s also weird how Republican concerns over Constitutional rights are absent over issues such as hmmm…I don’t know….voting?

There are too many guns. That’s the foundation to this problem. Obama is doing a terrible job of rounding up all our guns before the U.N. invasion. I swear I’m not voting for that guy again.

Goose Stepping To A Door Near You

cjones11202015

People always play the Nazi or Hitler card when arguing politics. It goes for conservatives and liberals alike. It’s one of those “oh no he didn’t.” It gets tiresome and it usually gets you ignored pretty quick. Rightly so.

The most recent tiresome example is the comparison of Democratic Socialists to National Socialists. The Nazis were National Socialists and if you know anything about history, there wasn’t anything Democratic about the Nazis. The word “Democrat” isn’t the word to fixate on. I’m more concerned with nationalism. Anyone making the comparison between Democrats and Nazis is just a trolling moron. You might as well say vegetarians want to gas Jews, invade Russia and steal art because Hitler was a vegetarian. Hitler also loved dogs and opposed cruelty to animals. Go figure. Hitler also initiated the Volkswagen Beetle. Driving a tiny car that looks like a shoe and nearly impossible to lose your virginity in does not make you a Nazi.

By the way, Bernie Sanders, the Democratic Socialist, is Jewish.

Now Donald Trump and other conservatives are making an argument that Muslims should be entered into a national database. He also says we should shut down some mosques. It always starts with some. What’s up with Trump? Is he secretly a member of Hydra? If he wins the election I predict he’ll rip his face skin off after being sworn in revealing he’s the Red Skull.

Are these people serious? Are they unfamiliar with what happened in the past when we wanted to put people on a list identified by their religion? Maybe they are aware and they’re big fans of it. He is leading in Republican polls. How disgusting do these candidates have to get before Republican voters say “hey…I’m not sure about that plan.”?

Earlier this week in my community a public hearing was held for a group who wants to build a new mosque. At a town hall meeting in Spotsylvania, in the Fredericksburg, VA, region, two men yelled that all Muslims were terrorists. Police had to end the meeting early because of all the hatred. Never mind the fact the group wanting a new mosque currently has a mosque and has been here for decades and hasn’t been a problem. Oh my God, they’re gonna have a new building to continue doing what they’ve been doing without anything bad ever happening! Somebody stop it!

Republicans love to scream that President Obama and Hillary Clinton never use the term “Islamic terrorists” when discussing terrorism from Muslims. A lot of progressives don’t believe an entire religion and culture should be lumped in with the bad guys. The same people who criticize them for that never call out the people that say all Muslims are terrorists. Should we start calling white people who shoot up schools as Christian terrorists?

When we look back on history we see that at times the United States was on the wrong side when it came to treating refugees and at times its own citizens. We refused to let Jews come to the U.S., with many dying in the Holocaust as a result. We put our own citizens into camps based on their Japanese race. We ostracized and black listed people accused of being Communists. We were on the wrong side of history. It’s amazing that so many are ready to be on the wrong side again.

I’m not afraid of refugees. I grew up surrounded by them. You did too. One of the best men at my wedding was a refugee. Refugees will be vetted. Refugees will not be made up of single men between the ages of 18 and 40. They will mostly be widows, orphans and families. Most of the males will have professional careers. There’s also a very long process to be granted refugee status into the U.S. Congress, which never does anything, voted on a law trying to block refugees from entering the country. How ugly have we become?

Even those five Syrian guys stopped in Honduras with fake passports aren’t dangerous. They’re not refugees either. Four are college students and the other is a professor. There are no links between any of them and criminal elements. Conservatives shouldn’t be afraid of college students…unless they’re black and they want a protest. Also, all of the Paris attackers are from Europe.

Every cartoon I’ve drawn this week has been on issues that resulted from the Paris attacks. I like to vary it up but the national conversation this week has been all about Paris, Syria, and refugees. I feel like there’s a lot to stand up for. It’s very important we don’t go down that Nazi road. I’m not going to be silent on these matters. There are too many people out there who want to take this country backward. They vote. They’re breeding.

If you don’t think it’s a problem that the government goes after Muslims then ask yourself this. Who will they come after next?

Paging Doctor Bigot

cjones09222015

Dr. Ben Carson made some statements Sunday that he would never vote for a Muslim president. He went on to say that the religion is not consistent with the U.S. Constitution. He’s right.

The Muslim religion is not consistent with our Constitution. Either is Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism or Voodoo. Thomas Jefferson  wrote in 1821 that Virginia’s religious freedom law was meant to apply to “the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and the Mahometan,” a term then used to mean Muslim, “the Hindoo and infidel of every denomination.” I think I’ll take Jefferson’s idea of the separation of church and state over Dr. Carson’s.

Once upon a time there were laws in this country that barred Catholics from holding office. Let’s not forget that women and blacks were also prevented from voting.

A candidate’s religion doesn’t determine if he’s fit for the office of president. It’s how he or she understands it applies to our laws, which is it doesn’t. Carson spends a lot of time talking about Christianity and exhibiting a lot of ignorance on basic civics. Of course we’re talking about a doctor who doesn’t believe in Climate Change, says people turn gay in prison, wants to use drones to bomb our border with Mexico and says we should eliminate the Veterans Administration.

Not surprising Democrats pounced on his comments. Very surprising a few Republicans jumped on it. Lindsey Graham, and John Kasich (in case you forgot they’re still running) both criticized Carson. Most surprising is Ted Cruz criticized Carson for his remarks. Ted Cruz! You have to be an extreme bigot to make Ted Cruz disagree with you. Bobby Jindal kinda sorta disagreed with Carson.

Carson was defended by Rush Limbaugh. Donald Trump, who’s still dealing with his public display of Islamophobia, said some people think we already have a Muslim president.

It’s very telling of a political party when your top three candidates consists of a racist egomaniac, a pathological lying failed business leader and a guy who wants to enact some sort of Christianity Sharia Law.

At the very least their hatred of Muslims might overshadow their hatred of Mexicans.

No wonder Scott Walker went home.

Trump’s Birther Support

cjones09192015

At a Donald Trump rally in New Hampshire last night, The Donald invited the audience to ask questions. Of course he didn’t answer any of the questions but his responses were still very enlightening.

The very first question he received was from a conspiracy theorist. The man said “We have a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one.” Trump stopped the guy to tell the audience the upcoming question was going to be very important. The man continued “He’s not even an American. But anyway, we have training camps, growing, where they want to kill us. That’s my question: when can we get rid of them?”

Did Trump correct the man? Inform him that Obama is an American-born Christian? That we do not have Muslim training camps? That we shouldn’t demonize Muslims? No. Trump responded “We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things. I mean you know a lot of people are saying that and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there and we’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.”

Do you know what Muslims do? They pray three times a day on their knees. Do you know who else has knees? The devil!

For the record, there’s nothing evil about Muslims. A lot of them are better Americans than those spreading lies and fear. We shouldn’t berate them, stereotype them, discriminate against them, fear them or call a bomb squad when a Muslim child makes a clock.

Some people wonder why crazy people are attracted to Trump. Donald Trump is sexist, misogynist, racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic and a birther. So guess what element his campaign is going to attract? Nuns?

Trump was a birther before birtherism became cool. He was right there with the Tea Party and their covert racist chant “I want my country back.” Trump claimed he sent investigators to Hawaii to investigate the truth about Obama’s birthplace. He later stated his investigators were amazed at what they found and that he’ll release his findings in the future. This was about two years ago and we’re still waiting for those findings. They probably found out Ted Cruz was born in Canada.

Some analysts say Trump’s response to the crazy question guy will cut into his base. No it won’t. That is his base. A crazy, racist, birther, xenophobic, sexist glue-sniffing base.

Here’s some fun poll findings: 29 percent of Americans  and 43 percent of Republicans think Christian Obama is a Muslim. 43 percent of Republicans want to believe something that lacks any proof, evidence or even a scant clue to warrant their suspicions. Same for the birthers.

Twenty percent of Americans believe Obama was born outside the United States.

Where do Trump supporters land? Glad you asked. 66 percent believe Obama is Muslim while only 12 percent believe he’s Christian. 61 percent believe he was born elsewhere while only 21 percent believe he was born here.

What would have been really amazing at the Trump rally would have been if the first guy picked to ask a question wasn’t a raving lunatic. I’m surprised he wasn’t wearing tin foil on his head (Great idea for the Trump marketing team. Sell Trump 2016 tin foil hats at the rallies. It’ll be huuuuuuuuuuuge).

During the 2008 presidential campaign a crazy lady told John McCain that Obama was an Arab. McCain corrected her and he was lavishly praised for his bravery. I think that’s a sad statement on today’s political climate. Saying the truth and not tolerating crazy crap from lunatics is considered brave.

Other than picking Sarah Palin as a running mate, McCain didn’t encourage or invite the crazy freaks. OK, that Palin selection went a long way into the land of crazy, and we’re still stuck with her and now her ignorant, hypocritical and slutty daughter. Thanks, McCain. But I digress.  John McCain did not play to the insane crowd. Trump is beating the drum for their support.

The other candidates want Trump’s support. Just remember what and who they’re going to get when they take it away from Trump. It doesn’t always work. Look at Ted Cruz’s numbers. But then again, Cruz is the type of guy that requires a pork chop to get his dog to play with him. Even Kim Davis didn’t want a photo op with that guy.

Republicans still use “socialist” as a dirty word as though it’s the same as communism and Bernie Sanders will turn us into the Soviet Union. I think he’s going more for a Norway type of thing. Compared to the country Republicans want us to become, socialism is looking pretty damn good.

By the way, what the hell is a Muslim Training Camp? Do they train you to be Muslim? Wouldn’t that be a mosque?

No-Go Zone

cjones01202015

Fox News being wrong about something isn’t something new. Foxnews apologizing for being wrong about something is quite unique.

This week Fox News claimed there are “no-go zones” in Europe, specifically England. These zones are supposed to be areas that’s entirely Muslim, very anti-Semitic, where they basically govern themselves, live under Sharia law and the police don’t both with. So yeah it was made up.

Fox News apologized and admitted it was a huge blunder.

Enter Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

Yes, another politician from my home state made an ass out of himself. A couple weeks ago it was Louisiana congressman Steve Scalise for giving speeches to white supremacists.

Last year it was congressman Vance McAllister caught kissing a congressional aide. He decided he needed to focus on repairing his marriage so he announced he wouldn’t run for reelection, then changed his mind and ran for reelection and lost.

Louisiana Senator David Vitter was exposed as being a customer for prostitutes. He was reelected.

Then of course the state has one of the most famous crooks to ever serve as governor Edwin Edwards and let’s not bring up David Duke.

I digress; Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal took a Eurotrip and  gave a speech about these “no-go zones.” Of course it was later pointed out that he was wrong. He hasn’t corrected or explained himself so at this point he’s not wrong anymore, he’s lying.

This is what Republicans do. Even if they’re not making stuff up they’re trying to scare you. That’s Fox News’ specialty.

Not All Bad…Unless

cjones12172014

If you listen to right wingers, painting some groups with a wide brush good, others bad. But if you listen to right wingers closely they won’t even admit there are bad examples of police officers. I heard one wacko from a police association on TV last night say the shooting of the 12-year-old in Cleveland was justified and the officers were in danger.

Some people are going to read this cartoon and actually think I’m saying all Muslims are bad. I’m not saying that. I have to state that because sure enough someone out there who doesn’t understand satire is going to read this cartoon.
