I don’t mind that the First Lady travels a lot. What I mind are hypocrites who criticize one individual for an act, but stay mum towards others. Conservatives are huge about this. Great examples are wars, Russia’s encroachments/invasions, the debt and even the president putting his foot on his desk in the Oval Office.
This past week conservatives are once again jumping on Michelle Obama for her travels over seas. Let’s compare. Michelle Obama spent 55 days abroad during her husband’s first term. Laura Bush spent 212 days abroad. That’s 46 foreign trips and 73 countries visited. Obama won’t be able to match her trips if she tried. But hey, conservatives will continue to ignore facts and harp and scream about something that happens in every administration.

My position is that the First Lady is married to the leader of the free world. The most powerful man in the world and the target for lots of bullets in the world! She’s trading her husband and her life for… for… for WHAT? The rest of her life is a fishbowl with SS agents following them everywhere.

I don’t begrudge her and her children all the perks they can legally pop out of the situation. (By “her” I mean every/any First Lady, Laura Bush included.)

Further, The First Lady (capitalized to indicate the position not the person) is somewhat like “Royalty” in that she is a symbol of the American Democracy. Just like the Royal Family of England is a full time job of tributes and openings and what have you, so, to some lesser degree is The First Lady.

As to the children. Come ON! Their daddy is the effin’ (I can swear here, right?) President of the United States! That means they can’t be just normal kids or they’ll wind up like Barb and Jenna. So they’re limited. But what they’re limited to! They’re limited to spending Spring Break in CHINA. (Probably a second rate vacay compared to some of the kids they go to school with.) But they get to have Spring Break in CHINA as the daughters of the POTUS! After next year they’ll NEVER be able to say that again (Unless Michelle runs and wins… Never say never.)
