A Virginia State subcommittee has passed a bill, barely, that’ll let kids pray, engage in religious activities, wear religious clothing and authorize schools to allow students to express their religious beliefs as a public speaker at public school events. It’ll also open up schools to many future lawsuits regarding the separation of church vs. state.
Students are protected from religious discrimination by laws that already exists. This new bill will confuse things even more. Laws like this are meant to treat everyone the same, but that never happens. Let’s see the reaction from Christians if a Wican or “even worse”, a Muslim student expresses their religious beliefs during a graduation ceremony.
The state school board association doesn’t like this law but what do they know? Legislators always know more about education than those who are working in education.
Schools biggest problems are usually ones concerning budgets and class room sizes. Glad to see the General Assembly worry about stuff going on in school that doesn’t actually have anything to do with education.
Here’s the rough.

Hey, Clay:
I think the VA subcommittee is just doing its job to protect the religious liberty of all, not just Christians, but Muslims and the “others worse,” as you deemed them. It is intended to complement the laws of religious freedom concerning schools, that’s all.
