Today’s Republicans

Republicans are really ganging up on Obama over Russia’s incursion into Crimea.  In fact, they’re much more hostile toward Obama than they are to Putin over the ordeal.

John McCain said “it was a massive intelligence failure and a misreading of Vladimir Putin’s intentions.”  Lindsay Graham said “What we’re seeing in the Ukraine right now is a result of failed policies in Syria and Benghazi.”  Sarah Palin is weighing in by saying she’s not one to say “I told ya so” and then goes on to say “I told ya so.”  Palin says she predicted Putin would invade the Ukraine if Obama was elected.  She also stated “Lookit, people are lookin’ at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates and bloviates.”
These people are putting Putin on a pedestal while burying their president.

Where was this bashing of the president when Russia attacked Georgia while Bush W. was president?  Oh yeah, that’s right.  Bush is a Republican and this is merely partisan politics, even if the statements are un-American.  It’s almost always fair game to criticize the president, but there are times you support and back up your president as it’s backing up your nation.  Remember that patriotism thing?

Obama’s policies don’t have anything to do with Russia’s actions.  It doesn’t matter what he or his administration says, what they eat and definitely not what sort of pants the guy has on.  It wouldn’t matter if Bush was still president or if Mitt Romney had won the election.  The United States has a long history of letting Russia do whatever it wants to do in Europe and Asia.  It didn’t matter when Ike was president or Reagan or Bush.

America can’t do anything about it.  There’s no reason for Putin to evaluate our response.  On top of everything else, there hasn’t been any real violence yet.  Ukraine is not going to attack Russia.  Russia has not actually invaded.  I know everyone expects us to have massive influence all over the world, but this time may be the time to sit one out.  We can’t be the world police for everything.

And at some point maybe Republicans should consider being Americans and patriots above being Republicans.
