Defund The Police

cjones06112020

This cartoon should ignite a lot of debate on social media over the next few days.

A lot of Black Lives Matter protesters are calling for defunding the nation’s police departments. There’s a lot of talk about what that means exactly and concerns Donald Trump and Republicans will milk it for the 2020 presidential campaign. Guess what. They’re already doing that.

It doesn’t really matter what the facts are for Donald Trump and Republicans to take something, fill it full of lies, and run with it. Remember how President Obama was going to take all our guns? Do you remember President Obama actually taking our guns? During the 2018 midterm elections, Trump and Republicans ran on the message the Democratic Party wanted to abolish ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). That did not work, the Democrats took the House, and we still have ICE. A lot of Republican voters probably thought Nancy Pelosi was coming to take their ice makers and we’d have to go back to trays.

Republicans and Trump gaslight and lie on a political issue? Remember, this is the same party that ran on saving Obamacare in 2018. Donald Trump also claimed George Soros was funding Central American caravans to “invade” our southern border and he even admitted he had no facts to base this claim.

Donald Trump stated yesterday that we’re not going to defund the police despite the fact he actually doesn’t have much of a say in it. Funding your local police department is mostly from your local government. But, the federal government can create laws restructuring and regulating police departments which is exactly what this nation needs.

While people argue most cops are good and the bads ones are just a few…the rotten apples have rotted police culture. While you can argue it was just a couple of cops who pushed the elderly man in Buffalo, there were multiple who walked past the man without offering any assistance. Then, it was an official statement from the department that the old man tripped and fell on his own despite there being video evidence contrary to that. Then, after two of the cops were punished, 52 of their colleagues resigned from their task force in protest of cops being held accountable. That is a culture that doesn’t need restructuring. It needs to be eliminated. Do we have to defund police to eliminate that rotten cop culture?

When the Minnesota State Police arrested a black CNN journalist who was only doing his job, reporting, they later issued an official statement saying they released him after verifying his credentials. The arrest was actually caught on tape with the reporter, Omar Jimenez showing the cops his…wait for it…credentials. The camera recording him and the microphone in his hand were also helpful clues, but hey, you never know when rioters will grab fake cameras and microphones to loot a Hardees. But the point is, at a moment when the public is protesting police, and the police need to rebuild trust, the entire department lied. Cops lie. They lie to cover their ass. They lie to cover each other’s asses. They lie to nail your ass.

It’s also extremely difficult to prosecute police not to mention how hard it is to get a cop to arrest a cop.  As it’s been noted and obvious to everyone except police and Republicans, the only way to get the ball rolling to prosecute a cop is to catch a cop breaking the law on tape. How many days did it take for the police to arrest and charge George Floyd’s killer? How many more days to charge his accomplices? The police record almost everything they do (they’re supposed to anyway), but we have yet to see the police’s tape from the George Floyd case.

So what does it mean to defund the police? Does it mean to cut their funding, restructure the department, or to actually eliminate the entire department?

In Minneapolis where George Floyd was killed, it means getting rid of the entire department. I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

The group MPD150, which says it is “working towards a police-free Minneapolis,” argues that defunding would be more about “strategically reallocating resources, funding, and responsibility away from police and toward community-based models of safety, support, and prevention.” So, who ya’ gonna call if someone breaks in? Ghostbusters? What if all the NRA gun nuts who took one shooting class start acting as vigilantes when they’re not marching about how much they need haircuts? You saw what happened when those two white right-wing racists in Georgia tried a citizens arrest on Ahmaud Arbery.

The main problem is the slogan, “Defund the police.” “Restructure the police department and reallocate resources to more proper agencies” just isn’t as catchy, even if liberals are more capable than Republicans with handling chants longer than three syllables.

Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Karen Bass, said she’s not in favor of eliminating police departments, but cities and states need to look at how they’re spending their resources and probably invest more in their communities. She said, “Maybe this is an opportunity to re-envision public safety.”

Right now, there is momentum to restructure the nation’s police forces. Everyone knows, even Republicans, that the nation’s police forces are corrupt. Yes, they are corrupt. When you have just one bad cop on a force and the entire department allows him to stay, you have a corrupt police force. If 19 good cops cover for one bad cop, you have 20 bad cops. In case you’re a Republican, 19 + 1 = 20.

In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city would move funding from the NYPD to youth initiatives and social services,  but he didn’t say how. In Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti vowed to cut as much as $150 million that was part of a planned increase in the police department’s budget.

Trump is using this to help portray himself as the “law and order” candidate, despite being the same guy who calls FBI agents “human scum,” attacks law enforcement agents who investigate suspected Russian spies, ruined the lives and careers of agents for his political ambitions and petty insecurities, and has literally broken the law by asking for foreign governments to help his reelection campaign. Yes, he did all that.

Plus, the guy promising us he’s the “law and order” candidate is a huge racist. Sheriff Buford T. Justice wouldn’t want to be aligned with this guy. Yes, the nation’s police unions, who create super PACs for Republicans, are totally in bed with Donald Trump, who told police they shouldn’t be “too nice” when arresting brown suspects. Donald Trump has literally encouraged police to engage in police brutality. How did the police in attendance react? They laughed and applauded. Again, cop culture is corrupt.

The LAPD union representative said, “Cutting the LAPD budget means longer responses to 911 emergency calls, officers calling for back-up won’t get it, and rape, murder, and assault investigations won’t occur or will take forever to initiate, let alone complete.” So basically, the cops will respond slower to the neighborhoods they don’t patrol anyway and suspects will be prosecuted almost as slowly as bad cops are prosecuted.

As we know from history, the Democratic Party’s biggest obstacle to winning a presidential election is the Democratic Party. The Democrats will defeat themselves before Donald Trump will. Right now, it looks like Joe Biden, who said he’s against defunding the police, is on his way to a historic landslide in the presidential election. And, the Democratic Party only has to defeat a stupid racist who lost over 40 million jobs, over 100,000 lives, and the nation’s respect and credibility on the international stage. So, yeah…Democrats should be terrified.

I know the socialist Democrats are passionate to the point they don’t really care about winning elections. You want change and you want it now, damn the politics of it. But you need the politics to get what you want. It’s like saying, “Fuck it, I’m voting third party” then not understanding why you don’t see any liberal change after getting Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

Should we defund the police? Yes, to a point. Should we eliminate police departments? No, but we should tear them apart and rebuild. But before we can do any of that, we have to get rid of Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. What I don’t understand is why that is so hard for the Bernie Bros to understand. It’s like a four-syllable chant to Republicans…or math. They can’t do it.

Before we can restructure the Po-Po, we have to get rid of the orange Ho-Ho.

Did Mexico Pay For It?

Nope. Mexico did NOT pay for it.
Donald Trump ran on a racist xenophobic campaign of building a wall to keep people from south of the U.S. border from entering our country. The only wall he’s completed is one around the White House to protect him from Amerian citizens.
According to people who have done the measurements, there is over two miles of fence and concrete traffic stops surrounding the White House. Right now, there aren’t just Secret Service members protecting the White House and the president (sic). There are members of America’s military on the grounds…and Donald Trump wants more. Last Monday, he teargassed peaceful protesters so he could walk across the street for a photo-op.
Donald Trump teargassed protesters and the not-so-funny thing is, nobody knows for sure who ordered the gassing of American citizens. Kayleigh McEneny claimed the order came from Attorney General William Barr. Now, Barr says he didn’t place that order. If that’s true, then McEneny, who claimed during her first press briefing she’d never lie to us, owes us two apologies for lying to us. First, she said the crowd wasn’t teargassed despite it being caught live on national television. Second, she may have lied about Barr ordering that teargassing she claims never happened.
But then again, Donald Trump never hid in his bunker. He was only “inspecting” it.
Here’s a tip, White House. When you create a lie, make sure everyone’s on the same page and stick to it. You know, like building a wall, we’re already started building it, and Mexico is going to pay for it. You know, lies.
And by the way, when was the last time you heard anyone from the administration talk about Mexico paying for the wall? Just like that wall around the White House to protect scared little people who live in fear, we’re going to be stuck with the bill.
I wonder, does President Obama even know he had a bunker?

It’s Trippy

cjones06082020

Conservatives, Trump supporters, and even Trump himself keep pointing out how horrible protesters are. They’re so bad, we need to call in the military to every state to stop them from exercising their Constitutional rights.

If you listen to the goons, all protesters are Antifa coming to kill you, loot your store, and impregnate your daughters. They’re not all coming to kill you and loot your store. And nearly every time they point out someone as an example of a protester who’s really a criminal, their example is black. Golly gee willikens, I wonder why that is.

In fact, from conservatives, you only hear about the bad stuff. You hear about looting, riots, and people being hurt. You don’t hear about George Floyd or police brutality. You don’t hear about the message being sent. All they’re doing is trying to invalidate the Black Lives Movement. And the one thing you’re not hearing from the right-wingers are examples of police brutality.

One of my readers was a little upset with a recent cartoon and column of mine. She pointed out that it’s only a few bad apples among the police. What she doesn’t get is that those “bad apples” are the result of a bad system. They’re the result of a racist system.

When Donald Trump spoke to a group of police officers shortly after becoming president (sic) and told them “not to be so nice” and suggested they bash handcuffed suspects heads into cars while placing them in back seats, it wasn’t one or two cops giggling in the crowd. It wasn’t one or two who applauded and cheered. It was all of them. Plus, in case you missed it, the President (sic) of the United States endorsed police brutality. He also used the word “thugs” in his endorsement.

After the Minnesota State Police released a CNN reporter they arrested, it wasn’t one “bad apple” who said they released him “after” verifying his credentials. The lie was the official statement from the department.

On Monday while U.S. Park Police were clearing the crowd out from in front of the White House for Donald Trump’s photo-op, a cop slammed his shield into a cameraman from 7News U.S. As the cameraman and reporter, Amelia Brace, are fleeing, like the cops want them to do, one of the cops takes a swing and strikes Brace in the back with his baton. The Park Police’s initial response was, “As many of the protesters became more combative, continued to throw projectiles, and attempted to grab officers’ weapons, officers then employed the use of smoke canisters and pepper balls. No tear gas was used by USPP officers or other assisting law enforcement partners to close the area at Lafayette Park.” I guess we can’t believe our lying eyes.

In Buffalo, the police shoved a 75-year-old man to the ground, cracking his head open and then walking away without checking on his condition. One policeman attempts to check on the man but another cop pulls him away. The police department’s excuse? The man tripped. That’s not one “bad apples” statement. Again, it’s from the entire department.

From police in New York City driving into a crowd of protesters to cops in Louisville shooting pepper-spray balls at journalists to cops beating unarmed and peaceful protesters, the police are out of control. Donald Trump is shouting about being the “law and order” president, but this isn’t law and order.

Police brutality is worse than riots. It’s worse than looting. Why? Because the police have sworn to protect us. They’ve sworn to protect protesters. Even when those protesters are protesting against the police. Don’t forget this entire thing started because of police killing an unarmed black man.

Republicans want to dehumanize and vilify George Floyd and protesters. Why do you think they want to vilify Black Lives Matter? Why do they want to label anyone fighting for equal rights as a villain? Think about that.

From what I can see, and saw in person, the ones without humanity are the ones wearing badges.

Who Dat Say What?

cjones06072020

Since New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees seems to be having a little trouble understanding things at the moment, let me put this in a way he can understand: What he said yesterday was more damaging, detrimental, and heartbreaking to the city of New Orleans and fans of the Saints than Bountygate.

If you don’t remember Bountygate, then you’re not a Saints fan. Between 2009 and 2011, during which the team won the Super Bowl, the Saints conducted a scheme where players were paid bonuses under the table, bounties, to knock specific opposing players out of games. Those targeted included quarterback Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, and during the playoff run to their Super Bowl win, Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals, and Brett Favre of the Minnesota Vikings. Saints coach Sean Payton was suspended for a year and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended for life which in the NFL, is at least two years. Other coaches and officials for the team were suspended as well. It cost the team several draft picks and possibly another Super Bowl.

Yeah, Drew. Your comments are possibly worse than all that. Bountygate hurt. What you said is a knife in the back.

Drew Brees is a hero to New Orleans. He didn’t just resurrect the Saints, one of the most historically inept franchises in NFL history, but an entire city.

It took the Saints 20 seasons before even making the playoffs. It took them 34 seaons to win a game in the playoffs. They were worst than the Browns. Fans would wear paper sacks over their heads to games with “Aint’s” written on them. “Who dat?” was the biggest joke in the NFL. Who dat saying they gonna beat them Saints? Everybody and everybody did. Tampa Fucking Bay won a Super Bowl before the Saints.

Then hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 and devastated the city. The team’s home field, the Super Dome, was used as a shelter for the poorest in the city, mostly African-American residents, who couldn’t flee the disaster. The Dome and the entire city were left devastated. It was so bad, many felt the city couldn’t rebuild. The team owner even contemplated giving up on the city and moving the team to San Antonio. Texas. My Saints in Texas? You son of a…

Then Drew arrived in free agency.

The team and the city rallied around Drew Brees. And Drew gave the love back. He was a big supporter and champion of the city, visiting children in hospitals, and raising millions of dollars for charities. And he led the Saints to their first, and so far, only Super Bowl. Drew could have been mayor of New Orleans, governor of Louisiana, and Senator, probably all at the same time. New Orleans and Louisiana LOVE Drew Brees. Drew helped the city rally around the Saints, whose success helped convince the city it could be rebuilt.

And then yesterday, he went and insulted not just every black fan of the Saints, but every black American in this nation. New Orleans is 60% black. Yesterday, Drew Brees blew them off.

Today, Drew apologized. He said, “In an attempt to talk about respect, unity, and solidarity centered around the American flag and the national anthem, I made comments that were insensitive and completely missed the mark on the issues we are facing right now as a country.”

Yeah, he totally missed the mark. Drew said he would “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag.”

The protests currently going on in over 100 cities in this nation over a cop murdering an unarmed black man has brought back what Colin Kaepernick protested against, for which he’s still blackballed today from the National Football League. For people like Drew Brees, he’s saying you can’t protest by marching in the streets and you can’t do it quietly by kneeling during the national anthem. Hey, white people…when can black people protest? Oh, never?

Never speaking out for what’s right has helped Drew become worth over $120 million. Kaepernick can’t get a tryout. Drew speaks from a privileged and comfy position of whiteness.

One of the reasons Brees is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history is because he’s so smart. He’s one of the smartest guys in the league. And yet, his comments yesterday exhibit an unawareness, stupidity, and the sort of white privilege you would expect from…I hate to say it…a MAGAt. Ew!

Drew’s comments came from white privilege. It’s a white privilege not to understand and talk about what you don’t understand. Colin Kaepernick didn’t protest the flag or the national anthem. Are you paying attention? He protested against this nation’s long history and current state of systematic injustice to black Americans.

Lebron James said, “WOW MAN!! Is it still surprising at this point. Sure isn’t! You literally still don’t understand why Kap was kneeling on one knee??”

Richard Sherman of the 49ers said, “That uncomfortable conversation you are trying to avoid by injecting military into a conversation about brutality and equality is part of the problem.”

Retired player Julius Peppers said, “If you’re still talking about players “disrespecting the flag” by kneeling during the national anthem clearly you’re not ready for these conversations. Call a time out and come back later.”

Current free agent Damon Harrison Sr. said, “How can you be in the locker rooms, speaking to the players, know the reasoning, and yet still be dumb enough to believe it’s about the flag. Like HOW???? He should know better than that. He just doesn’t care. Damn man not Drew…”

Retired player Douglas Baldwin Jr said, “The reason my children have to live in a world that won’t empathize with their pain is because people like you are raising your children to perpetuate the cycle. Drew, you are the problem.”

Devin and Jason McCourty, twins who both play for the Patriots, said,  “To speak about your grandfathers as if there weren’t black men fighting next to them. Those men later returned to a country that hated them. Don’t avoid the issue and try to make it about a flag or the military. Fight like your grandfathers for what’s right!”

His own teammate, Michael Thomas, said, “He don’t know no better.”

When I walked with protesters earlier this week in New York City, I was thanked more than once by black protesters for being there with them. They thanked me for using my white privilege. That didn’t make me unique as it was very much a multi-racial crowd. The only people who made me fear for my safety were the police. Black Americans need white Americans to use their white privilege to help them, especially people with loud voices like Drew Brees. Ending this nation’s racism helps all of us. We can’t afford to sit on the sidelines because the system isn’t coming after us.

Well, maybe Drew Brees can afford to since his net worth is estimated at $120 million. I guess when you’re extremely rich, white, and male then you can afford to not get it.

I spent the majority of my childhood and teen years in Louisiana cheering for the Saints. Nobody was happier or more excited than I was over the Saints’ Super Bowl victory. I cheered, rooted for, and respected Drew Brees. I have always been thankful for him. Now, I’m just disgusted. Drew, you make me sick.

Danielle, a friend of mine posted on one of my Facebook comments yesterday and said, “I live in Louisiana… currently in Baton Rouge, but 28 years in New Orleans.
Saints season ticket holder for a while until I could no longer justify the cost, as a public school teacher.
I was there when they beat Atlanta to reopen the Dome following ‘she who shall not be named’. I was there when they unfurled the Super Bowl champions banner at the start of the 2010-11 season. I literally danced on a cop car in the French Quarter after they won the NFC championship, and a cop held his hand out to help me down.
Michael Thomas was being diplomatic…. Drew *does* know better; he just chooses to not BE better.

Fuck Drew Brees.”

Another Antifa Terrorist

cjones06062020

Last Sunday, Donald Trump tweeted, “The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.”

Trump’s tweet is more catnip for his base than policy. In fact, it’s not a policy because there is no real Antifa.

Conservatives love to say “antifa.” They don’t know what it means but they love it. They group all left-wing protesters in with Antifa and blame liberals for them. Antifa is a loose movement, not an organization. The people who usually describe themselves as Antifa often side with liberal ideals, like cops killing unarmed black men is wrong, but they engage in more hostile actions. While liberals want to elect better politicians and make policy changes, Antifa believes change only comes through anarchy and destruction. They break stuff and burn shit down. They want to see the world burn, much in the same way Donald Trump does. They are more anarchist than liberal. No liberal would EVER burn down a Starbucks. That would be like Geraldo Rivera burning down a Hooters.

I walked at least 30 blocks with protesters Monday night. I encountered them again through the walk back to my hotel. Everyone I talked and listened to was talking about change with policy. They talked about police reform. When they talked about rioting, it was, “Don’t do it.”

I did encounter looters. I saw a few people throw water bottles but honestly, I think they came from the windows above us and were aimed at the protesters. The looters I ran into were few. The protesters were in the thousands. I saw fewer than ten looters. In fact, maybe I saw five. I know there was more looting and vandalism in the city than five people, but they are still a minority among protesters. The people marching, even the ones saying hostile things to police and back and forth chants like, “NYPD/Suck My Dick,” are not Antifa in the way Donald Trump and Republicans like to describe them. None of them talked about hurting anyone. But they are antifascist.

As I said, Republicans love to use antifa as a boogeyman. Donald Trump seeks to use antifa to further the divide and fear in this nation. Donald Trump runs on fear. His idiot son and namesake, Donald Trump Jr. shared a screenshot on Instagram of a tweet from an antifa organization calling for violence. But, because he’s a racist idiot like his father, he was unaware there are no antifa organizations and what he shared was a fake account from…wait for it…a white nationalist group. Did Donald Trump Jr. later clarify, issue a correction, and apologize? What do you think? I bet the 2.8 million followers of his on Instragram, at least the ones who aren’t bots, still believe it was a real tweet from Antifa.

Antifa is anti-fascist. That’s why Donald Trump doesn’t like them and his designation of them as a terrorist organization is complete bullshit. You can’t designate an organization as a terrorist group if there’s no organization. He may as well label the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz as a terrorist organization. Basically, it’ll be a Trump tweet designation but no official government designation. But it’ll still go over well with his hateful base, especially with the racists, and they’ll believe it’s an official government declaration.

Donald Trump is supported by racists and Donald Trump supports them back. They may be the only group he’s truly loyal to. While he’s pandering to the religious right with a photo-op in front of a church he doesn’t attend with a Bible he’s never read, he believes in the racist agenda. He defends tiki-torch Nazis, makes racist comments, retweets racist organizations, and quotes distinguished racists from history. David Duke rejoiced and said it was the best thing for his racist cause when Donald Trump claimed there were “good people” marching with Nazis.

Attacking Antifa is a great way for Donald Trump to distract for white nationalists. Right-wing extremists, white nationalists, and neo-Nazis are responsible for the majority of terrorist attacks in this country. No conservative talks about that. And, unlike Antifa, they’re organized. They have leaders. Their little groups have names, chapters, uniforms, and people are designated with ranks. Donald Trump doesn’t tweet against white nationalists. You’ll never see a Trump tweet against Proud Boys. Instead, he hires white nationalists to create immigration policy in the White House.

Donald Trump is a racist and a white nationalist. Donald Trump is the biggest supporter of America’s most dangerous terrorists. He won’t even criticize them in a tweet.

Donald Trump is a fascist. While he’s screaming about violent anti-fascist, he’s tear-gassing and flash bombing peaceful protesters for a photo-op while curfews are going up and people are being arrested for going outside at night. This is fascism.

I refuse to lie down and allow the fascists to have this country. While I don’t believe in or encourage violence I am anti-fascist and I will continue to oppose the right-wing, militant, nationalistic, xenophobic, racist policies of Donald Trump.

I am Antifa. Come get me.

Trump Is A Gas Gas Gas

cjones06052020

Do you know what Jesus didn’t’ do? Jesus did not do photo-ops.

A lot of politicians do shameless self-promoting photo-ops and grandstanding with religion, churches, and the Bible. But at least those politicians go to church and have at least read parts of the Bible. Hell, even I’ve read a lot of the Bible (I can’t claim I’ve read the entire thing). But Donald Trump, read the Bible? Why would Donald Trump do that when there aren’t any pictures of Donald Trump in the Bible? Donald Trump hasn’t even read his own book.

Donald Trump screamed over a week ago how he was demanding governors to open all their churches or he’d force them to open. When Sunday came, guess who was not in church but on a golf course?

Last weekend, while Donald Trump was tweeting about the “most vicious dogs” and “most ominous” weapons, he was hiding in the White House basement because there were scary black people outside. Last night, I walked with scary black people, and scary white people, scary Latinos, scary Asians, scary LGBTQ, and I gotta say, for a bunch of ANTIFA terrorists, nicest scary people I’ve ever met in my life. Donald Trump is a coward.

Donald Trump spent the week before mocking Joe Biden for staying home and being in his basement. So it was very funny that Trump himself had to hide in his. Reportedly, he didn’t like the impression that presented. So yesterday, a whole bunch of military trucks rolled into the White House grounds as though it was about to be invaded and Donald Trump gave a speech in the Rose Garden about being tough. How he was going to use an 1807 law, that was created to prevent Southern government officials from blocking polling stations from black Americans, to send in the military to fight protesters. Donald Trump said he will “solve” their problem. Donald Trump creates problems. He doesn’t solve them. And those National Guard troops are going to have their hands full with tear-gassing protesters and opening churches.

During his short Rose Garden address, he said he was an “ally of all peaceful protesters.” And then he gassed the peaceful protesters. Do you know who else gassed people? Hitler.

The peaceful protesters outside the White House in Lafayette Square were hit with flash-bang explosions and doused with tear gas by police and the National Guard. You could hear the booms during Trump’s little speech. And since he is a coward, it’s a good thing he wears adult diapers. The protesters were hit before the city’s 7:00 PM curfew. They were being peaceful.

Donald Trump then weebled over to St. John’s, often referred to as the “church of the presidents” because every president since James Madison has attended. The church basement was set on fire the night before. Donald Trump wanted a photo-op with the church and a bible.

Donald Trump gassed a crowd of peaceful protesters for a fucking photo-op. If you still support this racist, vile, disgusting orange shitgibbon, get off my planet.

One reporter asked Donald Trump if the bible he was holding belonged to him. Trump only said, “It’s a Bible.” He knew it was a Bible because someone else told him it was. Also, he knew because he can’t understand anything in it.

The bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington said church officials were not told of the plan and expressed outrage at the White House’s use of riot-control tactics on a generally peaceful crowd to clear a path for the president.

The bishop, Mariann E. Budde, said, “He did not pray. He did not mention George Floyd, he did not mention the agony of people who have been subjected to this kind of horrific expression of racism and white supremacy for hundreds of years. We need a president who can unify and heal. He has done the opposite of that, and we are left to pick up the pieces.”

She also said, “The Bible is not an American document. It’s not an expression of our country. It’s an expression of the human struggle to serve and love and know God.”

The Trump 2020 Campaign said it wasn’t a staged photo-op shortly before releasing a slow-motion video, despite him already being in slow motion, of Donald Trump strolling to the church to the music of Rage Against the Machine (I can’t wait to hear what Tom Morello has to say about that). They really do not get it. What are they going to play next, “Anarchy in the UK?” “What’s Going On?” “Sunday Bloody Sunday?” “Fortunate Son?” “You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party?” “Say It Loud, I’m Black And I’m Proud?”

Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump. He was worried about looking like a coward. He is a coward. He’s a product of reality TV and the last thing involved with reality TV is reality. Just like reality TV not being reality, President (sic) Donald Trump is not a president. Donald Trump is an abject failure of a president and human being.

Donald Trump will tear this country apart for a moment of reality TV. Donald Trump has set the nation on fire and he’s happily watching it burn.

MAGA Night

cjones06032020

Tonight and every night that’s featured protests turning into riots have been another opportunity for Donald Trump to fail as a president.

As the nation burns from riots in every major city, Donald Trump is tweeting partisan attacks at Democratic mayors, quoting racists from history with, “When the looting starts, the shooting starts, and tweeting about “vicious dogs” and “Ominous weapons.”

It’s appropriate that Donald Trump said tonight will be “MAGA night.” MAGA night is the night the nation is on fire.

I heard from a MAGAt tonight on Twitter who said he was getting popcorn to watch “libtards” burn down their cities. Like Trump, he loves being divisive. Like Trump, he doesn’t get that the cities are in his country.

It’s nearly midnight and Donald Trump has yet to call for calm or offer anything assuring. He’s failed to be a leader. But he’s succeeded at being a racist and divider. He’s succeeded at only caring about Donald Trump.

These riots aren’t just a reflection of this nation’s racism. It’s a reflection of Donald Trump because America’s racism gave us Donald Trump.

The nation is burning. While some liberals may be enjoying the show of resistance against authority, MAGAts are enjoying it more because MAGAts don’t love their country.

Donald Trump said, “MAGA loves the black people,” as though “MAGA” is a noun now. “MAGA” is an acronym just like “KKK.” Neither of those “loves the black people.”

This is part of Donald Trump’s legacy. He’s too stupid to realize that…just like he’s too stupid to hide his racism.

Maga Monkeys

cjones04232020

As I’m sure you’re aware of now, the MAGAt teabagger gang is at it again.

Trump cultists are protesting the government’s stay-at-home orders in several states. They’re anxious to get the economy rolling again, to get back to work, to resume earning a living, and to just get out of the house. We all have that frustration. We all want to earn a living, feed our families, and pay our bills. That’s not partisan.

But, there’s something else to these protests. They’re partisan. Wanting to restart the economy shouldn’t be partisan or red versus blue. But you kinda think it is when they’re flying Confederate flags with their protests. You kinda think it is when they’re carrying guns. You kinda think it is when they’re calling their Democratic governor a Nazi and a fascist. Mostly, you kinda get the impression it’s partisan when they’re wearing and flying pro-Trump signs.

I think my favorite sign has been one that said “Make American Great Again” and “Keep America Great.” Well, which is it? How do we make America great again if it’s already great? How do we keep it great when we haven’t made it great yet?

But then again, these are Trump cultists and there’s not a lot they do that makes sense. For example: They’re protesting for Donald Trump and against his recommendations. The White House issued the recommendation for Americans to self-isolate and quarantine themselves. That’s what they’re protesting while waving MAGA signs. Of course, being a hypocrite and contradiction has always been the hallmark of being a MAGAt shitweasel fucknut. They’re all patriots who ignore Russia attacking our election. They support our troops while supporting Donald Trump’s attacks on Gold Star families, his statement that POWs are “only war heroes because they got captured,” and he only likes people who “aren’t captured.”

These protests aren’t organic. They’ve been organized by right-wing Facebook groups, InfoWars, Fox News, 4chan, and…wait for it…Donald Fucking Trump. Trump advisor Stephen Moore compared them to Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks stood against discrimination. These fruit loops don’t get that they’re not being discriminated against as we’re ALL being told to stay at home. Also, this is a group that’s 99% white. If they’re Rosa Parks then I’m Gandhi, which I’m not because I had two BLT sandwiches last night. Plus, I’m not bald and I don’t walk around wearing nothing except for one of Dr. Birx’s tablecloths.

The biggest instigator for this is Donald Trump. If he was a true leader, he’d tell them to go home and stay home. But no. While arguing that Nancy Pelosi is playing “partisan politics,” he’s sending tweets encouraging attacks against Democratic governors. While everyone is being told to stay home, in states with Democratic and Republican governors, Trump only focused on those with Democrats. He tweeted, “Liberate Michigan” which is governed by Democrat Gretchen Whitmer. He tweeted, “Liberate Minnesota” which is governed by Democrat Tom Walz. “He tweeted, “Liberate Virginia” which is governed by Ralph Northum. The other thing these states have in common is that they’re viewed as swing states.

In addition to tweeting out those attacks, Trump is calling for “liberating” Virginia because of new gun measures…none of which has anything to do with the pandemic (other than indoor gun ranges being deemed “unessential”). Also, I don’t think Virginia is a swing state anymore. While I do believe a Republican can win here statewide, not in the era of Trump. The Republican who has the longest shot of winning Virginia is Donald Trump. No thank you, Mr. Trump, but please, go ahead and waste a lot of money and time here.

Donald Trump could not tell you how the gun laws in Virginia violate the Second Amendment, but he likes to say it does. He also says many of the governors have gone “too far” and that they’ve been “tough” on their people, but he couldn’t tell you how.

Donald Trump refused to tell the protesters to go home. He even said they look responsible and they were social distancing. If you’ve seen photos of the protests, that’s a lie. They are not social distancing and most aren’t wearing masks. Some of my favorites are the guys holding signs saying the coronavirus is a hoax while wearing face masks. If it’s a hoax, then why are you wearing a mask? Again…Trump cultists.

If Donald Trump really wants to support these covidiots, then he needs to go out there and mingle with them. Just stay six feet apart. I’m sure he’ll be fine. But better yet, work on testing.

Donald Trump said, “everyone who needs a test gets a test.” That’s not true and we’re only testing about 50,000 a day. We need to test 50 million a day. Now Trump says it’s the states’ job to test and to acquire the tests. He’s not “responsible.” But, it’s obviously easier to divide the nation with tweets of  “liberation” than doing your job. It’s easier to hold daily mini-MAGA rallies with no real updates other than Donald Trump explaining the difference between a cotton swab and a Q-tip.

There are two sets of people working to get us back out there and reopen the economy. Those are essential workers, who are risking their lives, and those who are staying home. Staying home is working and it’s flattening the curve. These people who are going out and protesting, they’re working against us being able to go out and work and spend money. What they’re doing is a slap in the face to everyone who’s trying to end this.

While people are risking their lives so you can buy groceries, these idiots are risking all of our lives to promote their Dear Leader. They are a disgrace to America and everyone who’s doing their part to end this pandemic.

If you’re out there protesting, I respect your right to protest but I don’t respect you or what you’re doing. But then again, you already disrespected everything this nation stands for by voting for Donald Trump. You are all bad Americans.

If you wanna stop staying home, then stay home. And if you really want to get this nation rolling again, stop being Donald Trump’s flying monkeys. Or more specifically in your case, stop being Donald Trump’s flying fucknuts.

Trump Riot

cjones11112016

I had another idea I was fully committed to drawing until I thought of this about an hour before I went to work.

In the original idea I was going to point out that the people complaining about protesters and how they should accept their new president, never really accepted President Obama.

While they’re calling today’s protesters “whiny,” “sniveling,” and “crybabies,” Republicans spent eight years questioning Obama’s legitimacy. They accused him of being Muslim (as if that’s a disqualifier), questioned if he was born in this country, questioned his patriotism, and are still denying a hearing for his nominee to the Supreme Court.

Protesters have a right to protest. They’re opposing a man who ran promising to be a fascist. He even questioned why he couldn’t be a fascist, saying we shouldn’t even have the election, just give him the job. They’re protesting a man who started his campaign with racism and continued it with racism.

This man championed the birther movement for years. He accused Mexico of sending us rapists and murderers. He proposed a ban on Muslims and a police state monitoring them. He wants to deport Latinos and rip families apart. He said a man can’t sit as judge on his scam university trial because that man is of Mexican heritage. Simply put, a lot of people are not comfortable with Cheeto Hitler.

While conservatives are complaining about protesters you’re not hearing any of them telling the Ku Klux Klan not to hold their Trump victory parade in December in North Carolina. You don’t hear them bemoaning attacks by Trump supporters on gays and other minorities. I haven’t heard one of them criticize Trump supporters for sprawling Swastikas on walls and telling Muslims and Mexicans to flee for their lives. I haven’t heard one Republican talk about any of this.

So while there has been some violence and destruction by the protest, I support their right to protest. I don’t support their blocking traffic and impeding others. That’s not the way to get people on your side. And blocking traffic is so Chris Christie like.

The protesters have a point as they’re protesting a wannabee-fascist who most of the country did not vote for. He actually received fewer votes than Clinton, though he once tweeted that the “electoral college will destroy democracy.” Hey, that’s a more honest tweet than his return-to-twitter tweet accusing the protesters of being “professional protesters,” ignoring the fact they’ve been spontaneous. So much for winning making Trump more charming or honest.

They are also protesting a man who asked Russia to help him win the election, who received help from Russia to win the election, and as is now revealed, communicated with Russia during the campaign. Put that in your borscht and smoke it.

So if you wanna protest, protest. I don’t see why their rights should be any less than those given to the KKK. And if you attend a protest and you’re a pollster, you might wanna keep that to yourself.

Identified The Problem

cjones08192014

This is America, the land of the free.  Right?  We enjoy the most press freedom in the world…..uh…not really.  A few other countries, not many, are rated at being better than we are at press freedom.  What’s going on in Ferguson might knock us further back.

Right now the First Amendment is taking a huge hit in Missouri.  Reporters and photographers are being arrested.  The press is being told where to go and where they can’t go.  The press has been tear gassed.  A no-fly zone for the media has been placed over Ferguson so news helicopters can’t cover the story.  And I believe for the very first time ever, Amnesty International has boots on the ground in the United States monitoring a situation.

The majority of Americans don’t trust the news.  But you can’t have a free country without it.  Do you want the subjects of a story dictating how the story is covered?

I think it’s bizarre that gun lovers who constantly cry for the 2nd amendment and hate big government are the first to poop on the first amendment and defend the police without question.
