Christy is the guy, he has the office and he’ll do what he can to keep it. It’s sort of like what Conservatives (of an earlier iteration) said about Nixon. “I never liked his Conservative Bona Fides UNTIL Watergate!”

Christie is gaining in popularity because he can claim the victim card.

GWTollgate is a great distraction for Christie (which he, being a sharp politician will put to good use) in that the guy has REAL baggage that he can now claim is just part of the “Vast Left Wing Conspiracy” against him when/if it comes up.

In “Conspiracy mode” it is very possible that Christie gets the Nom and it is possible that he wins the election. Then the Red party can continue it’s project of drowning government in the bathtub… And they can blame it all on that “North east elite” Christie! That way the Southern Reds can claim innocence.

That’s what they did with W.. That’s what they did with McCain. Romney was just not bright enough to see that he was being scammed by the Red party. Nor did he care. He figured that if he won his legacy was set anyway (first Mormon) and that he’d cross that bridge (the “you’re the president when it all goes to poop” bridge) when he go to it.
