  1. Let’s see how this works It’s directed at my good friend and sparring partner Enoki.

“Then the 27 to 34 year olds figured out it is cheaper to pay the penalty, assuming that it is even enforced, than get a policy so they let their economically rational choice vote for them.” Said Enoki, thinking it was intelligent.

    And I replied

    With these BIG exceptions.

27 – 34 year olds are generally young couples with children on the way. So how is it “economically rational” for them to be without health insurance?

Answer: It is NOT. So why do you spout this line of reasoning? It doesn’t work in the real world.

Before this is your cogent remark that part of the “problem” is that a large number of 0-26 year olds are covered under Mom/Dad’s policy. Anecdotally that has some legs, but there are plenty of parents that don’t even want to share a mobile phone contract with their children and/or are uninsured themselves. For me, I’ll keep my children covered as long as I can, but that’s because of the relationship I have with my children. Although it is not necessarily the best idea.

For example, I have a daughter that needs a good gastroenterologist . The ones we’ve tried have had their own issues (I guess if a large part of your job is scoping people’s rear ends, it tends to corrupt your people skills.) We found one highly praised for her talent as well as her manner. But she doesn’t accept our insurance.

I thought about going to the exchange and getting a policy for my daughter (and taking her off my policy) It’s probably close to an economical alternative (versus paying for the Dr. out of pocket.

Points being, this idea that young people don’t need health insurance is so much crap! I have a daughter that sprained her ankle what three years ago and is still wearing a boot because the sprain triggered a condition (RSD) which has cost me thousands of dollars so far with zero improvement. (What a great medical system we have!)

It is irresponsible to the point of unconscionable that the Reds (solely in order to win an election) encourage the thought that young people oughtn’t be insured.

  2. Well, the link only kinda worked @ Northern Redman

    That’ll work better.

“Create any scenario and people will always follow what is in their own best financial interest regardless of political ideology.” Northern Redman said, thinking he was being perfectly rational.

“Could you be more wrong?” ReasonsVentriloquist asked rhetorically.

    Knock Knock
    Who’s there?
    Northern Redman
    Northern Redman who?
I don’t know Clay, but I do know this: (thanks Chevy) (Not at all related to the Camaro references of the past)

People work against their “best financial interest” all of the time. You’ve heard of the credit card industry? You’ve heard of consumerism? You’ve heard of Las Vegas? Need I say more?

You’re just flat out Wrong Redman, north south east and west, wrong wrong wrong and wrong.

  3. @Enoki

    “… they cannot afford it…”

Definition of terms here. Afford. Have at one’s disposal the resources to purchase.

The question of affordability is often priority. If you need to choose between 250 channel cable subscription with the deluxe movie and sports package or Health Insurance, how many are going to say “I can’t afford the health insurance” and keep the TeeVee?

    “…particularly couples and families.”

Oh! So now you’re in favor of people starting and raising families that can’t afford to do so. And where do you stand on Food Stamps to these families that have fallen on these hard times.

Your position is pure bullshit! it is a straw man constructed on the worst case scenarios and twisted logic. It is not intended to understand or better the situation it is ONLY to justify the amoral position of the Red party.

I don’t like Obamacare. Never did. Spoke out against it while he was running for the nomination. But it is better than the “system” we had before.

“But but they had insurance and now they don’t!” Blame the fucking doctors! Blame the fucking hospitals, Blame the fucking Pharmaceutical companies that sell the same drug to Single Payer nations for pennies on the dollar of what they are fucking you and me for.

You and I and all of Americans are subsidizing the prescription drug prices of countries all around the world. You are sending money (through the drug companies) to China, to Iran, to Russia, to Germany (so they can sell products to use at lower prices because their companies don’t have to pay the same for their prescription drugs) If that doesn’t piss you off then you are dead from the neck up!

In this economy, where pensioned public employees have had to take a cut in benefits because of the cost of health care has risen at a multiple of the rate of inflation (not to mention that the pension assumptions expected 10% per year growth in the stock market , which they didn’t get, and 7% on long term Government bonds, which is not a number that is available) Doctors and Hospitals and Pharma are demanding rate increases. And you’re blaming “government” and Obama.

What a fucking sap you are! And they’re tapping you alright!

  4. “So you don’t act in your own best financial interest? Sounds like you will never accumulate enough wealth for a comfortable retirement.

Let me ask you this. Do you ever claim less deductions on your tax returns so that you can pay more tax? You know the government could use more of your money better than you can..” Posted by NorthernRedman

Well, first off, those are not mutually exclusive scenarios. I make enough that I can fuck up pretty royally and still come up smelling rosy.

Secondly, this discussion isn’t about “Me” it is about the population of America. You said that “People” implying all people not some of a few or most or well, truth is you mean you. It is common for people to project their thoughts upon the general public (what’s even more common is that people will project what they feel guilty for upon the general public, that’s why so many preachers are sinners). The evidence is overwhelming that “people” don’t act in their own best financial interest. Did you fucking notice the mortgage meltdown? Did you notice the number of good people that overleveraged themselves because some mortgage guy on the phone told them that this was a No Income Verification loan so they could take as much as they needed/wanted. And people did it. So don’t come around with your Bullshit about how “people will always follow what is in their own best financial interest regardless of political ideology.”

As to money and the government and your reference to the tired Red party Redoric(c) -DPRis1FunnyMoFo, inc, 2014 – of “the gubmint thinks it can spend your money better than you can.” First off, you don’t know how money works (I can tell because of the Redoric you used). Second if you’ve seen an H&R Block ad, Americans leave about $1B on the table from taking less deductions than they deserve. So , so much for your analogy.
