The South Carolina legislature will vote this week to reduce funding for two universities for requiring all their freshmen students to read books with gay themes. These schools assign a book every year, semester or something like that. This time two of the books have gay themes.
The sponsor or the bill says the university could offer an alternative to these books. I would agree with that, but these people wanting to punish the school never yelled for an alternative in the past or cared who was reading what. They probably weren’t even aware of the program. Anyway, I don’t remember ever getting out of a reading assignment in high school or college. They all seemed kind of forced. I just read the material because reading is not hard.
I think every state should pass a law that no laws shall pass to ban or punish for the use of books, unless each person voting to ban the reading material has actually read the material they’re attempting to ban.
