Of course Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty can express any opinion he wants. He has freedom of speech and his has not been violated. He hasn’t been thrown into prison. He’s just been suspended from his hit TV show. While Robertson is free to express his opinion, his network has the freedom to cut him from his show.
A lot of people share Robertson’s opinion. He and his defenders justify his opinion by pointing out it’s from the Bible. I’m sure the Westboro crowd has the same defense. Are you a true Christian if you base your prejudice on the Bible and your god?
Let’s see Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana, defend the Westboro people. Palin is all for freedom of speech unless someone criticizes her. You didn’t see her defending Martin Basher when he was fired from MSNBC for his negative comments on Palin.
While defending Robertson’s freedom of speech his supporters are also defending the points he made. He compares homosexuals to people who sleep around and to those who sleep with animals. He says they don’t have Jesus, like the Nazis didn’t have Jesus and Muslims don’t have Jesus. He’s thrown homosexuals and Muslims in with Nazis. Nice. He also said blacks were happy and better off before Civil Rights and stated “no one was singing the blue.” That’s not just prejudice, that’s ignorance.
I don’t have any problem with anyone defending Robertson’s freedom of speech. I don’t even care if he’s not fired. I don’t watch his show (even though it’s based in the Parish I’m from). I have a problem with people defending hatred.
