McDonnell’s Christmas

The Justice Department decided to hold of on indicting McDonnell until next year which means he won’t be Virginia’s first sitting governor to be indicted.

Governor Bob McDonnell is in hot water over the accusation of receiving gifts and steering state business toward a buddy, now a former buddy.  Of course he’s innocent until proven guilty.  But an indictment is coming.

McDonnell’s lawyers went to the United States Justice Department last week and made a pitch to hold off on the indictment until he’s out of office.  Their argument was that it would hurt state business, governing and the transition of incoming governor Terry McAuliffe.  This really makes a lot of Democrats mad because they want him indicted now and to carry the disgrace of the first sitting governor to be indicted.

I don’t mind them holding off on the indictment.  It’s better to be safe than sorry in case his lawyers are right.  McDonnell isn’t going to flee the country.  The indictment is coming eventually.  There will be a trial.  There will be plenty of headlines.  Waiting a month or two won’t change anything other than that sitting governor indicted stigma.

Will McDonnell go to prison?  Remains to be seen.  Hell, he could be found not guilty.  I doubt it.  What sort of punishment he receives is purely speculative at this time.

One of the gifts McDonnell received was a $6,500 Rolex.  That might come in handy as it seems the clock is ticking.  Haha!!!  See what I did there?  Yeah, fun stuff.
