Yes, Virginia…But No

The Pope recently made a papal statement about the “utter evils of capitalism.”  Well that led Rush Limbaugh to say that leads to “just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the Pope.”   Several other conservative commentators chimed in with similar comments dissing the Pope for caring about the poor.

In the 1980’s the GOP pretended to care about the poor by saying if the rich get richer, then the poor and middle class will increase their income also, thus called “trickle down economics.”  That’s a great theory and I would be all behind it if it actually worked.  That philosophy was implemented by Reagan over 30 years ago and it’s still not working.

The Republican party keeps showing they don’t care about the poor, among other groups.  They yell to cut welfare while ignoring corporate welfare.  Corporate welfare is almost double social welfare.  We don’t mind giving very rich corporations, like oil companies, huge tax breaks and outright cash gifts from taxpayers while we rush to make sure someone with three kids isn’t a drug addict while taking $150 a week.  Maybe we should drug test every CEO of each company that receives taxpayer money and tax breaks.

And if the Pope is a Communist, what does that make Jesus and as my cartoon asks, Santa Claus?
