Don’t Tase Me, FPD

Last week the Fredericksburg Police Department tased the passenger of a car accused of hit and run on Hanover Street in downtown.  The passenger allegedly try to flee and an officer was caught on a smart phone camera tasing the guy for 42 seconds.  The city says one pull of the trigger emits a tase of five seconds.  They also say  the use of force policy states that, “A subject fleeing from an officer, by itself, is not justification for the Taser to be deployed and is prohibited.”  There is now an internal investigation and the officer involved in the incident is on administrative duty pending the outcome.

I don’t know what’s right and wrong here.  Someone may have been breaking the law but there is such a thing as fair treatment.  I’ve never been tased before but it doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, whether it’s five seconds or 42.

The city is also raising court fees to pay for the new courthouse downtown.  You’ve probably seen the construction of it. That thing is huge.

Hey, I drew another rough.
