Once upon a time Virginia’s Governor Elect wrestled an alligator to raise campaign money. He won. It’s a wait to see approach as he ventures toward many upcoming battles with Virginia’s General Assembly dominated by Republicans.
The Virginia Republicans have taken a “let’s not work with him” strategy, adopting the national party’s stance with Obama being the party of no. The state Republicans feel there were burned by working with then Governor Mark Warner passing transportation plans and stuff like that. Warner’s governorship received high marks in the polls and he went on to cake walk into a United States Senatorial seat. The GOP feels accomplishments should now take a back seat to politics. The General Assembly didn’t fare too bad during the Warner administration. The GOP still dominates the General Assembly and most people appreciated the way they worked with the governor.
All that said, who knows if Terry McAuliffe even knows how to run a state. States are usually run like businesses and Terry has pretty much ran every business he’s touched into the ground while walking away with millions. Funny that business leaders usually make great governors but lousy presidents.
I used to post roughs on this blog like crazy. I haven’t posted any since my return as I haven’t had any roughs. Each rough has turned into the final cartoon. Not today’s cartoon. I was kinda stressed to get an idea for this Sunday’s edition. I think drawing 10 cartoons in one night for the live blog drained me a little. But I got this idea in the shower Thursday morning and I when I had about ten minutes to spare later in the morning, I drew the rough in my car. After more than twenty years drawing cartoons that’s the first time I’ve ever done that.
