Voting Rights Act

Exclusively Fox

Cjones05092021

How much longer before we see a live execution on Fox & Friends? Now that South Carolina is going to start executing people by firing squad, any day now. South Carolina’s excuse is that it’s harder to get the chemicals for lethal injections and since this is Murica, there will never be a supply problem with bullets. Here’s another solution: Stop killing people.

Fox & Friends did get an exclusive today. Florida’s dipshit racist buttface governor, Ron DeSantis signed a new law, making it harder for blacks to vote, live on the air on Fox & Friends…and excluded all other news outlets from viewing the signing.

Since this was official state business, what right did he have in barring access from a free press? Take note, he also did this just days after World Press Freedom Day.

But the thing is, kids, this isn’t a new law that’s better for Florida or voting rights. If it was, he wouldn’t have made signing such a partisan bill on a political photo-op on Donald Trump’s favorite hater TV show. Now, when he signs the bill making it legal to run over black protesters in your car and murdering them, will he do that live from Mar-a-Lago?

Here’s my wish: The nine-ton Chinese rocket falling from space this weekend lands on Mar-a-Lago.

DeSantis had previously bragged that Florida’s presidential election was a model for the rest of the country. So why is he signing a bill based on bogus Trump bullshit? Donald Trump is not president (sic) anymore. Can we stop having laws designed to kiss his ass?

Since I don’t watch Fox, I can’t be sure…but how much do you want to bet that none of the goons on Fox & Friends stood up for their “journalism” colleagues at other outlets and questioned why they were the only ones present? The odds are better on the Chinese Rocket crashing into Mar-a-Lago.

Why can’t we have the Chinese rocket crashing into Mar-a-Lago while Ron DeSantis is kissing Trump’s ass live on Fox & Friends? Shit like that never happening is what’s keeping me very agnostic.

Hosed In Georgia

Cjones03282021

Georgia went blue in the 2020 elections. The traditionally red state in the deep south gave its 16 electoral votes to Joe Biden and both its Senate seats to Democrats, one Jewish and one black. The changing demographics in Georgia have swung the state, at the very least, purple.

Georgia Republicans responded logically to this shift and decided to pay attention to the changing demographics of their state. They realized they need to appeal to a wider base and expand their platform. The Georgia Republican Party would stop being dictated to by the gun lobby, cease listening only to billionaires, and finally return to being the party of fiscal and moral conservatism instead of a cult in service to an orange racist reality TV host in the church of narcissism. Nah, I’m just kidding.

Instead, Georgia Republicans, seeing that more people in their state don’t want to vote for them, decided to make it harder for the “wrong” people to vote. You know, black people. Republicans don’t want voters to select their leaders. They want Republican leaders to select their voters.

Republicans scream about election integrity but what they really mean is getting rid of all integrity at the polls. Integrity would be counting every vote and encouraging as many eligible people to vote as possible. Integrity would be having faith in democracy. Integrity would be having faith that your message will appeal to a majority of voters.

Georgia Republicans know they can only appeal to white voters. Republicans in every state know this which is why there are currently efforts to restrict voting in 43 states. And yes, all these efforts are designed to restrict and make it harder for some people to vote. Again, the “wrong” people. Every single one of these efforts is racist and a return to Jim Crow.

Trump attorney and ridiculous human being Sidney Powell’s defense for being sued for defamation is that no “reasonable” person could have believed her voter and election fraud bullshit. Yet, Republicans in 43 states are using exactly that to justify making voting harder.

There was no widespread fraud in the 2020 election. There were no hidden boxes of ballots. Voting machines did not switch votes from Trump to Biden. There was no illegal ballot harvesting. Donald Trump did NOT win the election only to have it stolen from him. The election was NOT stolen from Trump by “globalists,” George Soros, President Obama, The Clinton Foundation, Hugo Chavez, China, the “deep state,” or the Smurfs. President Joe Biden won the election because quite simply, more people voted for him than for Donald Trump.

Republicans, without any proof, claimed there was massive fraud and of course, all of it came from black voting districts and precincts. The fact of the matter is, the last time there was enough voter fraud to redo an election, it was because of Republican voter fraud in 2018 for a North Carolina congressional seat. Republicans are basing all these moves to restrict voting on the premise that when more black people vote, there’s less trust in the system.

The new law in Georgia will decrease the number of ballot drop boxes. It will make requirements for voter ID ever more strict for absentee balloting. And (you’re gonna love this) make it illegal to hand out water and snacks to people waiting in line to vote. Shockingly, I’m surprised they didn’t enact a dress code that requires polo shirts, Dockers, and wingtip shoes for voting lines. Aw, shit. Did I just give them an idea?

The new law also expands the Legislature’s power over elections, which has raised worries it could interfere with the vote in predominantly Democratic, heavily Black counties like Fulton and Gwinnett. If the Republican-led legislature doesn’t like the way one district voted, are they going to delete their votes?

Republicans scream everyone needs an identification to vote…and then they make it harder to get an identification. In Alabama, they shut down offices in rural counties for the Department of Motor Vehicles, forcing some citizens to travel long distances to acquire an ID. You know who we’re talking about. Again, black people.

But why make it illegal to hand a bottle of water to someone who’s in line for hours waiting to exercise his or her constitutional right to vote? Do you know where those long lines typically occur? In large cities. We’re not talking about tiny Americus, Georgia. We’re talking about Atlanta. Republicans aren’t just trying to make it more difficult for voters to get into the lines…they’re also discouraging getting into those lines…and staying in them until it’s their turn to vote.

If they were really smart, they’d require giving water, lots of it, to black people in long lines…especially to the people with very weak bladders. Shit. Did I give them another idea?

It’s getting to where Republicans can’t win without suppressing votes. Lying, fear-mongering, and gerrymandering just aren’t enough anymore.

Stacey Abrams might have won the governorship if the Secretary of State at that time, who was also her gubernatorial opponent, hadn’t removed thousands of black voters from the voting rolls. In order to win the governorship, that fucker just deleted all the people who wouldn’t vote for him. Abrams is credited for getting out the black vote for President Joe Biden and her state’s two new Democratic senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.

Ms. Abrams said, “Rather than grappling with whether their ideology is causing them to fail, they are instead relying on what has worked in the past. Instead of winning new voters, you rig the system against their participation, and you steal the right to vote.”

Let’s call it for what it is. These are Jim Crow laws. They are stealing the right to vote. These people who claim they’re constitutionalists are violating their fellow Americans constitutional rights. This is a new way to force black voters to count how many beans are in a jar before they can vote. These changes do not increase security in elections. They do not make it possible for more people to vote. They restrict voting. For the love of God, Georgia has made it illegal to hand out water to voters.

Yesterday, Governor Brian Kemp was signing the law in a room full of smiling old white men, when Representative Park Cannon, who is a black woman, was arrested for knocking on the door. What were the charges?

The charges for arresting Representative Cannon are “obstructing law enforcement officers by use of threats or violence,” which is bizarre because it was caught on camera and there doesn’t appear to be any threats or violence. It’s not like she had a can of bear spray. She faces a second charge of “disrupting general assembly sessions or other meetings of members.” Uh, she is a member of the general assembly. What did she do to disrupt it? Enact a filibuster?

If Georgia is arresting a black woman for knocking on a door over voting rights, what are they going to do to ordinary black citizens?

Congress needs to vote for the Voting Rights Act and stop all these racist laws of voter suppression. In the Senate, Republicans and Democrats both have 50 members, yet Democrats represent 41 million more Americans than Republicans. It’s ridiculous Republicans have so much power. Republicans actually demand that they have more representation than other Americans.

If these laws are not blocked, Republicans will once again win control of the Senate, the House, and put judges on courts (who will block challenges to these racist laws) while representing fewer Americans than Democrats. The Republican Party is NOT the party for the majority of Americans. Creating racist laws to prevent fellow Americans from voting shows the kind of shit they’ll do when they do regain control. Worst yet, these new laws restricting votes may allow them to simply hand Donald Trump the White House in 2024.

These laws are racist. Anyone voting and supporting them is a racist. President Joe Biden and the Democrats in Congress have to make it stop.

Cancel Voter Culture

cjones03082021

Yesterday, one of my cartooning colleagues sent out a call to cartoonists asking if any of us had a Mr. Potato Head and if so, could he borrow it. I do have a Mr. Potato Head and he’s been with me for at least a couple of decades. I don’t remember where or when I bought him. He may have been a gift. I don’t remember. I’m old. But he’s overlooking my desk right now. And no, you can’t borrow him. He’s not going anywhere. I don’t know what my friend’s plans are for my Mr. Potato Head but I’ll be damned if I let him defile him or risk losing him in the mail. I like my Mr. Potato Head so much that after I moved into this apartment and couldn’t find his hat and mustache, I ordered replacements. Did you know you could do that? I didn’t but there are fuckers on Ebay selling Mr. Potato Head mustaches. That’s a thing.

To my friend, you could just purchase one on Amazon and it’d be at your house probably faster than I could send you mine. You can still purchase a Mr. Potato Head because despite all the Republican outrage, he has NOT been canceled. His big blue shoes are still kicking. Hasbro, the company that makes the toy, is still selling toy potatoes with the Mr. and Mrs. designations. They’re just also creating some playsets that de-emphasize the Mr. and Mrs. Also, it’s a toy of a potato.

This “cancel culture” bullshit has to stop. Most of the time, it doesn’t really exist. It’s like assholes complaining about political correctness. Basically, all political correctness is about is that you stop being an asshole. That’s really it. Now when Republicans scream about “cancel culture,” they’re making themselves out to be the victims when they’re really the perpetrators.

They yell racist shit and spread conspiracy theories, so when they are removed from a social media platform, they scream they’re being victimized. It’s like when someone claims rights for LGBTQ violates their religious freedom to be a bigot.

When you spread conspiracy theories and herd white nationalist terrorists to attack the government, it’s NOT cancel culture when you’re removed from Twitter.

When the company that owns the Dr. Seuss franchise decides to stop selling a few titles because of racist images, that’s not cancel culture. It’s not even a ban. That’s the company making up their own mind, without pressure or threats, to stop selling poisonous and hateful shit to children.

When a warning label is placed on The Muppets, that’s still not cancel culture. Which side were all you jackasses on when Tipper Gore wanted to put labels on Prince’s music? Right now, you’re all freaking out about the WAP song. And how did I reference the WAP song two days in a row?

Cancel culture is when you and your troglodyte buddies canceled Colin Kaepernick because you didn’t like his message. You hated his silent protest so much, you didn’t want him to have a job.

The former cartoonist of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rob Rogers, was “canceled” by his bosses because he refused to stop drawing cartoons criticizing Donald Trump. They fired him. Now, his replacement, a Trump-supporter, is drawing cartoons decrying cancel culture. You can’t make this shit up.

When you and your fellow Karens, who are all white teachers at a private Christian school, lose your jobs for posting a picture on social media holding letters that spell out “Coons,” that’s not cancel culture. That’s you being racist despite your defense you were only trying to spell “raccoons” in a human Scrabble contest and you never knew that word was racist. You’re teachers and you didn’t know “coons” was racist and the five of you together can’t spell “raccoons”? Yesterday, they tried to spell “Schwarzenegger.”

What’s just as racist, even if they don’t use any of the words, is trying to cancel the rights of minority voters. Republicans are racist? That’s not a surprise and you also shouldn’t be surprised that they care a lot more about Muppets, Potato Heads, and other inanimate objects than they care about voting rights.

Republicans in multiple states, especially in states President Joe Biden won that are controlled by Republican legislatures, are trying to disenfranchise millions of voters, specifically black and brown voters. You know, the wrong kind of voters.

Republicans are basing this on “election integrity” which means they want to remove all integrity from elections. Republicans do not want every eligible voter to vote. They’re trying to cut down on the number of ballot drop boxes, limit mail-in voting, hours at the precincts, and make it more difficult for minority voters in rural communities to get government ID cards.

They argue the laws have to be changed because stupid people think there was fraud. But then again, these are the same motherfuckers who want to build a wall in the desert where nobody crosses the border.

Never mind there wasn’t any actual fraud, but hey…if white people feel weird about it, then we need to make it harder for black people to vote. One lawyer arguing Arizona’s case before the Supreme Court actually admitted they needed the laws to change or else they wouldn’t win any elections in the future.

I suck at basketball so if I play Michael Jordon one-on-one, I need to be spotted 50 points and have the game limited to two minutes. Fuck getting better at basketball. Let’s just change the rules so I can win.

States like Arizona and Georgia are going blue. Their demographics are changing and there are more urban voters which typically goes to the Democrats. These states’ populations are increasing with people who are college educated and who don’t vote based on conspiracy theories and they typically don’t vote for Nazi lovers…so yeah, they don’t vote for Republicans. The best way for Republicans to win with these new voters is to not let them vote.

As it turns out, legislators who operate on conspiracy theories can’t win votes from intelligent people. We should not change laws that will disenfranchise millions of voters because you don’t like the outcome of the last election. You lost. Why don’t you try to win the next one by convincing more people to vote for you instead of trying to prevent them from voting?

Maybe instead of disenfranchising millions of minority voters, the Republican Party could try to create policies that appeal to more than just Nazis. Nah, stopping black people from voting is a lot easier.

What you’re trying to do is cancel legitimate voters. You’re trying to cancel a constitutional right.

What a bunch of Mr. Fuck Heads.
