Nazis

Nazi The Equivalence

cjones09032017

At the start of World War II, nearly every Scandinavian country declared neutrality. It only worked out for Sweden. Norway and Denmark were invaded by Germany. Even Iceland didn’t escape, and they were invaded by the good guys when England stormed their shores in what should become a comical movie (go read up on it).

Finland may be the most interesting case. At the start of the war they were opposed to Nazi Germany, as Hitler was aligned with the Soviet Union, Finland’s enemy. Finland attempted to build a defense structure with help from England, to no avail. After Hitler betrayed Stalin, Finland found itself on the same side as the Nazis. This was most peculiar because Finland didn’t send their Jewish population to German concentration camps (many fought for Finland), and they were the only Axis nation that was also a democracy.

Technically, democratic Finland was an enemy of the allies, including the United States. Finland actually succeeded in defending their homeland from the Soviet Union, and never initiated the war, or invaded anyone. However, they still had to pay a cost as they lost ten percent of their land, including their second largest city, and pay war reparations, even though they weren’t the belligerents.

Why did they get lumped in with the bad guys and have to lose so much when all they really wanted to do was protect their homeland? Because they sided with Nazis.

If you’re a conservative or have friends who complain about protesters and activists and throw all the attention on Antifa, or Black Lives Matter, then they’re siding with Nazis too.

Why are conservatives and Republicans more focused on people against fascism and who want cops to stop engaging in police brutality? Because Nazis are closer in alignment to Republican beliefs. That’s not a group you want on your side, so conservatives’ best defense (in their little minds) is to deflect, ignore, and engage in false equivalence.

And, it is a false equivalence but, let’s patronize it for a minute and look at our players.

Black Lives Matter is protesting for an end to police brutality, and are asking for more community oversight of police departments, stricter limits on the use of force, independent investigations of police misconduct, community representation in municipal governments, body cameras, better training, an end to “policing for profit,” demilitarization, and union contracts that don’t protect misbehaving police officers from being held accountable. Seriously, they should not even be in this conversation, but asshole conservatives placed them here.

Antifa is more complicated. Antifa is hard to understand as they don’t understand themselves. There is not a national Antifa organization. It can basically include anyone who is against fascism. Some who label themselves as Antifa do engage in violence and vandalism, such as punching alt-right dickheads and trashing their local Starbucks. While Indiana Jones makes punching Nazis look like an erstwhile endeavor, it’s not something I condone. And, I’ve yet to meet a liberal who wouldn’t get upset if his or her local Starbucks was firebombed. There is a huge difference between being a liberal who really dislikes Donald Trump and anarchists who hurt people and break stuff. The objective of ending fascism is a noble one and I believe we can achieve that goal without torching my favorite spot to get a large mocha (or is it “grande’?”).

So, anarchist who engage in violence and vandalism, cut it out. It really hurts your cause more than it helps…as in, it doesn’t help at all. If anything, it helps Nazis because it gives them footage from Breitbart to share on Facebook.

When you look at the objectives of our three groups here, the equivalence is false. I don’t see a fair comparison between people who want to end police violence and fascism, and assholes who strive for racial superiority who march with tiki torches while shouting “Jews will not replace us” and “blood and soil.” At their very worst, Antifa is punching people and breaking windows while Nazis are driving cars into crowds of people and killing them.

We can denounce the violence committed by some members of the Antifa community, if it is an actual community. I’m not on the email list and I don’t get a newsletter. But, if your focus is on Antifa and not on Nazis or the KKK, you’re enabling the racist.

Pointing and screaming about Antifa may deflect attention from where you’re standing for a while, but eventually, people are going to notice when that spot where you’re standing is among Nazis.

Candy And Nuts And Taylor Swift’s Butt

cjones08202017

Donald Trump does not care if I think he’s a racist. He doesn’t care if you or anyone in the media believes he’s a racist. If a major Republican makes a comment about Trump being a racist, then Trump will probably tweet insults at the guy. But, Donald Trump doesn’t care about us. He has his base…and they’re racist.

That is a major reason why the Trump presidency will only get worse. Trump is only president to his base of sycophants, racists, and Nazi sympathizers and enablers. If Trump left office tomorrow (don’t get excited) to focus on golf and Hope Hicks, he would still go down as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. It’s only going to get worse.

Our narcissist president couldn’t let his phony condemnation on Monday go as is. It was disingenuous. Everyone who is not a Trump sycophant found it dishonest and felt Trump was forced to issue the condemnation of Nazis. On Tuesday, Trump proved all of us correct. He really sympathizes with racists and equates those fighting for equal and civil rights with Nazis.

Trump’s fellow Republicans are dismayed the man couldn’t condemn Nazis without putting equivocations into it. How could the president not even name the hate groups the first time? So, they all rushed out to condemn Nazis and state how everyone should oppose hate…without any of them mentioning the president’s name.

You don’t get points for condemning Nazis. It doesn’t make you brave and it’s easy. Nobody should be awarded for doing the simple thing. It’s not a profile in courage to condemn racists.

And this is where we are. We have cowards running our government. People are not upset that Donald Trump is a racist. They’re upset that the president of the United States is a racist. While it’s easy to say Nazis suck, Republicans are deathly afraid of the Nazi sympathizer in the White House.

Now we don’t really have a president anymore. We don’t have a leader with moral authority. You give that up when you sympathize with Nazis. You give it up when you compare Civil Rights activists with White Supremacists. You lose it when you equate the victim with her murderer. What we are stuck with is a narcissistic racist man-baby with the power of the presidency.

For the next three and a half years, whenever Trump attempts to give the impression he cares about something other than himself, or he’s trying to do the right thing, it will be disingenuous.

It will be as believable as him condemning people who grab Taylor Swift’s butt.

Creative notes and a plug: I had planned to draw this cartoon yesterday, but then Trump conducted his racist train wreck in the lobby of Trump Tower. I’m glad I drew the “permit” cartoon because, wow! The cartoon has over 800 Facebook shares at this point and this website got nearly 4,000 views yesterday. Go, me. I hope people feel as passionately about Taylor Swift’s butt. I know I do.

Frank proofreads the column for me. He’s a few hours behind me as he’s on the West Coast, so if you ever see a mistake here feel free to point it out. We may not have gotten around to making the corrections yet, or we may have missed it as we’re both stupid guys who are easily distracted by things like celebrity butts and sandwiches.

After finding all my goobs in yesterday’s column, Frank told me I should post a link to a story that mentioned me. So, here it is. The Washington Post gave me a small mention in an article yesterday about another cartoonist. It’s kinda cool because, hey, they thought of me.

Our Racist President

cjones08192017

Even though it’s been a while since we’ve had “normal,” yesterday was still a day when you were in disbelief at what you were seeing.

What we saw was the president of the United States display rampant racism and threw shade and cover for White Supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and Neo-Nazis.

Saturday, the president blamed both sides for the violence in Charlottesville. After heated criticism, he returned two days later on Monday to condemn the racists, so we could all make believe our president wasn’t a racist. It didn’t sit well with him. It seemed forced under pressure. On Tuesday, the president proved that to be true and revealed his true feelings on the matter of race.

It’s often been said that when people show you who they are, believe them. Donald Trump showed us who he truly is and it’s not pretty. Before making comments on Monday criticizing racists, Trump attacked a black CEO for leaving his manufacturing council. After condemning racists, Trump retweeted tweets from a racist conspiracy theorist and floated the idea of pardoning the most racist sheriff in the nation, Joe Arpaio of Arizona who was convicted for incarcerating brown people on the suspicion they may be in the nation illegally. Apparently, none of that was good enough for Trump to reaffirm his racist base that he had their back.

Trump was in the lobby of his golden tower in New York City and was supposed to make comments on infrastructure when he took questions from the press, which was a surprise to everyone, including his staff.

First, he said he didn’t condemn Nazis on Saturday because he needed all the facts. The man who waged the birther campaign, claimed he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrate 9/11, claims millions voted illegally, that he had the largest electoral victory and inauguration crowd ever, and that Barack Obama wiretapped him, needed all the facts.

This is a man who reacted swiftly to the Pulse nightclub shooting to use it as an argument for a ban on Muslim refugees, despite the fact the shooter was born in the United States. Trump has tweeted after terrorist attacks in the past way before he had “facts.”

What information did he need on Saturday before he could condemn the KKK and Nazis? Did he need a briefing that Nazis are bad?

Trump defended the racist protesters in that they were fighting against Confederate statues being removed. First, these protests aren’t really about the statues. They are an excuse for racists to march. He said, “Not all of those people were Neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch.” First, if anyone ever tells you “believe me, that check won’t bounce” while giving you a check, that check’s going bouncing.

He claimed there were good people among the White Supremacists. You can have the viewpoint that those statues should remain in place, but if you’re marching with people screaming “blood and soil” and “Jews will not replace us,” you’re NOT a good person. You’re an asshole. What the hell does the statues have to do with Jews anyway?

I saw a political cartoon from a racist conservative arguing for the statues and it stated, “those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.” Hey, good point. On that note, the racist cartoonist should learn some history about those statues and the fact most of them were erected during the Jim Crow era in the early 1900s and during the Civil Rights era of the 1950s and 60s. The KKK is marching so it seems we are doomed to repeat history. The Nazis have also returned and if we’re to repeat history there, they lose.

Trump went on to criticize both sides for the violence in Charlottesville, and blamed the “alt-left.” I haven’t heard anything that stupid since yesterday when a stupid conservative friend of mine on Facebook posted a Ben Shapiro column referring to some protesters as “black nationalists.” If being stupid is painful, that would explain why these guys are so angry.

You’re going to hear the term “alt-left” much more in the future, much like you’re hearing the term “snowflakes” now. It’s a term Sean Hannity loves, which is where Trump most likely got it from.

A note on this “alt-left” horseshit: The Alt-Right coined the term “alt-right.” They also created “alt-left.” Liberals are not calling themselves that because it doesn’t mean anything. To me, “alt-left” describes liberals who love Nirvana and Pearl Jam. It doesn’t exist, like “fake news.”

Trump claimed the “alt-left” was “very violent.” Trump accused people he called the “alt-left” of “swinging clubs” as they “came charging at, as you say, at the alt-right.” He said some of the right-wing members of the crowd in the Virginia park were “bad.” But he added that the other side came “charging in without a permit and they were very, very violent.” Trump must have missed the video where the racists were trying to kill African-Americans in a parking garage, or the fact that a Nazi drove a car into a crowd and killed a young woman, Heather Heyer.

Trump went on to ask “what’s next” regarding to removing statues. He asked if George Washington and Thomas Jefferson statues will be removed since they were slave owners. The man doesn’t understand history or why the Confederate statues are offensive.

Washington and Jefferson did not commit treason and fight against the United States. The Confederacy did and fought to preserve slavery. Again, most of those statues were erected to intimidate African-Americans and to let them know who was still in charge. They were placed to defy Civil Rights.

A documentary from HBO’s Vice News Tonight titled “Charlottesville: Race and Terror,” follows Christopher Cantwell, an unabashed white supremacist who spews racist invective while traveling around with a band of neo-Nazis. In the footage, Cantwell says there will be more rallies and protests and states, “We’re not non-violent, we’ll fucking kill these people if we have to.” About Heather Heyer’s death, he said “I’d say it was worth it. The fact that nobody on our side died, I’d go ahead and call that points for us.” He also says he expects more people to die in the future.

Why do Cantwell and his fellow racists feel so confident? Why do they feel so good about it? Because of Donald Trump. David Duke thanked Trump for his support on Tuesday. They got the message and they’re interpreting it as “make America great again.”

That’s what they’re doing to because they brought it to Charlottesville. A beautiful and wonderful place, Charlottesville is not home to this mess. Charlottesville should be known for UVA, The Center for Politics, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and The Dave Matthews Band. It’s not home to Nazis.

A lot of people accuse Republicans of being racist. George W. Bush and Mitt Romney were hit with that accusation. They may not have cared that much about minorities, but they were not racists. Most Republicans are not either. But, a lot of Republicans don’t find racism a deal breaker as they voted for Donald Trump.

Donald Trump is a racist, and those who continue to support him, or deflect and throw cover for Nazis (“but Obama and statues”) are too. Republicans like Jeff Flake and Marco Rubio lambasted him yesterday. More Republicans need to realize this is not a partisan issue. You can be a Republican and find the thought of lying with Nazis disgusting. Donald Trump does not.

Donald Trump showed us who he is and we need to believe him. It’s time for you to show us who you are. When your friends, family, and neighbors defend Trump they’re showing you who they are.

You better believe them.

Diverse Viewpoints

cjones08182017

Last week, an engineer at Google circulated an internal memo suggesting that biological factors were part of the cause for the gender gap in the tech industry and that the company should stop alienating conservatives. It landed about as well as that Jerry Maguire memo suggesting the sports agency should practice ethics. Just like Jerry, the sexist Google dude was Googling for a new job.

A lot of conservatives rushed to defend the guy and bash Google for firing him. That’s what horrible people do. They defend other horrible people. They accuse Google of not tolerating diverse opinions. This isn’t an argument over whether ketchup should be squirted on hot dogs or not (though those savages should hit the streets too). A company that’s known for innovation and building toward the future doesn’t want to discourage future talent from coming on board because they may be perceived as sexist. And trust me on this: You want to hire women. Every woman I have ever met is smarter than I am….except for women who voted for Donald Trump.

Believing woman are biologically inferior to work for a software company is a view that only those living in caves should possess. What if the guy circulated a memo stating that some races were biologically inferior? At the very least, you don’t want to keep a guy around who’s stupid enough to publish that memo.

Many conservatives are also defending the Nazis who are suddenly finding themselves unemployed after pictures of them marching at the Charlottesville hatefest were published. One guy was actually fired from a hot dog place. Nobody wants a Nazi handling their wiener. Just like the Google dude whined that he really wasn’t sexist, some Nazis swore they weren’t really Nazis. They just really hate blacks, Jews, gays, liberals, and they enjoy driving out of state to goosestep in khakis while holding a Tiki torch.

Nobody wants to be associated with Nazis. The Tiki torch company issued a statement distancing themselves from Nazis. I expect companies that produce polo shirts and khakis to come out next. They issued stronger condemnations of Nazis than the president.

Horrible people continued to defend horrible people and cried about diversity in the workplace. Well, I’m sure those conservatives wouldn’t mind having a conversation at the water cooler with a Nazi. It’s done daily in the White House. But, most normal people don’t want to hang around Nazis.

You don’t have to go so far with the right-wing crap to be a Nazi for me not to want to hang around with you. If your first statement, comment, post on social media about Charlottesville was mentioning Obama, Antifa, liberals, or any other cover to protect your Nazi pals, I don’t want to associate with you. Basically, you suck at life and you’re an asshole.

You’re probably the type of asshole to scream about diversity in the workplace when Nazis and sexists are fired but want Colin Kaepernick banned from the NFL because he refuses to stand for the National Anthem.

Kaepernick is a good football player who can’t find a job in the NFL because of his stance against standing during a song. His refusal to conform to nationalism has rubbed many the wrong way and cowardly team owners are afraid of a negative backlash if they sign him. Beating up a woman will get you suspended for six games, but silently protesting police brutality against black Americans will not be tolerated. How dare he have a social conscience.

In case you haven’t noticed, what happened in Charlottesville displayed a lot of reasons not to stand for the National Anthem. If you have a problem with people who don’t want to conform to your nationalism, then I suggest that you sit down and shut the hell up.

Personal note about yesterday’s cartoon: I didn’t write a blog for yesterday’s cartoon because I didn’t want to distract from it. I wanted that cartoon to speak for itself, and all by itself.

I had a couple of other ideas yesterday but I wasn’t in love with them. Shortly after midnight on Monday morning that idea hit me, which is how all ideas hit me. It’s like someone shows up and I’m seeing who they are. At first, I didn’t realize I wanted to draw it until the full image came into my head. It started with the bumper sticker, which I thought was just OK. Then, the scene kinda zoomed out in my head and I was like “oooh. I gotta draw that.”

I thought it might be one of those with the potential to receive the most hits to the website, most shares, likes, comments…but it didn’t work out that way. I’m not complaining. It just goes to show that I can’t predict how well my cartoons will be received.

But, a lot of individuals really appreciated the cartoon. On top of the shares, likes, comments, clicks on the site, there were a few donations. So whether you donated $1.00 or more, thank you so much for helping me continue to do this. I’ll be sending out a couple more prints this week. If you have not received an email from me yet, you will. I loves ya’.

Decorum Required

cjones11162016

Do you know why people are protesting and are upset over the election of Donald Trump? It’s not just because a narcissistic man who’s notable for being ignorant is walking into the Oval Office. It’s because they’re goose stepping into the Oval Office. Another big juicy reason that a lot of Americans are still traumatized after discovering just how comfortable a little less than half of white America is with racism. Dave Chappelle had a point. But protest, they must. It’d be a lot nicer if a lot of them had also voted.

A lot of people were very silent in Germany during the early 1930s when they allowed a fascist to assume their highest office. We learned what happens from that. Silence will not be allowed now but again, you should have voted. I know a lot of you wanted Bernie but now you have Racist In Chief. Good job.

Trump and others say we should give him a chance and within the first week he appoints an alt-right white nationalist as his chief strategist. Chance is up. It got the heil out of here. David Duke is doing cartwheels which he should be given mad props for as that’s really difficult to execute while wearing a sheet.

A lot of people defend themselves as not being racist while they support racist messages. If you continue to listen to 90s pop band Ace Of Base after discovering they’re a bunch of Swedish Nazis you can be excused because “The Sign” is kinda catchy, though you might want to ask yourself “what kind of sign are they singing about with such lovely harmonies?”. If you make an alt-right, misogynist, anti-Semitic, white nationalist the second most powerful person in the White House, then you might be a racist. You might also want to take a closer look at yourself if you voted for this crap.

Steve Bannon took a leave from Breitbart to manage the Trump campaign. While running Breitbart the publication ran such headlines as “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy,” and “Bill Kriston: Republican Spoiler, Renegade Jew,” and “Lesbian Bridezillas Bully Bridal Shop Owner Over Religious Beliefs.” Even some conservatives formerly associated with Breitbart refer to it as a “hate site steeped in misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, white nationalism and anti-Semitism.” Even Glenn Beck finds Steve Bannon scary.

Bannon is quoted as saying “What we need to do is bitch-slap the Republican Party,” and “Fear is a good thing. Fear is going to lead you to take action.”

Fear is definitely the strategy the future White House chief strategist used in the campaign. He will surely continue to use that as his strategy from the Executive office. In case you didn’t see Star Wars you need to take note of Yoda’s warning: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. You do remember what happened to the republic in Star Wars? Democracy fell, the Senate was disbanded, Samuel L. Jackson got his hand chopped off, soldiers became lousy shots, Liam Neeson’s “particular set of skills” were useless, a heavy mouth breather was in charge of the military, Obi Wan Kenobi aged 40 years in a span of 20, and Luke kissed his sister. Plus, it took the empire 20 years to build their wall, which was the Death Star which got blown up a week after it’s completion, and I bet Darth Sidious claimed he was great at building things too. I don’t want this to happen to America.

Quite frankly Yoda is the only sentient being from a swamp I’d like to see as a part of this administration.

Creative note: I took creative license with the armband in the cartoon. I was sure it was on the right arm for some reason. Probably because the arm is “right.” I planned the layout for the cartoon with that. While drawing the cartoon I had to Google some images of Nazi uniforms (always fun) and discovered it was on the left. Now Nazis have another reason to hate me.

Today’s blog included Nazis, Star Wars, and Ace Of Base references. If you weren’t aware of the Ace Of Base Nazi thing until now, sorry to bring that to your attention. You already lost Chachi. Kinda ruins everything doesn’t it? You still have Yoda.

Nazis Got The Blues

cjones06272016

I hate Illinois Nazis.

I had the Peter Gunn Theme in my head the entire time I was drawing this, despite watching The Big Lebowski at the same time. Maybe I should have been watching another movie but none come to mind.

A bunch of neo-Nazi shite nationalists held a rally in Sacramento and they were lovingly greeted by a group of counter protesters. Within 20 minutes at least seven people had been stabbed, nine were hospitalized and many more suffered bruises, scrapes and cuts. Liberals and Nazis can’t get along in a free exchange of ideas. Who could have seen that coming?

The Traditionalist Worker Party, who the Southern Poverty Law Center identifies as a hate group, advocates for a white nationalist homeland. They did have a permit for the rally.

While a lot of conservatives along with Donald Trump openly encourages violence, liberals usually give the impression they’re pacifist. Not always. One of the groups confronting the hate group is called “By Any Means Necessary.” I’ve seen a lot of posts on social media lately where liberals “jokingly” wish death and violence upon conservatives. If it wasn’t so lame I’d click the frowny face button. Hell, I read words from Bernie Sanders’ supporters wishing very nasty things to happen to Hillary Clinton.

It amazes me that people don’t realize that violence, or even condoning violence, doesn’t help their argument. It never helps. They always find a way to justify it, usually with the weak excuse that their target is a special case and deserves it.

No. What people with bad and horrible agendas deserve is to have their ideas rejected and live a full and healthy life full of grumpiness and hatred while they watch the world progress around them. In your face, haters!

While Jake and Elwood might want to chase Nazis into the Calumet river with a souped-up 1974 Dodge Monaco with a “440 Magnum” engine with an inoperable cigarette lighter that was previously a Mount Pleasant police car that Elwood purchased at an auction after trading the previous Cadillac Bluesmobile for a microphone, I doubt they’d actually want to physically hurt anyone.

Even Illinois Nazis. They really hated Illinois Nazis.
